Real or decorative? Be my pleasure if ye would post here. I am personally looking for a used real flintlock pistol for reenactments. Perhaps if we buy a bunch of stuff they'll cut that price down? I'll email them and see if they do bulk discounts. I wouldn't fire it without it being x-rayed and tested. How much do you want to spend on a collector's piece? Hawkyns Posted February 13, 2004 Share Posted February 13, 2004 Whhoo, that's a tough call. From the pics, it certainly seems old enough to be an original. It has seen some rough use, though. to start with, the trigger guard appears to have been broken and resoldered a bit roughly. The frizzen spring looks a bit rough and there appears to be corrosion on the dog and screw. Now, I'm not trying to rain on anybody's parade, here. This is my opinion, based on a look at a couple of pictures. I would not consider putting powder or ball in this and using it. On the other hand, there is some nice engraving on the brass. the pics of the barrel are not clear enough to see if it is decorated or not. With some work it would probably clean up nicely for a carry piece, assuming that all the screws are sound and the threading in the wood is not stripped. If I were seriously looking at this one, I would want to know if there are any makers marks or dates on the piece. That could affect the price by a whole lot Hawkyns Cannon add dignity to what otherwise would be merely an ugly brawl I do what I do for my own reasons. I do not require anyone to follow me. I do not require society's approval for my actions or beliefs. if I am to be judged, let me be judged in the pure light of history, not the harsh glare of modern trends.
