  1. 14th Annual Blackbeard Pirate Festival Announces Complete Schedule--Demise of most daunting colonial pirate celebrated May 31- June 2 in downtown Hampton;Prepare to Walk the Plank!!-- Hampton, VA- Pillage and plunder your way through the coastal seaport city of Hampton, Virginia this May 31-June 2 when the 14th annual Hampton Blackbeard Pirate Festival returns for another year of swashbuckling excitement! Celebrate Hampton’s rich maritime heritage by commemorating the demise of our most infamous visitor, Captain Edward Teach, a.k.a. Blackbeard the Pirate. Beginning May 31, roughly 50,000 seafaring attendees, as well as Blackbeard and his crew, will once again invade downtown Hampton during the 14th annual Blackbeard Pirate Festival! Interact with Blackbeard (personified by first-person interpreter Ben Cherry) and more than 100 other authentically costumed pirate re-enactors as they run rampant on the streets of America’s oldest continuous English-speaking settlement. The festivities kick off Friday night, May 31, 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina Hotel with the 14th annual Grand Pirates Ball (creative black tie or period attire enforced). The celebration, a recreation of Blackbeard’s Party at Okracoke, will feature Caribbean food, adult beverages, live music, and more. Though the festival is free, there is an admission charge for the ball. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased beginning May 1 at http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?organ_val=22339. Saturday’s activities include a swarm of extemporized street skirmishes between pirates and militia (costumed interpreters), a replica of Blackbeard’s pirate camp, complete with living history interpreters teaching the skills of the sailor circa 1700, and the trial and escape of William Howard, one of Blackbeard’s fellow pirates with ties to Hampton. Don’t miss the exhilarating re-enactment of the classic sea battle between Lt. Maynard and Blackbeard, featuring two full - scale replica vessels in the Hampton Harbor. At the conclusion of the sea battle a presentation ceremony takes place in which Blackbeard’s severed head will be bestowed upon Virginia Governor Alexander Spotswood (1710-1722). Visitors can participate in the festivities when they join Blackbeard’s funeral parade, Hampton’s own version of Mardi Gras, and share in the booty from the treasure chest. This year, the Hampton Blackbeard Pirate Festival welcomes three tall ships to the downtown docks: MEKA II, Serenity, and Bonny Rover. Based in Beaufort, NC MEKA II has an overall length of 54' and is a 2/3 - scale replica of an 17th Century, two masted pirate brigantine armed with 8 cannons. Her homeport is Beaufort, North Carolina where locals and tourist take pride in her ongoing efforts to preserve maritime heritage. The 65’ gaff rigged schooner Serenity was built in 1986 in North Carolina. Serenity is currently offering Pirate Cruises and Private Charters for Yorktown Sailing Charters in Yorktown, VA. Bonny Rover, a gaff-rigged topsail schooner, is an updated design of an 18th-century revenue cutter. Free tours of all three tall ships will be given over Blackbeard weekend. This year, the event will once again feature the Blackbeard children’s area, highlighting the Little Swashbuckler’-s Stage. The stage will host several performances, including special performances and a variety of musical acts. In addition to the children’s area, guests will have the opportunity to stroll through Blackbeard’s Pirate Camp where they can learn how to use a cutlass, load a cannon, or even sing a sea chantey at Pirate’s Cove. At Mill Point Park, visitors can also explore a collection of 17th& 18th century period vendors selling items such as jewelry, clothing, art, and personal accessories. Another highlight of Pirate’s Cove is the Silkie’s Hyde Tavern, a rustic tavern-style throwback to what a Hampton bar would have looked like in the 18th century. Feel free to rub elbows with some of the local swashbucklers and be served by wenches. Other weekend amusements include jugglers, musicians, a pirate procession, street entertainers, cannon fire at Battery Point, period weaponry demonstrations, bird shows, and more. Head downs Queens Way to check out the Blackbeard stage, complete with daytime pirate entertainment. In addition, Hampton Youth Bands, Ohana Style, Blue Ridge Country, DFD, The UnXpected, User Friendly and Inferno; and the USAF Blue Aces, will provide live music over the weekend. Saturday night will conclude with a dramatic fireworks display at 9:00 p.m. over the Hampton River! 14th annual Blackbeard Pirate Festival Full Schedule Friday, May 31 Grand Pirates Ball 7pm-11pmCrowne Plaza Hampton Marina HotelTickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. 2. what ho!! Good fortunes! And we have a rum sponsor! Goslings has signed on board to be our rum sponsor. I found out tonight there are a few rooms left at the crown plaza in downtown hampton out of our block. If anyone is interested in a room let me know and I'll provide a password to get the pirate rate for ya. One room per requestor please.
  3. hey shipmate, your link is dead. went to the facebook site, but alas- no info on your fine vessel. have you got plans online or something for us to take a peek at?
  4. Ahem.... 30 DAYS TO SHOW TIME KERMIT! New vendors, New boats and crews, same fun. Im afraid the hotel is sold out and the camp is overflowing. The closest hotels are by the Hampton Coliseum, about ten minutes away.
