Jonathan "Iron Jon" Washbourne is really Jon Hinman - 11th generation descendant of Edward Hinman, who arrived at Boston in June 1650 as a crewman aboard the William and George of London.
Jonathan Washbourne, my pirate name, was taken from this story in the county records of Plymouth, MA - "In July 1701 Jonathan Washbourne Junr of Bridgwater appeared in court and was ordered to pay £5 fees and charges or be publicly whipped 20 stripes for his abusive and uncivil behaviour to Elizabeth Canaday Late of said Bridgwater by Thrusting up or putting of a skunk under the Cloaths to her Naked Body And then saying he had Done the office of a midwife. Washbourne paid the fine and became bound to his good behaviour until next term.”
(Washburn also happens to be the maiden name of my grandmother.)
