  1. well i felt that the pirates played a pretty small roll in the movie anyway.and i was pretty dissapointed with the movie.once again everyone from europe has a british accent and even someone from outer space has a british accent.it couldve been better

  2. this is my bunny, named Bunny. he has been my best buddy for almost 5 years. i also have another non-lop bunny and a large burmese python.(that white rat was a pet too but i no longer have her)

  3. Oh, and bottles...any size, shape or color...I love bottles....I have a bunch of them decorating our mantle in the living room.

omg how did i forget those? i have boxes and boxes of perfume bottles from old to new, cheap to expensive, little to about 6oz size.....

  4. ok,im dying to know the deal on striped socks.im talking about the knee socks with the contrasting horizontal stripes.everyone at the ren faires seems to wear them, but i find it hard to believe they are even close to period correct. if not, why does everyone wear them?

and if they are, why did they wear striped socks back then? seems wierd.

  5. has a board for fantasy/faire topics only ever been discussed? it seems like a great idea.i have talked to many people here thru IMs that are like me and will no longer post any of our garb because it just gets picked apart for accuracy, even tho we are not going for accuracy.there are several of us here who love the fun fantasy aspect of it all but have no place to discuss/show it. none of the boards are really that accepting of it.tolerant at best.

Have you posted in the "You and Your Garb" section Bonnie? I go in there when I'm showing off a new outfit. Everyone is usually very open to all sorts of dress, including my favorite, the mermaid costume.

My costumes aren't authentic, they're just for fun. No one has ever blasted my leather bodice or my Kohls boots. However, if I was to go to a reinactment I would be sure to either look into an authentic kit or go in my street clothes as a spectator. You don't go to a Star Trek convention dressed as Chewbacca the Wookie.

Why don't you start a new thread Bonnie? I'd check it out.

All of that aside, I really appreciate this thread. You never know when I might go "real" on everyone.

It's great to get some information on stays too. Is it much different than making a boned & lined bodice? Pardon my ignorance, I'm learning...

i have, but was pretty much ignored until more period correct stuff was posted.the general feel of the whole forum is "fantasy stuff is allowed, but we just dont like it,no matter how much work you put into it" lol

  6. Talk of accuracy is NOT limited to twill, but is *generally* kept there. Unfotunately there is no ALL hollywood or faire pirate channels.

  7. i was just wondering how does a person "have more presence than a turnip" at faires, but without the phony accent.when i go to faires i dont do the silly fake british accent because so few people can pull it off.but what other manner could you adopt to act the part?

also its no wonder im confused about the boards.this thread seems very much about accuracy but is in plunder <_<

  8. be sure to show us pics when you get done.

and again in 5 years before you get it removed/fixed

(remember gun powder coloration is much harder to remove than real ink and especially india ink)

  9. See ... I don't agree with that.... I have two tattoos on my right arm that I did with India ink ( I'm left /sinister  handed) and both of them are still black.....

This is all quessing..... but to use gun powder (black powder), and I figure you'd have to mix it with water to make a sorta ink..... rubbing the grains into a cut wound.... just dosent sound like it would make a good mark/tattoo.....

I've read about Mountain Men, tattooing themselves at the yearly Rendezvous..... (I forgot about Indains doing tattoos earlier as Callinsh has posted...) but What I read is that they cut the skin..... not use neadles to get the ink in......( I also read that they were drinking a LOT... so some of them ended up with a bunch  black scars......)

Now I'm wondering how well tattooing with black powder and a needle would work.... hey... I ain't going to get an exacto knife and cut open some skin fer a tattoo...... (maybe that is why all the Indain designs were so liniar... instead of curvy.......it's easier to cut straight lines.......)

I still don't think any Pyrate had a "Time flyes when yer having Rum " tattoo on his arm tho............

i have a tattoo i did with a razor blade and rubbed in ink i did when i was 15 (over 15 years ago).it was still there and just as dark when i covered it just a few years ago.

no indian ink doesnt turn blue, but the old tattoo ink wasnt indian ink and did turn bluish.i see it all the time on old guys.

i dont know how gun powder would work in a real tattoo machine, never saw the point, but if its smooth enough with no graininess at all im sure it would work, otherwise the smallest amount of grit would get between the needles and keep it from flowing smoothly. good luck in finding someone to do it for you tho

. and just because it was done long ago doesnt mean its a good idea.they used to drink from goblets made with lead didnt they?

  10. i got

    Lara Croft 96%

    Batman, the Dark Knight 96%

    Captain Jack Sparrow 92%

    Indiana Jones 75%

    El Zorro 71%

    James Bond, Agent 007 71%

    William Wallace 58%

    The Amazing Spider-Man 54%

    Neo, the "One" 50%

    The Terminator 21%

    Maximus 21%

  11. So now it's a disission between using black powder and water to make the ink... or using brown ink.....................

that should be a very simple choice, but if your only looking for historical (possible) accuracy and not health.permanancy, long term effects, environmental effects, etc, i say go for the gun powder

  12. Exactly..But what if you could prove it, what if part of the evidence brought back happened to be one of the missing church books? Would you still prove it or let it go?

im willing to bet any info you brought back would be brushed aside, because people only seem to care about what was documented.if it wasnt documented then it never happened,i think i heard that somewhere.

  13. Crowsnest Kate: Oy. Wouldn't eyeliner tattooing be a bit... painful? It might be dangerous, too. I'm not sure.

cosmetic tattooing (eyeliner, lipliner) is very common. it should be done by someone licensed in just that tho- not just any tattoo artist.they do use a topical numbing cream also. also you have to be sure to have them "warm" up the color (add some brown) or the strait black ink will turn bluish (as i mentioned earlier)

  14.

(OK... so most of the snow pack gets sold to the Bay Area....... and the politics of water is sooooo much fun...... but that's not why you buy bottled water......)

ive always beena gainst bottled water, but after seeing the crusty residue left by my tap water, and then regretably tasting it anyway,i buy it by the gallon and reuse the smaller bottles.off topic i know.someone mentioned bottled water

  15. and discreetly take lots of photos with my digi camera

But when you get back, none of the pictures come out.... digi cams wern't around then... so they wouldn't work........ B)

i thought we just thinking in fun,and not scientifically.that makes it kinda boring. i like to think of it like the "back to the future" movies- not realistic, just fun

  16. Hopefully I'll come to me sences befor I go an' do this......

In one of the Hornblower movies, one of the (bad) midshipmen had a skull tattooed on the back of his hand......

SO sometimes I just draw it there in ink, and scare children (parades and such)

and there is a thread in Twill about period tattoos..... and some of them being inked in gun powder.....

So that got me thinking (and this one may not be one of my better trains O' thought.....)

a skull tattooed using black powder fer ink on th' back O' me hand.........

bad idea.if youre not sure ,the hand is the last place to try it out. and i wouldnt use gunpowder unless you could be certain it was safe under the skin- long term and short term,im betting it isnt gonna work out too well

  17. id like to say i would go back hundreds of years, but as a woman i know that wouldnt be fun. i would go back to the 50s where women were also pretty free, life was simpler, styles were cute, music was good, the earth wasnt overpopulated. no i havent been there but i know people who have. lol

oh yeah i would bring back lots of baseball cards and discreetly take lots of photos with my digi camera
