International Scurvy Awareness Day May 2nd, 2009 Many a sailor or pirate had to struggle with the symptoms of scurvy. Sad to say, scurvy still exists. The humble goal of LimeStrong is to wipe out what may possibly be the most easily preventable disease in human history, Scurvy. They hope to achieve this by bringing awareness to the fact that Scurvy still exists in the modern world, even though we have had a documented and cost effective cure for almost 400 years. Plus, it’s a great excuse to have some grog (rum punch with lime juice), or margaritas, with yer shipmates in the name of a good cause. Visit the website for some great ideas to promote the awareness of thi…

Hey all, This is more of an "after-action report" than an event announcement... But this past weekend myself and my wife and a handful of others did a demo style event on the reproduction of the Santa Maria here in downtown Columbus Ohio. We had a lot of fun, and got to meet some other local folks that are similar minded so it was a great day all in all. My Photobucket account has a bunch of photos taken throughout the day for those inclined to want to take a peek. There was some talk about the possibility of doing a second "mini-event" of this type later in the summer or perhaps in the autumn, just in case there is anyone in the Columbus area that might be interested (…

At least as far East as you can go in America. Rich in historical pirate and privateer activity, this small, easternmost town in the U.S. is putting on it's 3rd annual Pirate Festival to be held Sept. 5, 6, & 7, 2008. Granted, I'm a little biased.......ok, alot biased. I went to boat school here years ago and it is one of the most ruggedly beautiful, yet isolated areas I've ever seen. So much to see here in terms of coastline, and the trip north is well worth it with tons of maritime history along our rugged coast. Nearby are Quoddy Head, and it's wonderful walk around the tip where whales, and other sea mamals are often spotted. Also, Campobello Island, summer…

Aye lads and lasses! Doth anyone out there know that status of the Sterling Renaissance Faire in Sterling, NY. A bloak came to me place this past weekend and did mention that said Faire, which woth sold to folks with great expectations fer its future, woth sold yet again, and thereby disbanded from existance (in otherwords to someone who bought the land JUST FER THE LAND, AND GOT RID O'THE FAIRE!!) Can thar be anyone who can confirm that, either true or false??

Anne Bonney and Mary Read have been spotted at their old haunts in Black Sound here in Green Turtle Cay. They are here to interrupt the Island Heritage Festival and possibly make off with the jewels and trinkets destined for the children of the island. Heartless lasses... Governor Woodes Rogers is hot on their tails after their escape from their shackles at gun point at the Amy Roberts Elementary School. The Sergeant of the Guard gave noble chase but they made away by carriage. Quite the fun here in Green Turtle Cay. Gots ta love pirating in a place filled with pirates past. -- Hurricane

It's been too long lads. I've not written in so long me inks dried up and I've had to cut a new quill. But now that it's done I thought I might inform ye of a new exhibit coming to the Cincinnati Museum Center. I'm working the exhibit but I'm not exactly sure of the "official" title yet; but it is the exhibit that Barry Clifford attempted to create twice before in Florida. Why we got it, I don't know. But it is supposed to be fabulous and have many artifacts. (In the case you are wondering the history of the ship, it is the Whydah, a once slaver turned pirate ship when Black Sam Bellamy took her as a prize. As Bellamy made his way back to Cape Cod the Whydah became lodged…

Does anyone know what happended at the PyrateCon 2008 Forum? I just registered, tried to post a message, and received a response that "this account has been suspended." I don't get it: is it me, or them? It wouldn't be the first place I've been thrown out of, but you'd think they'd at least have given me the chance to make trouble first! So I'm thinking it must be them, not me. (?) Capt. William
