If you'd like to host MP3 files on pyracy.com for folks to enjoy, I can set up a section for that at pyracy.com/music - email vox@pyracy.com to arrange. I can also post links to your files if you already have them hosted elsewhere. You can upload files into this forum, SEA SHANTIES - after you do so I'll eventually move them to pyracy.com/music and place a link from your post.

BBC 2 had a 'songs inspired by the sea' program the other day. Not all to my taste, and nothing piratical, but there's some good ones in there. 'all things are quite silent' and 'The wild goose' were my favourites, but they might be too floaty for you butch piratical people. Anyway, use the listen again feature here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/folk/harding/ And tell me what you think. You can also get a playlist up once you're on the radio player page.

Dont be taking me for a bible thumper, but I ran across this and thought I's share something for a change. the mariner's 23rd psalm The Lord is my pilot, I shall not go adrift. He lighteth my passage across dark channels He steereth me thru deep waters. He keepeth my log. He guideth me by the evening star for my safety's sake. Yes, though I sail amid the thunders and tempest of life, I fear no peril for thou art with me. thy stars and heavens , they comfort me. the vastness of the sea upholds me. surely fair winds and safe harbors shall be found all the days of me life, and I shall dock secure forever. Amen

I'm a big fan of the Monkey Island series and couldn't get the Scumm Bar theme out of my head the other day, so what did I do? I searched for a place to download it! Here is what I found. I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but you can download all the music from the Monkey Island series of games (legally) from this here site: http://www.scummbar.com/ Just go to Downloads on the left side and enjoy!

I am trying to find either remixed classic shanties or original recordings that have a more "techno/tribal/dance/trance" feel... anybody got any suggestions?

Funny thing I wondered today.... What musical instruments would you see aboard a ship? I can't think of any besides possibly a piccolo or a tin whistle.

Who was executed at Execution Dock on Wednesday, the 25th of November, 1696, being of Every’s crew; together with their Free Confession of their most Horrid Crimes. Well may the world against us cry; for these our deeds most base, For which alas! We now must die, death looks us in the face, Which is no more than what’s our due, since we so wicked were, As here shall be declar’d to you. Let pirates then take care. We with our comrades, not yet ta’en, together did agree, And stole a ship out of the Groyne, to roam upon the sea; With which we robb’d and plundered too, no ship that we did spare. Thus many a one we did undo. Let pirates then take care. Our ship being …

Avast, me hearties! The college Pops orchestra that I captain is planning to present a program of pirate music this November (if you'll be in the Boston area and want concert details, let me know). Our student composer intends to orchestra a short film or a clip from a longer movie, but we haven't yet found a good selection. We're looking for approximately ten minutes of silent film, of or relating to pirates. We've looked at the 1924 Peter Pan and the silent Black Pirate, but haven't yet found anything we want to work with. Are there other silent pirate movies or shorts that you know of? Cartoons, silent or talkie, are also a possibility. We also currently have br…

Stan Rogers is a great Canadian Maritime singer. His songs are almost exclusively about the sea and include traditional stuff as well. He also wrote the famous pirate related song, Barrett's privateers. Although Stan died in 1990, he's still worth giving a listen to.

Some of you may remember me. I've been trying to get as much information together about pirate music as I can so I can do justice to this music score. I have a question about instrumentation. I need to know either what kind of instruments the pirates played their sea shanties on or what kind of instruments just scream PIRATES! right now I'm taking a sea shantie and want to orchestrate it for small ensemble but I need to know what instruments I should assign to everyone. Either information would be helpful. Or if you have any advice I'd love that too! ~Drew
