  5. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28641803/ That is the link to MSNBC New's article on the job being offered. It is as stated...they are taking applications until Feb 22nd, with the one hired starting on July 1st. On another site they did say you can take your family with you...as the home is a 3 bedroom. Your airfare is taken care of too. Only thing I am not a good swimmer....HUMMMM, wonder how good I can get by Feb 22nd? Anyhow...the main statement in the above is.... While the advertisement is a stunt, the job is still genuine. Applicants must submit a 60-second video application, and 11 finalists will be flown from their home countries to Hamilton Island in May for the final selection process.

  10. SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months. The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland's state government announced on Tuesday. In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates. The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English. "They'll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they're doing so they can't be too shy and they'll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," said acting state Premier Paul Lucas. "The fact that they will be paid to explore the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, swim, snorkel and generally live the Queensland lifestyle makes this undoubtedly the best job in the world." 13. ok, I am going to hop into this discussion just for a brief moment. There is an individual reaction to things then there is a group reaction...both being contingent upon their beliefs, times, mores and experiences. We cannot really go back into time and analyze the psychology another culture. ...Think of the Romans with arenas how death was viewed, ...as a sport...patricide was a given in order to further ones goals. How the Spartans trained their boys for war...they couldn't be called a man until they successfully killed a slave. Mothers sent their sons off to war with "either victory or on your shield" The Spainish Inquisition...public torture, burnings etc. The French Revolution use of the Gullitine...etc. British public executions ...disembowments, beheadings... drawn and quarterings...etc I could give other examples...All of these were of the societal norm of the times even with their professed belief that killing was wrong. When using hindsite we are judging others by own inert belief and standards. We cannot say what the psychological aspects of a situation was given as we do not have the same norms as they had... Social and psycholical norms ...these continue to evolve as time goes on. Consequently, IMHO, any study is ascrewed because the statician is using his/her belief system as the comparable norm against what he/she views as right or wrong. (speaking of which...when I was in elementary school I always refused to use just he in writing...I always used the "he/she". Because I felt that girls were being left out...ok, hard to explain my childish thinking...but, this was before the so called sexual revolution. I stepped out of the norm but eventually the norm caught up.) ....wonder how someone from Ancient Rome would analyze modern day society. Or how GOAP pirate hunter would view the handling of the Somalian situation. Perhaps they would be scratching their head wondering why we hesitate to just blow them out of the water....displaying their severed head on the ships bow. OK, hope I didn't ramble to much ...as stated ...the above is from my viewpoint and not another...hmmmm the old saying "We are a product of the times" Hopping back to just a reader...
  14. Oh, one more thing there are ways of earning RL $ through SL. via connecting SL companies with RL companies. There are at times when Linden Labs offer contests which are then paid out in RL ...US $. Right now they have a contest going which the winner will receive $10,000.00 US dollars. You had to be a resident for one month in good standing as of Dec 31 in order to participate. But, they do this every so often...so when you decide to become a resident keep an eye on the initiating log in for announcements.
  15. ok, here is a link to Jabberwock Island...pirate of course. http://slurl.com/secondlife/jabberwock/70/...99fd83cc200976a once the window opens click "Teleport Now" that will take you to the tall ship with the welcome to Jabberwock. before disembarking, click onto the various boxes. It will give you a free set of pirate clothes...one box for women the other for men. You can pick up your visitor tag (if you just want to look around and not RP.) You can also get your first cutlass to wear, a weapon sensor so you can start practicing using that cutlass. Your health monitor so you know when to run (LOL) and not end in Davey's Locker. As you walk to the plank you will see an ad for renting a ship. they have some nice ones. but the island has lots available. Just be careful of the plank or you could end up in the water. if in the water teleport back to the ship and take it slow until you get used to disembarking. Once on the island lots to see and explore. I found that my avatar upon entering a dinghy had to learn how to use the oars cause you don't sit there and someone has to row. etc. Oh, once there you can set a new landmark so you teleport right to the island instead of the ship. (ah, fyi this is an area that is more realistic...so it is a no fly zone If'n ya get into trouble your avatar can't just jump and fly away...if'n you need to run you will have to run! LOL) Hope that helps
