Picked up an interesting movie tonight, Perfume. It's an 18th century thriller. It's a bit fantasy and a bit Silence of the Lambs. I enjoyed it. Pogue

http://www.hbo.com/biglove/quiz/quiz.html I'm Barb! You're a Barb! Sensible and loving to a fault, you sometimes don't realize that your high expectaions can feel like judgement to some people. But you're willing to handle any situation, you're sensitive to other people's feelings and your decisions are respected.

The rules: You post three statements (or longer anecdotes; that can be more fun sometimes) about yourself, two of which are true. People guess which. After folks have been guessing for a while, you reveal it and we see who was right and who was wrong. Then somebody else does one. (And there's no reason not to have several going at once...) Okay, my three... I was in an apple commercial. I buried a body in Mexico. I was in a street riot in Jerusalem.

Thought my mates at the Pub might enjoy this. I am in the process of tracing my genealogy and stumbled across a line of Christians from the Isle of Man. It turns out that a branch of this particular family includes the famed Fletcher Christian. It also "appears" that I could be a direct descendant of William Christian or Illiam Dhone (Brown-haired William) who fought Cromwellian forces on the Isle of Man and was executed for his troubles. I've done quite a lot of research and this seems to be a legitimate line. Thought some of you might get a kick out of this! Broadside

The Mummy is on. I was thinking how cool it would be to have a group that re-enacts 1930s to early WWII adventurers(sp?) like the Mummy or Indiana Jones. I know there are people that collect period military equipment, this would be like the hollywood pirate version of that. Thoughts, anyone? That thought came up followed by which came first, the hollywood pirate re-enactor or the historical pirate re-enactor?

You don't have to look if you don't want to. Lots of pictures of rocks- (you can never have too many rocks-LOL), and other things. Also Blackhearted Pearl, her sister Ruby and Ruby's daughter Dana, plus our friend Bob Duvall who came with us. We had a fantastic time, got a whopping sunburn at the Grand Canyon, spent a ton of money, and have no regrets. My vacation

Ok, so my sister is INCREDIBLY obsessed with Johnny Depp... Goes like: "Oh, he's soooooo hansome!!!" "Look at those cute little eyes!!!!" "Jaaaaaaack take just a good look at him!!!" And suddenly she mentions: "Jack, what do you think about Matt le Blanc? You know, Joey? Doesn't he look like Johnny in, well, his 'younger' years???" At first, I didn't care. But I continue thinking about it. It's really creepy, for a guy my age, thinking about two men so much! xD So, I need opinions: Do Johnny Depp and Matt le Blanc look like each other??? To help ye all: (Johnny) (Matt) Ok, so they're not the best pictures... Did you know finding good close-ups that actually …

I found this poll running on my mail site (of all places) and thought I'd throw it up here, apropos of nothing. Note: I am showing the poll exactly as I found it - pirates was not included. (So I am not including it either - otherwise I know how it'd come out... )

Well here I am just back from Sedona and we go over to Bird Haven here in town to pick up our two birds we had boarded there while gone, Gilligan the Senegal Parrot and Poppy the blue parakeet, and surprise, we bought another bird. I had no intention of getting another bird, believe me. As usual I always go into the 'bird room' to look for feathers that the birds have moulted out. As I passed by this one particular cage, the small parrot just went nutso when he saw me and seriously wanted out of his cage. So I played a little bit with him, didn't even bite my fingers. So I ask the guy who was there if he could take the bird out so I could handle him. Now I was standing …

Any of you watch Rome? I'd psyched because I missed season 2, and it's coming out on dvd next month! Woooo! It's a great show. Great for it's human drama, not so much for its sticking to historical accuracy, but hey, it's tv, so I'm expecting entertainment, not history. As it goes, I believe it still hits pretty close to the history mark. And... it has one of the single most bloody scenes I have ever seen on the small screen! Yow! Good stuff. Neat characters. Believable storyline. Two thumbs up.

Not pirate related but of maritime interest http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19195624/ BOSTON - A 50-ton bowhead whale caught off the Alaskan coast last month had a weapon fragment embedded in its neck that showed it survived a similar hunt — more than a century ago. Embedded deep under its blubber was a 3½-inch arrow-shaped projectile that has given researchers insight into the whale’s age, estimated between 115 and 130 years old. “No other finding has been this precise,” said John Bockstoce, an adjunct curator of the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
