Red-Handed Jill Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Getting things squared away after coming back from my sailing adventure. I learned quite a few things: - The basics of helming a 72-foot schooner (I've never helmed a boat that big before, nor have I ever helmed a boat with a wheel - up until then, only with a tiller.) - That I can, if the winds aren't too strong, work a jib, flying jib, stay'sl, forestays'l, fisherman and mains'l by myself when tacking if I really scramble. - Not to get too ambitious with food preparation. At a dock, it's no big deal, but while the boat is heeled over to almost 30 degrees and moving through waves, it becomes a challenge. My herbed potato pancakes with goat cheese and sauteed vegetables were a big success, though. - That one bottle of Drambuie and a large flask of rum is not enough for a four-day sail. - That there's nothing like sailing by the stars in the wee hours. - How to chart a course. - That a good crew makes all the difference in the world.
Cpt Sophia M Eisley Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Freezing (I'm sitting here typing this, and my a/c must be on a little too high). I need to pack for an upcoming trip out west. Time for a celebration is nigh. Perhaps we'll meet again under better circumstances. ---(---(@ Dead Men...Tell No Tales. Welcome, Foolish Mortals...

I came back with a cold, which politely waited until the day after we got home to make itself known. Sore throat, stuffy nose, etc. As for pictures, well, I took about 800, but haven't downloaded them into my computer yet. When I do, I'll post some. Thanks for the welcome back, Jill. Right now both Chain Shot and myself are in slug mode, trying to come back down from cruise fantasy land. Looks like you had quite the grand sailing adventure yourself.
