  1. We Were Buccaneers by Hoyt Axton. Wicked cool slice of Americana and it grows on you. Whiskey In The Jar is great. The Flying Cloud is another terrific piece. Tom Waits also has a cut on his new cd called Hoist That Rag that just rocks. But bar none, the best thing going right now is Queen Anne's Revenge by Flogging Molly.
  2. Divin' for half pay, eh? Poor buggers...makes me wish I could win Powerball and pick up the tab. Still though, I'm sure they'll make up for lost wages by pocketing a piece o' swag or two on the muddy bottom....and no one's the wiser. :)
  3. Wow those are fascinating! Thanks for posting John! It's funny - sometimes I forget just how small people were in those days compared to us. It was the same thing when I went to the Whydah museum and saw the shoe/legbone/stocking display. Tiny feet! Tiny men! Wee little pirates scurrying about the ship! I believe the average height was about 5'4" or 5'5", no?
  4. I like Dropkick Murphys, but they are no Flogging Molly.
  5. Yeah those don't seem very creative...maybe they are just filler titles until the actual scripting is complete.
  6. Why what else but every sailor's curse....that damn infernal VENEREAL DISEASE! Just a week in Port Royal alone be enough ta kill many a man!
  7. My my my....well how could M be anything else than Marooned?
  8. L be fer Larboard as in left an' thanks fer th' kisses MM! :)
  9. E is fer Ensign as in the colors ye flies... next be F!
  10. The Ben Gun Society is cool. :)
  11. That is VERY cool! Congrats!
  12. Picked up the new Flogging Molly yesterday. Hands down their best cd yet. GET IT! :) Nice, deep full-bodied sound on this one, excellent lyrics all around.
  13. Wow fascinating stuff, Siren. Unfortunately I don't know of either. Hopefully someone here does. :)
  14. Not to mention it'd be so stiff and brittle that it would chip off in pieces and probably break when you sat down.
  15. HEY man, you stole my thunder! :) I was gonna recommend Dropkick Murphys here! There are KICKASS too! I believe they did the fight song for the Bruins, it's on their latest cd. They are close runner up with Flogging Molly. Much more creative than your average bar-rock punk. :)
  16. Hell yeah! Their old site (just got a fancy new redesign for the new cd) had a quote on the home page that described FM as a "Guiness soaked musical body blow". Sounds like heaven to me!
  17. Yeah I like Shane too. Great stuff, that Irish punk!
  18. Yeah my previous fave was Salty Dog, as well as Drunken Lullabies, and The Likes Of You Again. NOW, it's Seven Deadly Sins and The Queen Anne's Revenge! HARRRR! :)
  19. Pirates didn't really have ranks. What little organization they did have was carried over from their Naval days with some changes. There was an elected captain, and a quartermaster who acted as liason between the crew and captain, administered discipline when needed, and kept tally of the plunder taken. Otherwise it was the same as any other ship of the day, with a bosun, coaxswain, and hopefully a carpenter and perhaps a doctor.
  20. A lot like that, but they also do some very quiet, sad tragic ballads that will put a tear in yer eye. Stuff about the Irish Famine, the workers who were exploited in the West building railroads, WWII, stuff like that. I haven't seen them live yet. I was just turned on to them about a year ago, and they are only now going out on tour for this new album. I'll probably catch a gig at some point.

  22. My FAVORITE band, FLOGGING MOLLY have a new cd out on Tues the 14th...and it's got PIRATES!!!! OH YEAH!!! If you haven't listened to these guys (and gal) you need to. It's the best and baddest Irish punk on the planet. I've been following them for awhile now, and they just get better and better. From time to time, they've flirted with the subject of piracy, mostly in the graphics of their shirts. But on the new cd they have at least 3 tracks I know of that are about pirates: Seven Deadly Sins Queen Anne's Revenge Tobacco Island (about Barbados) Wanna listen? Check it out HERE. Go to the Goodies area, for mp3 files of Seven Deadly Sins and QAR. Trust me, this group is the real deal, kick ass, original product. Their songs always deal with the downtrodden, the oppressed, the desperate thieves, in a rockin' punk way that will get you moving. You can "hear the pirates" even in their work that isn't specifically about piracy. So, if you like your music hard, fast as hell and raw as a keelhaul, get this new cd on Tuesday: Flogging Molly - Within A Mile Of Home.
  23. It's going to be specialty/comic shops like Newbury Comics. Also ebay will have it for sure. I got my POTC bobbleheads (also made by NECA) at Newbury. Course unless you live in New England you'll have to use their website.
  24. Cool. I've got a nifty book of GURPS rules called Swashbucklers that covers the Golden Age....mayhap we'll play over a good rum this winter!
  25. Definitely, Royaliste! I have a good book on privateering in the Revolution that includes a nice pic of the original broadside of this ad, and a nice explanation about how it's basically, as you said, full of sh*t. Still though, makes it sound like a grand time, eh?
