  1. So, how do ye tell someone what be dressed as a seaman from one dressed as a pyrate? Will they be passin an "Anti-Arrrrrrr Ordinance" in Tampa? Ah, the sweet charm of the inbred.
  2. Ask washington. They'll go inta debt fer anythin ta do with gonnes.
  3. haar, lass, just say the word..... mayhaps Feb. might be better in terms o warnin a new crew. Z
  4. Even if he did get Slightly and Smee confused at the end.....
  5. Pan's return is, I believe, only in the Barrie play, not the books. This movie seems to be a hybrid of the two, which works quite well in fleshing the thing out visually. :)
  6. Where did she find the boardin' axe, lad? Nice piece. Z
  7. That is a great site....also check out: http://www.castings.fsbusiness.co.uk/ which supplies the previous site with some of their stuff...though I gather there is a problem with the gonnes. Probably more "war on terror" fallout. Can't have evil terrorsits attacking the pentagon with 14th century handcannon, now can we
  8. Im with you, Master Hawkins Give me a sloop of war anytime. Something that will sail reliably on a wet tile floor. Z
  9. Must admit, havin directed the Barrie original script, this film is a gem, very true to the dark, sexual, and vaguely disturbing original...... An instant classic. The Hook is evocative, sympathetic, and wonderfully brutal at the same time. Wendy........welll Im waiting patiently fer her 18th birthday. :)
  10. Or ye could just cut ta the chase and call it. ARRRRRRRR Great for radio ads, but the print stuff may be a bit confusin.

  14. Deacon, Thankye for the ballistics link to remington. That really brings the differences in velocities into focus. To second the comments about pyrodex, We keep yelling at reenactors, both in the Civil War and Am Rev. and Rendezvous arenas (and Ive dealt with all of them) THIS STUFF IS NOT INTERCHANGABLE WITH BP IN THE SAME AMOUNTS. Boom. Leather pouches open, aperiod cell phones produced, 911 called...... This is called: Natural Selection.
  15. We should mayhaps make a film list for future events, maybe we could even put tagether a pyratical film fest summers? Add the Peter Pan film, lads. Its a winner. Z :)

Okay, finally, FINALLY, I got this straight. The actual title of the book is "The Scar" , to wit: The Scar by China Mieville Publisher: Del Rey; (June 25, 2002) ISBN: 0345444388 Lest ye gets the idea this is a romance novel, China Mieville is male, british, shaved, earringed, and looks more like a punked out Mr. Clean than Dorothy Lamore. The book is fascinating, an alternative Earth with multiple races and at its center a vast floating pirate city called ARMADA which has been at sea for literally millenia, a gigantic raft of taken ships. Well worth readin. Z :)
  17. Lovely version, methought. I've directed, bein a theatrical geek, the original Barrie script, and this version was far more true to the luvly darker aspects of the play and the books. Also thought the lass who played Wendy was supurb. Will be waitin patiently for her ta come of age an hope she develops an odd fascination for elderly pyrates. Seriously, this is a very well done film, amazing set work, some great costuming (not to mention small arms to drool over) beautifully edited, well acted. A very satisfying film , unlike most of the ones I've seen lately. You walk out talking about the images and acting, not critiquing the weaknesses, which is a lovely break from the hollywood usuals. Also love the Pyrate ship, complete with tumblehome. Z
  18. Arrr, ya nervy scaves Happy new Yarrrrrrrrrrrrr (pyratical enuf ? :) ) Its been a lovely year sailin wit ya, lads and lassies. Here's a glass to another even better. Z :) hic
  19. Most o the period stuff Ive seen preserved was browned, forced into a a light, controlled coate of rust with vinegar or urine and then waxed. The Brown Bess may have gotten her name from that process.
  20. ME suspician has always been that the bulk of these hangers was pretty crude affairs, hammered ta bits with use and disposed of overboard when they served their uses. I've been ta sea enough to know that salt water can even foul gold fittings, let alone carbon steel. I would purely love, if anyone has sources, some pix of some of the less elegant expressions of personal cutlary, the stuff more likely to be worn to work than to the catillion at the Admiral's Z
  21. There be a few states where "blackpowder" season is limited to flintlock shooters I believe. Pennsylvania may be one of em. Anybody know?
  22. Good Master Hawkins, Have ye found any reference among swordsmiths to the making of cutlass? Or are we mostly looking at blacksmith-made hangers bein given that name. Z
  23. Is we talkin reptilian or metaphoric snake here?
