Now I know this insn't really piratey, but I need some help with some garb for my wedding. I'm looking to go something very similar to Johnny Depp ala Sleepy Hollow. I'm not very knowledgeable in anything to do with garb. Any help I can get in tracking down people that make this stuff or where to get it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks !!

It's possible this should go in Twill, but I'm going to be leading up to buying something, so I figured I should put it here. When making a decision about period shoes and going with tied or buckled, where is the more common breakover point regarding dates...? In other words, when did buckles become more common than ties on shoes? Also, are there any online resources about just how shoes would have been tied? I couldn't find a specific thread covering this exact point, but easily could have missed it. And now, to the Plunder-correct part of the post, would any of the more... um... affordable shoes (such as those from Jas Townsend or Fugawee) be appropriate for tyin…

I have to fund some other projects, so something must go... On offer is a completed Handmortar Kit from The RIfle Shoppe This is the one for sale! (photo by our own Black John) This is a high quality kit from the folks at the Rifle Shoppe, its not imported from India! Handmortars have been around since at least the 17th century in various lengths, calibers, and lock mechanisms. The Rifle Shoppes model resembles those found in the Early 18th century and can be seen in various museums (West Point and Morges come to mind) The idea was to be able to launch a grenade farther than you could throw one. For more General Info on Handmortars, see http://www.gentlemenoffort…

I don't have any pictures yet, but I finally broke down and made new latchetts for my Fugawee shoes that fit Gregs buckles. I used a pair of my old biker boots and cut from the uppers as the leather was identical to what the shoes are made of. I messed around til I got the "feel" of things and made the buckles slightly off-center (which goes with my character! ). They actually feel good and I got the buckles in the right place so they do not rub on the bridges of my feet! I'll get photos when I can, but anyone who has the Fugawee shoes that wants to modify them, it can be done and cheaper then other options. Bo

Me calves be too stout fer garters sold by sutlers an' their ilk, so I had me the idea of usin' leather dog collars to keep me stockings in place. Besides the diff'rence in buckles, be there any diff'rence 'tween garters an' collars?

I'm new to the whole pirate reenactment concept. I stumbled upon it whilst searching for a tricorn/cocked hat to wear on a daily basis. The Gentlemen of Fortune site recommended a few hatters/milliners, and also linked to this site. So, here I am, consumed by curiosity. In the several hours of browsing and reading about clothing in the GAoP, I don't recall once coming across even the briefest mention of anything similar to a bandanna. I was curious as to the historical accuracy of bandannas, and, if they were used during the GAoP, how they differed from contemporary versions. I'd greatly appreciate efforts to satiate my curiosity with your knowledge.

I recently picked up one of the doglock blunderbusses from Middlesex and absolutely love it. I will post in-action shots of it here sometime soon. What I'm wondering is if anyone has a good reccomendation on slinging it. I don't want to attach hardware to it directly and I certainly dont want any sort of holster. I'm looking for a method that would be both period and practical. To give a scenario for use think in terms of a large weapon kept close at hand but I'm wanting both hands free as I unload smuggled goods from a jollyboat on the beach. Any suggestions?

Is this design historical or just "fashionable"? We all have pet peeves in life and this is by far my biggest. I think I hate them more then I do the Spanish (if that were possible). So before I go on a huge rant to pirates with these styles I would like to get some info about them. Can a pirate actually have anything that is white? At some point it would just be yellow and stained so why actually wear white to just have it change to a pee color? Yaaaar!

Does anyone remember the action figures released right around 1974 known as the Fighting Furies? Captain Hook and Captain Pegleg, a pair of gentlemen of fortune who could hurl knives and swing a cutlass! They had various costumes/ adventure kits that you could buy for them. These toys had real class, cloth garb and distinct appearance (Hook was Asian and Pegleg a swarthy skinned fellow!) I got them both for Christmas 1974 and sold them in High School (like a fool) at a yard sale. Pleasant memories that these action figures were "the" toy for me that Christmas long ago.
