  7. I loved Eisner's unwilled appearence in "Shrek" as the diminuative jerk of a prince. Did someone say dark chocolate? (fingers cutlass) Where might that be?

<<<<Spends large amount of time puzzling over the use of the term "inappropriate" as regarding beautiful women disrobing.....
  9. Nicely whimpered :) Mayhaps what we needs isnt a bit o land. Mayhaps what we needs is a couple of ships, one on each coast......
  10. I thinks its just th outfits Actually I think it's the combination of community and autonomy that's attractive. Just finished a study, done in the mid '70's (19 that is) called "The Children of Eden" about the commune movement. One of the comments the author makes is that most of the commune structures could allow for "weakness but not strength." That strong, vibrant personalities often drove the communes and then subsequently tore them apart. The Bucanier, with emphasis on committment to the company along with personal flamboyance and boundaries, may typify a kind of antidote either to the corporate state or the flower children, a kind of functional, individual, collective middle ground...... Sides, I likes sharp pointy things, wenches, and red wine...... :)

  14. Actually I suspect the word comes from (and I apologize for the spelling) Vjreibooter or "flyingboater", a reference to small, very fast vessels used by, among others, the bucanier raiders.
  15. Salem Bob, Im curious if yr countin snaphaunces and english locks as "true flintlocks"? I've read some writers that place the snaphaunce in Germany as early as 1550 and think the "Jacobian" lock may actually have sneaked in as early as 1584...... Thank ye for the info on loyalist. Ill go with the detached lock option, methinks. z :) :)

  20. In fact, most of the guilds coming out of the medieval period had some form of health insurence or compensation, as well a pension and widows benefits. The only large organiztion I can think of that lacks this essential feature of human society is the Government of the United States... unless, of course, youre in the congress, at which point you'll get millions AFTER you leave office.
