Sword question mates - I see many great examples of fine period swords all around. One of the goals I have is to get into reinacting - in particular >> swordplay. I would think a blunted blade for safety would wanted for that. I have not seen anything specifically intended for that. Are the swords I see blunt to begin with? If anyone has words of wisdom and/or experience to share - please do so. Willie the rumrunner if it burns blue, drink it

Ok since I have been on crutches I cannot use a traditional purse. my mother bought this book bag for me and I wanted to hand paint a Jolly Roger But found a bandanna with a skull and crossbones on it. Decided to just try it out and see how it would come out. Now mind you it's only my first one...But Im proud of it. The next one will be handpainted. This one was modified as well. I added the red trim and all the beads. Im going to add more as well.

Alright, its drawling close to me first official renfaire (dressed up an' all) and i still am in need of a weapon. preferably something just for show, doesnt need to fire, nor does it need to be sharp. anybody selling one for cheap? i have a VERY limited budget, and two younger brothers who like to play with things, so there is no need at this moment for authenticity or finery. thanks.

I just had the most wonderful buying experience EVER. The situation was an extreme rush order for a bride who is leaving for Russi in just a couple of weeks. I worked with Judy from http://www.anjooriansilks.com and she was AMAZING. She was unbelievably attentive, went above and beyond the call of duty: overnighted silk velvet fabrics to her studio, custom dyed them this morning and had them in the mail to me by this afternoon. She called to double check on my color selection, just to make sure I understood what color I had chosen, called to explain shipping fees and offered several options - she always kept in touch with me about the status of the order. I just…

So how do you make a mermaid tail? I'm trying to do a decent-looking fantasy film (meaning one that I can actually send to Sundance and places like that), but I have to costume a mermaid and I also have a group of pyrates to worry about (especially their boots and swords!). Any advice?

I'd like a nice frock, the sort with great big cuffs and some good swish in back. I'd also like it to fit half decently. Sure, I know plundered coat would always fit the wearer very well, but I don't care. I've lots of nice things for men on the web, my favorite being Audrey Carol's. But, other than getting it in different sizes, WYSIWYG. I've get a bad feeling that making one is may be the only course. My entire sewing expirience consists of a chemise and two skirts of questionable quality for Renn faire and the idea of a well-tailored coat is a bit daunting. Should I even attempt this with minimal skills?

Well, I've been threatening to do this for a bit, and finally got the cash together. This Cannon isn't huge, but it is full scale, with a 44mm bore: And here's a video of it being fired: Cannon Firing I am thouroughly impressed with this piece so far. :)

Well here it is, a hat blank turned into a work of art. I trimmed the edges of the brim because they weren't even. I actually sewed the large trim around the brim, but the rest I had to use Fabric-tac. I'm using 4 good size hat pins to hold the brim in place. I took them out to put the feathers on, and the brim held the shape pretty well while I was working on it. The fancy pins all came from my recent trip to Las Vegas, guady, but great. Hat

When I was in Brighton (UK), I stumbled upon the most unbelievable store. None of their stuff is cheap, but it is well worth seeing. The Lanes Armoury in Brighton, England It has to be the most awesome repository of ancient weapons ever! Swords! Katanas! Original antique Samurai armor! Thompson submachine gun!! Flintlocks of every desired model... Ancient Chinese repeating crossbow (Dear Santa...). And blunderbusses! Originals! These were not repros, and every stinkin' thing was for sale! ... But they were not cheap. If you have the cash, you must check them out. Sadly, their website (I only surfed it for a few minutes) does not seem to hint at the sheer volume …

In a post on the Rabble Rousing board, I posted about a GLBT pirate themed camping event that I'm in the process of putting together. I was at the campground where the event is to be held this past weekend, and tested some of the events I'm going to be doing. One of the events is similar to a King of the Hill competition, but instead of taking place on a hill, it was to involve a person, in garb, swimming to a platform and trying to knock the other person off of the platform using a boffer sword. I attempted this wearing a pair of wrap pants that I bought at the House of Dra, and found that it absorbed a lot of water and became very heavy to swim in. Because this would p…

I was looking for stuff for my pirate room (in my house) on eBay when I came across this. What would you do with it? I could dangle her in front of the raptor in my backyard...hang a sign around her neck that says "Bait".