  5. check out colonial williamsburg as well. not only do they have lots of info on line they also have colonial newspapers on line as early as 1733(ish) a tiny bit late for some of our stuff, but a good source all the same.
  6. on the phone as I type...................... standing by to stand by.
  7. damnation. Silver, I'm sorry this is going on. I was really hoping this would all get straightened out. thankyou for keeping us all posted. how is everyone else doing with this?
  8. Hold fast shipmates! two more orders received from Blackbear. It looks like progress is being made.
  9. We have been onboard Luna a couple of days this week so rather than doing a timeline of the projects I’m going to review the projects themselves. Lets head back to the aft cabin. We have two things going on there this week. First: The remaining knees for the captains cabin have been completed. In this photo, the knees have been fared out and are awaiting paint. They will then be installed. Second: A new project has begun. Brian, another Sea Scout has begun working on the aft cabin windows. He spent part of the day making templates for the side window frames and we actually began making the aft window frame. We are making the frames out of a rotproof fiberglass reinforced foam. Once the box is shaped in place we are going to remove it and fiberglass it. It will then be reinstalled and finished in place. Third: Now back to the keelson! This part of the construction project is almost done! That arm belongs to Joanna who is waterproofing the keelson. Note the floor timbers going from left to right. They are all in place! We had to make some blocks to fill spaces where bolts connect the keel deadwood and keelson. Even though we are using huge chunks of white oak, we are concerned about rot. Typically, the rot occurs where these blocks and the dead wood meet. To remedy this we have added a few layers (1/4 of an inch actually) of fiberglass to the bottoms of the blocks. This also gives us some reinforcement to the block as the epoxy will soak into the wood and make it strong as nails. one big block of wood will be turned into many small ones. the two smaller blocks will be fillers and the larger is the beginning of the mast step the blocks are now fiberglassed. The block on the left shows how many layers are going on and the block on the right has been glassed. it needs to be trimmed once dry well there ya go! A weeks worth of little things add up to a lot of good work by all
  10. let me put one together and get it posted here. they should not take that long to do. we'll figure out price once i get the time straight.
  11. is anyone interested in procuring some of these? We have TONS of scraps from Lunas construction that would be perfect for this. We can do custom boxes out of a couple choices of soft woods. (we can do hard, but they would cost a bundle to ship) The cost of boxes would be a donation to construction. Any thoughts?
  12. Updated construction Blog is in the crews section. Be sure to take a look at the last picture. for all familiar with our ongoing projects a long awaited return!

  13. Where do I even begin. . . . . The past two weeks has been amazing for us! First, our long hunted for storage container came to fruition as a twenty foot shipping container was donated to us. This will allow us to store the resins and paints away from the barn making the whole operation safer. Now, here is the kicker. It apparently was a yard box as it came to us with shelves, lights, and power outlets. Now onto construction updates. -Tony has installed the port, or left, bulkhead half separating the main hold from the galley. We were working on the starboard, or right, side and we were pressed for a bit of time. But it looks great! -The shipwright was in the captains cabin working on framing knees. These are all now either permanently mounted or roughed in and ready to mount. Once that is done we can install the roof on the captains cabin. -The floor timbers which support the keelson have all been installed and the keelson is now laid in place. We have another days work of fine tuning and bolting before we can claim it as finis! One of our Sea Scouts, Joanna, installing the first of her floor timbers. This has been her Quartmasters project for her Scout promotion - A final picture for the day……… That warmly dressed blob on the foredeck is no other than our board member and pirate living historian extraordinaire, Pern. He is checking out Tony’s work on the bulkhead previously mentioned. Due to various issues, he has not been able to board Luna in over eight months. It was a grand day to have him back on board. Now if we can just get him to do some work. I’m going to do a new video tomorrow and get that posted so stay tuned.
  14. Ahoy all! After a long time of hunting, searching, and telling our story we now have our long needed chemical locker! This 20 foot container is damned near perfect! no rust, fresh paint, power already installed and shelf brackets running down one side already. We will be adding a rack to hold rolls of fiberglass and make a cutting table to prep the material. Adding an old metal fridge with no motor will hold and isolate the catalysts. When we are done building, we will use it for seasonal downrigging storage. Thank you B. A. E. industries for your donation! WE ARE UNDER WAY!!!!!!!!!
  15. happy dance. new inventory arriving for the foundation tomorrow. pics to follow

  16. Blackbear contacted us earlier this week. He has been provided the names of folks that I know of who he owes merchandise to. He has agreed that these orders need to be filled and is working towards that, but could not give a time frame. Thank you all for contacting me with your info so we can get this straightened out. While I obviously can't make any promises about his deliveries or completions we at least have some dialogue and headway now so lets see where it goes.
  17. Indeed. I'll send you her info tonight when I get home.
  18. ahoy vendors! it looks like grace has two spaces available in the period vendors area! If you may be interested in attending please let me know and I'll put you in touch with grace. We are looking for something new to the festival such as furniture, chests, weapons colonial goods.
  19. ok. great day! boat parts coming in and two new events contracts done!
