The Mermaid of the Mists The sea was dark and cold on a mitsy moonlit night. The spray of the sea and a steady breeze were the only comforts of life. Often it's a lonely time when we sailors put out to sea, Thats when I smile and remember the time the Mermaid enchanted me... The evening was dark and melancholy, much as it is this night... The cold sea air and the mists were there, bathed in the soft moonlight. We were anchored off Caracas I think, waitin' to re-supply... When a swell of the ocean crested, and a Goddess caught my eye. She was small of stature, with flowing golden hair... Eyes of green that called to me with their enchanting stare. She started si…

Aye mateys m'cabin boy and I staged one of the most epic battles fer treasure that pirate toys have seen in a century!! Twas the pirates of the Imaginext set and their grand ship, takin on the SS. Rubber Duckie pirated by none other than Ernie and Elmo. Both ships championin a fine trunk o' treasure to be plundered by the winner. Ernie and Elmo gave a great challenge and almost had the Imaginext crew out run (hidin behind the Imaginext battle castle and its cannons) But arrrrr, the Imaginext crew of mateys prevailed, firin at will, causin the SS. Rubber Duckie to take a dive deep into the waters below, not before takin Ernie and Elmo aboard, and their mighty treasure t…

Under the title Movies to Put You in the Mood, the February 2005 Reader's Digest lists some movies to "spark romance" for VD (Valentine's Day...what were you thinking?). Their three suggestionsf movies to share on VD? To Have and Have Not, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and (naturally) Pirates of the Caribbean! As they said, "Men love the action; women love Johnny Depp." So there you have your VD suggestion, Reader's Digest style.

I just love the Goonies, my kids love the Goonies, and now my kids friends love the Goonies.. ok, so they've got a little cussin' but I just tells 'em that just cause they hear it doesn't mean they can say it! We watched it again tonight, and they all sat through it without fidgiting or needing to pause it or anything... they were glued. And then after, it was "Aw, that was a GOOD movie! I want to have adventures like that...!" ME TOO!

Statues pilfered as prank By Irene Hsiao, Tribune Police are asking the people who took two Captain Morgan rum pirate statues to come forward. If it was a prank, there will be no charges, said Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark. But if it was a theft, there may be charges, he said. Police believe whoever took the statues Sunday from the Birds Nest at the FBR Open at the Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale know the people at Alliance Beverage Distributing Co. of Phoenix, which dispenses the beverage in the Valley. "Sometimes a hoax is the right thing to do or it’s funny, but the victim of the hoax thinks it’s a crime and the police get involved," Clark said. "We …

Yup - I broke down and got meself a couple o' dollies. :) One stands at my office monitor with his oh-so-serious 'the boss is watching' face on, while the other guards my computer at home, grinning like a monkey. They each have their own pistol, sword, and compass, hat and rum bottle - but still...something was missing... So, I rummaged through a sack of leather scraps, got out the scissors and needles and gut, and made each of 'em their very own 'booty bag'! Then I dug into the bottom of my jewerly box, found a few broken chains and loose rhinestones and tiny fake pearls, and filled the bags up with the goodies. I was fortunate enough to find a few cheapie nec…

Passing a desk I say this book "A History of Singapore, 1819-1975" curious I preused it. Although it's about modern Saingapoer which was established on Jan. 30, 1819 (well after Capt. Jack's time) it does spend a little time on Singapore's pre-history. Apparantly in the 14th century it was a pirate haven! Back then it was called Temask. An eyewitness was a Chinese trader Wang Ta-yuan saying it was a dread place for traders. "Of the inhabitants he said 'everything the inhabitants posses is a product of their plundering of Chinese junks'. Also about Temesk "Arab writers in thethirteenth century had spoken of the neighboring islands 'from which armed black pirates wi…

I was asked the other day about Barbossa's first name. For the life of me I never remembered hearing one so.... I called the writers office and, according to Terry: "The name Barbossa was a nickname that the Pirate gave to himself, having forgotten his own real name, very long ago. " So, whoever wrote and asked me that.... there it is. OFFICIALLY he has no first name.

I guarentee when you've finish reading it, you'll be glad your a pyrate, and not a whaler. How about you, read any good books lately?

PLUNDER! What better name for a Pyrate Game? I went to a con this last week and ran into my old friend Kevin from Laughing Pan. I didn't even know he was working on a pyrate game. Sheesh. It is a very slick setup with a very compact game box. It is stylish, inventive and it comes with some very slick cards, maps and play pieces. I highly recommend it.

As lame as it may seem, the fellow that is designing the new action figures for POTC2 cannot for the life of him find any good, clear pictures of Ragetti. (The lad with the wooden eye) No, Disney does not seem to have any. (Why an I not surprised) If any of you have any screen captures or know of a place/site where he might find something that he can use I'm sure he will make it worth your while when the toys are complete. He's already checked the Pintel/Ragetti sites and found nothing he can use. He needs good size, CLEAR pictures of Ragetti's costume. There ye be mates, go and plunder.

I just read something interesting and wanted to share the good news. Please forgive me if I'm repeating something that everyone else already knew. It has been announced that Errol Flynn's "Captain Blood" and "The Sea Hawk" are both going to be released on DVD in mid-April. You should be able to get them individually or in a boxed set with a few of Flynn's other movies.

Title: PIRATES OF PENSACOLA Writer: Keith Thomson Publisher: St. Martin's Press Publication Date: 4/1/04 Amazon link with plot summary/reviews "A swashbuckling parody, Pirates of Pensacola is a fine breezy read, filled with laugh-out-loud scenes and some high seas drama. Who wouldn't crave the pirate lifestyle? You get to rob, cheat, carouse, brawl, drink, chase wenches and then rob some more, carouse some more...what a life!
