I want to build two wooden chests that at least wouldn't stand out in the GAOP. My youngest daughter will start working with hand tools at preschool next week (they had them practicing before the holiday break), and I thought it would be a fun project for the girls and me. Anyhow, one of them I want to contain and disguise an igloo cooler. The other I would like for storing and transporting some of my period-styled clothing. I am EXTREMELY limited on funds here, so although I'd like a nice period look, I can't spend a lot of money on hardware. I am, however, willing to spend time and effort. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Here is an idea. Lets do a weekly online class to make a hand sewn 18th Century shirt. Fall is here and its getting darker and colder outside so this is something we can do to prepare for next spring/summer's event season. (I am sure Hurricane and all the other Florida and West Coast folks are laughing at us now but they are welcome to join in as well!) Here is how it works. Get some fabric and sewing supplies, and we will come up with a weekly "lesson" that breaks down the shirtmaking into little pieces so that by the end of the 8 weeks (I am guessing at a time frame) all the participants should have a completed hand sewn authentic Early 18th Century "pirate" shirt…

ok, when logging onto the site saw a interesting advertisement. So, I went an took a looks and found several nice items I am thinking of adding to me garb. HOWEVER, I have never done business with these folks and was wondering if any of you have in the past. If so, are the goods of good quality? Did you get them in a reasonable amount of time? If you needed to send something back did you have any problems with them accepting a return? Thanks for any and all guidance.

Where am I supposed to find one of these? it has to be blunt, because theres a pretty good chance my brothers will want to play with it, and my parents would prefer the little buggers keep all their limbs. and it is preferred that it is cheap. i am a pathetic pirate...

Well, I wanted a really big tricorn, so I bought one of the JAS-Townsend fur felt blanks with extra large brims and had at it. Here's how I went about it... 1) Cut the 'scalloped' edges off of the brim 2) Steamed the brim so I could bend it just enough to tack it in place with thread without creasing the brim. This is some heavy duty felt. 3) Steamed some more to get the basic shape I wanted. 4) Waterproofed each side (letting dry in between) with thinned shellac. This results in all kinds of neat wavy compound curves when the shellac cures. 5) Steamed and shaped again to get rid of some of the curing curves I didn't want and to accentuate some that I did. 6) Ha…

I've had this CafePress store for some time now, so I'd thought I'd share it here since they just now started selling BLACK shirts, which is of course a pirate's favorite color. I plan to add a few more things soon, so keep an eye out for them... Deadbishop's Modern Pirate Garb and Booty!

This group buy thing might work out nicely. I am talking to Dixie to see if they will offer a Group Discount. Normally these things are $225 + shipping and other sites sell them from $275-$350. http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info....roducts_id=9272 If we could get them for $200 + shipping, who would be interested? I've just about exhausted my sources looking for a headcovering that would be appropriate for late 1600's to mid 1700's. Something large and in period colour. I've been to standard piratical sites but all they have are the black ones with skulls. I've been to various longhunter, and rev war gear sites and have come up empty. Any help is geatly appreciated.

I want to openly thank Harbor Master for sending me a whole bunch of Macaw feathers. They were the kind I really needed. And those long tail feathers are fantastic! So a big Thank You from me! Incase some of you may be wondering or have forgotten, I make incredible hat pins, hair barretts, and favours out of bird feathers. So as a reminder, if you have parrots, parakeets, lovebirds, or any other type of bird that sheds colorful feathers, save them for me and I will make you a free hat pin in exchange. I do have pictures of some of the stock I currently have for sale, if anyone is interested in purchasing some. However some of what is in the pictures has been sold. No…

So, over the summer I picked up the Simplicity Sparrow-ish coat pattern, and for a little while I had considered making it for faire wear/part of my gear. But my sense of historical accuracy could not allow me to do so. But as it was starting to get colder a few weeks back I remembered that I needed a new winter coat . . . all this to say . . . I now need buttons for my black wool frock coat. Anyone know of a place I can get 28 silver/pewter, old-ish/piraty looking buttons. The local Joann's has some really cool ones but they don't have that many in stock and would have to order them from the company and charge me extra to do it . . . errr, no thanks . . . ideas anyone?
