Capt. Sterling
i'm thinking now that i might actually attempt to venture up for Pirate Invasion weekend again this year. Especially with dropping gas prices :) Gas prices are dropping?!?!? WHERE??? William Blydes
Tell ya what, William! Why don't you come down and leave "the kids" at home! Seriously, I'm sure there's always a place to camp... I agree Kass... I was tempted. The lack of having any leave remaining is the biggest problem. I'll have to plan for next season. William Blydes I don't get lost, I EXPLORE! Bloodrose
It's looking very much like I'll be attending this event with Captain Rhedd. Is there going to be any place where everyone might congregate and meet each other? It's always good to meet other pirates since there aren't many in my immediate area (just me and Rhedd as far as I know). Captain Myfanwy T. crimson corsair
The past few years we have met up at the Whitehart Tavern at around 1:00pm We can all have a cold one and take a few pictures and shoot the breeze. I think someone has mentioned something about meeting at the Privateer living history set-up.... Crimson Who is staying at the Pirate Encampment at the KOA Campground? Cutthroat Kate
Aye, I plan to attend also. However, I have never attended the Maryland Fair. jim hawkins
Sounds like either the tavern at 1:00 or merricks/pirate brethren have a camp site. Stop by and throw something at us.
blackjohn
Since I am technically "working" for Joe while I'm there, I'll be in camp more often than not. Jim, you still have my gloves in your trunk. If your don't arrive in time for the mdrf, we'll have to split them 50/50. Good thing I'm left-handed. Capt. Sterling
I tell ya, I hope this lasts and continues on a downward spiral...sure would be nice... on a trip a few weeks ago, Kentucky was down to 2.32. This past weekend NY was 2.55 and now in VA, Thank God, we're down to 1.99 in some places.... would be nice if next event season could boast the same! Some of the prices have turned an ordinary event of a hundred bucks to 500 or more dollar nightmares.... In October we're going to a period style wedding in Williamsburg, I'm hoping it'll be that cheap or cheaper when I go to fill that 100 gallon RV gas tank. blackjohn
Hope this helps: YES! Quite a bit! Thanks! Our pirate reenactor camp will be (as far as I know) within shouting distance of the front of St George's Chapel. We'll be doing firing demos on the jousting field. Another wedding in Williamsburg, eh? I was actually married in the King's Arms Tavern... we were to get married on the green before the Govenor's Palace but the rain ruined that for us... so we were offered the small foyer in the tavern... the manager was thrilled. He said as far as he knew we were the first to get married there and the meal that followed was superb! Will this wedding tie in with the Yorktown event? I'm thinking of driving over and saying hello to some old friends... not that the dragoon uniform fits any more... I think I now fall into that category of yours called the "more experienced"... blackjohn
Okay, I hope this is right. Jim will correct me if not. Over in the lower left is participant's parking. It's not too far from the elephants. Up a gravel road from the parking is a gate. There are a couple guys there with a list. If your name is on it, they'll let you pass. Follow the path up the hill. You'll be roughly behind the costume rental place. I believe there is a secret entrance near the privies. If you miss it, there's a long walk behind Valley Meade that comes out, I believe, near the New Privy Location. Good luck! Nice! We were married in a "castle." A rich person's home that was donated to the city. If you've ever seen Cry Baby or Twelve Monkeys then you've seen it. WOW! I didn't even think about it being Yorktown time of year. It might be. They both do RevWar. I'd go in my old uniform and wear my officer's kit, but yeah... all those years of experience have taken their toll on me... I mean my uniform... as well.
