Received a "Dutch Cutlass" from Loyalist a few weeks ago, but am going to upgrade to the Windlass version. The sword is brand new, unsharpened, still has some cosmoline on it, and includes a slab sided scabbard- Overall it's a decently made piece, great for reenactments. Am selling it for $100 (paid near $135), which includes S&H to US and APO only addresses only (18 years of age and older). I prefer a U.S. Postal Service money order. Contact me at flpyrate@yahoo.com Yours, Mike

Here are a couple of pics of what I've been working on for the past few days. Using Reconstucting History's pattern #706. They are 100% linen. Mighty comfortable, very cool to the skin. These I made before the others. 98% wool/ 2% lycra. They were a pair of drawstring pants I wore for last year at PiP. I'm really happy with the way came out!

Huzzah! After hours of toiling and working my fingers to the bone, I have finished my first effort at "pirate garb" . . . I think about halfway through the gathering of materials I decided I wanted to attempt something halfway "period" (what period that is, I'm still not quite sure but we're gonna go with 'mid 1700s'). Therefore, from bottom to top: Shoes: Started life as a pair of faux suede hiking boots. Found the idea somewhere on this forum, actually. Stockings: are plain old white cotton/lycra knee socks from Target. Next time I get some money, wool stockings are on the list. "Slops" are not quite slops and not quite breeches. The top (which you, of cour…

I am curious as to where to find authentic patterns since I need to update my stock of patterns and I am finding some locations but they have questionable historical accuracy. Any help is appreciated?

***SHOE BUCKLES AVAILABLE NOW!*** Take a look (also at my Footware Site) These were made up from an original in my collection. This style would be good throughout the GAoP, and will take 3/4th inch (or 19mm) latch. They are currently "IN STOCK" I got hit up for some heavy shipping/import/customs charges (I am in Germany) that were unforeseen, so I have had to raise my price a bit. Brass Buckles $30 Silver Buckles $35 Set of each $60 If interested, please send me a PM or E-mail. Greg aka GoF

Following up on Island Cutter's offering of his small sailboat, I took interest and paid him a visit. I am taking a deeper interest in building a small wooden vessel, that is trailerable and would like to request his help at some point. I am narrowing the plans down to one of two boats. I am fond of Herreshoff designs, probably because in their heyday (late 1800's) built were built in my hometown and plied the waters I learned to sail in. I am looking at primarily to make a dual gaff-rigged catboat, thus the "cat" name. This style of rigging is a bit more ancient than the present cutter-rig style of sail. This will most likely be, believe it or not, plywood …

Well I searched in hopes that there was already a thread but all I can find is boots vs. shoe debate. I don't need that. I've got a custom costume that I'm working on for some friends. Very Hollywood pirate look but high quality materials etc. They are looking for boots and want some recommendations. I naturally said I'd ask those that know (since I'm more in the know about shoes). So, those that know about these boot things... Where are the good places to find good quality Men's pirate styled boots? I'd like a range of prices but obviously since the total costume is costing in the high hundreds, some higher line boots aren't completely out of the question. Thanks i…

THE CHINCOTEAGUE CACHE - The year 1750. A letter from London, England. "To My Brother, George Wilson, There are three creeks lying 100 paces or more north of the second inlet above Chincoteague Island, Virginia, which is at the southward end of the peninsula. At the head of the third creek to the northward is a bluff facing the Atlantic Ocean with three cedar trees growing on it, each about 1.5 yards apart. Between the trees I buried ten iron bound chests, bars of silver, gold, diamonds and jewels to the sum of 200,000 pounds sterling. Go to the woody knoll secretly and remove the treasure." This letter resides in the British Naval Records Offic…

Ahoy again! I saw the threads on garb and thought well if your getting ready for an encampment what can you do to make your camp more accurate for a seaman ashore and some of the helpful things I have found to help distinguish your camp as more than just a normal ren or re-enactment army type setup. Now this might not be useful for PiP but I figured that this is stuff I have learned from others and research it is always good to share the info one has learned. Plus maybe others have stuff they can add and I can learn more. My field of expertise is historical fashion and theatrical costume, but after spending time setting up camp and learning how and what we need I fig…

I was just at Michael's craft store the other day, and they had tons of really fun, kewl pyrate stuff in the Halloween section. Skulls with pirate hats or eye patches, hanging skeletons you could make ratty clothes for, groups of figures, including one of a sinking ship with just the bow showing above water, while the crew hang from the rigging, or float in the water around it - including shark fins circling. There are small groups of figures with treasure chests, or reading a treasure map. If you like fun stickers, they have tons of those in the regular sticker section, but look for pirate things in almost every place in the store. Yeah, some of the stuff is too kiddy…

Greetings All, I have been in the long and drawn out process of developing a little "ship" for those who would like to get into some actual sailing without spending a King's Ransom. What I am working on is a small (15’) sailing vessel that has room for two and the general styling of a Sloop of the Golden Age. This is NOT a replica. This is a small boat in which to play pirate with some sense of historical styling. I will be offering Finished Vessels, Kits of varying degrees of inclusion (size & weight shipping considerations vs exclusion of parts readily available to you at a local building supply store), and even the distinct possibility of boat building courses. …

The India made guns are a real boon for Pyrate reenactors. A few years ago, I was looking at a Paddlebutt musket in the white, but it cost about $900. The guns from India arn't as nice as a custom gun, but they are affordable, and with a little work turn out ok. One of the problems with them, is that they all look the same... for military reenactors that OK, but for Pyrates, we want our guns to have some varreation. (they wern't suppose to all be made at the same place...) Refinishing the stock is the easist option.... I receantly bought a steel barreled blunderbuss from Callenish Gunner, and just had to modify it..... I took off the original finish, and re-finishe…

Ok so carousing craigslist I found a captains desk. It is selling for $125.00. My question is I know we have many carpenters here..has anyone ever made one? This was the descrip with the posting.... Beautiful slope writing desk that could have been portable or formally attached to base cabinet used/kept by captains of ships in their quarters. Would be attached to a chest of drawers or some form of a cabinet/cupboard. Primitive, but with carved out niche for writing utensils. Hinges still in perfect condition. So Id love to see what our fellow carpenters could create...Maybe raffle it off at PiP????
