  3. oi cap'n...oh i can tie a knot...its the un-tie-in i gits a problem wit
  4. so ok...heres' the trick...don't lie in the hammock length ways...end to end...but more diagonal like...damn near sideways....that way ya don't need the "perfect distance " tween to uprights...and you actually lay flatter for a better nights sleep thats more comfortable....mine is actually an ecuadorian made hammock...made the same way for damn near a thousand years...or so "they" said...whoever "they" are....and i can sleep in mine with the ends damn near touchin.....so distance really never comes much of an issue.....
  5. thinkin 'b out just me fly of my wall tent...use that as a tarp staked to the ground eh'?....then just a stout stick or two to keep and end up...or a little rope work....an viola!!!!!.....a big mess on the ground...most likely me hammocks a commin too...try ta keep way from the red ants...tho i heard they are not half as bad as the deadly chartruse ants.... just tyhought the fly was lighter and easier packed then the wedgie/lean to....
  6. personally i just look at the SPELLING.....COTTON starts with a "C"....LINEN starts with a "L"
  7. yeah...i was braggin about the free "dirt" one year a ta wild west event...thu me self in the middle of the dusty road to get the right look...and discovered that besides dirt...a very fresh "road apple" works as well...not bad for the complexion either i might add.
  8. oi...anyone mention good ole fashioned "durt" yet?...seems to make any impression better by simply being dirty....sure ya tried to weear your best at times...or work clothes seperate...but how many shirts did ya really have?...and shoes?...or waistcoats?...how often were these really washed? or mended?...many seamen became great sewers by necessity...many did not....seems (to the audience) they always pick out the grubby bum/hobo/wino looin guy as a real pyrate...than the neew store bought fancy man..... plus dirts cheap....
  9. got tickets ...now what...where do we officially sign up to participate....is the PiP site the newest updated version?...saw register form there... anyway to just e-mail it it?...or is snail mail only way? please excuse me if this has already been addressed...didn't see it mentioned anywhere....

  13. oh yeah...tar will be swords, knives, boardin axes, cudgels, rocks, dead fish, live fish, sea guls, coral, a palm frond or two perhaps, even a cast iron pot...or whatever else seems ta be handy....
  14. damn-nation boy...i am mightly impressed at yer sewin skills...considerin it looks as if ya has NO HANDS in the pictures ya posed...how the hell do ya thread the needle???
  15. well ...quit braggin...lets see yer work....eh?
  16. tho to be in a combat scenario ie BATTLE...a sword is not always necsary to be in a "sword fight"....kinda like bringing a knife to a gun fight.....there are plenty of references of cudgels...ie "big ass stick"....also single sticking was a safe way to practice sword techniques in port....while the irish/scottish/welsh...were known to have stick fighting bouts...kinda like boxing with a club in yer hand.... in fact we have used several scenarios where the invaders to camp were repeled by...well what ever was handy....iron poker...an axe....cast iron pot firewood...etc.....same goes for this....a walking stick was carried in many a period portraits....but carried at the ready...not used for walking...especially in port were many local lawws prohibited carriying of weapons...... in a perfect world...everyone would have a beutiful sword and pistol to be envy of fer sure....but in reality...if someone uglier than me was chasing after me....im picking up whatever was handy to even the odds in me favor..... sorry ...rambling again.... yo...cassie....yeah...im bit of a half breed meself.....a mix of a gun guy...and sword guy...guess just depends on how close they are??
  17. not for my big ol but....er i mean mr manly large shoulders and girth....oh never mind
  18. yo mickey...ya bring up a good point....staged vs combat.... really this distinguished by the guys running the show...and what they are comfortable letting us do ( or get away with)...... being experienced with each...old theatre guy plus 20 years re-enactment...(tho never any sca...not sure why).....i agree with ya on the splitting of hairs...and type of weapon used..... but here is the major thing as i see it....in what we use...comes down to control...control of your weapon....control of the scenario...control of the area...control of the participants...etc... liked staged....its just that...staged....dont really hit the other guy...come close...make it look good...but no hitting....even in battle scenario....where your opponent may very...use preset moves...with the proper "cues" for each....you can have an "impromptu" staged fight...or loosley choegraphed fight...and still maintain the saftey of all....'course this still goes back to makeing sure everyone is on the same page...using the same guidelines...as predetermined by the event chordinators....tho some of us have been doing this ( or similar) for many a year now...this paticular type of venue is new and standards have yet to reach a broad spectrum....til this happens....i believe it is up to us...the events...and the grouos out there to get together at these events...see other techniques...see what works and what dosent...and why....so as to teach others to do the same... and usually battle scenarios that we will be using in this venue and those similar... would be of the type where the "victors" will already be determined....say the pirates invade but are pushed back...or are all killed...or are taking prisoner...or sack the town.....whatever....but you should go into the battle already knowing if yer on the winning side or no....which greatly inhibits the idea of "competition" element out of the mix....or should anyhow.... edit: sorry hand....need to start reading all the posts before i just jump in.....yep sir...i agree with ya too....thats what we have done in the past....highlight a few swordfighters.....up close an personal like....and some simpler farthur down the line.....none f this has to be very complicated.....actually we have founf that the simpler fights end up looking more real....with people falling or running away...or being chased a bit.....but yeah...you got the gist of it....
  19. i have only one thing to add to make it perfect...toooo clean...git it durty...then ya got somthun grand
  20. i had a southern up-bringin...so would have to be SWEETTEA...(yeah its one word)... an as for coffee....i perfer the original.....Greek Coffee....yeah thats right...small cups...coffee ya can chew at the bottom....bitter...thick....a mule kick jump start in the mornin...or afternoon...or evein....or damn neer anytime.....an when yer done....flip the cup over an read the grounds...wifes family says i gots the knack.... wifes family is greek...so the ORIGINAL coffee is GREEK...not TURKISH...if ya want to know...ask a GREEK dont ask a TURK....or so says me wifes family you can ask...but not me....had that conversation one too many times (once actually was too many times) they wouldnt let me into the family until i could make a neer perfect cup of greek coffee.....and my family wouldnt let her join ours till she could make a decent batch of SWEETTEA......oh yeah....family traditions die hard...really hard
  21. now micheal...i know that yer a fencer..and a sca man.....what are their rules on "screw tip tangs"...the jousting and sword fighter groups i had belonged to never allowed these because it was a weak spot at the hadle and usaully led to breakage(durring a show...bad)....full tang only was always beat into our heads(quite literally)...'course they also had a tendency to hit a bit harder with broad swords rather than the style used with sabres and small swords.... personally i never actually trusted the screw hilts for the same reason...what has been your experience???...or anyone elses for that matter....yeah or neah??
  22. 'course....rule # 436....that was always my favorite....that rule should really go without sayin....so obvious an all

  24. yawn ...just wakin up...sorry 'bout that rats...been workin 24/7 since paynestown.....not been keepin up with the posts....ok i am caught up now.....that last lttle bit sounded a bit familiar..... ok....regarding steel blades in da field...... rule # 1.....choreagraphy safest of all...well rehearsed...ahead of time..... rule #14....agreed upon "BANGERS" (for battle)...vs "HANGERS"(sharpies for show).....never any "HANGERS/SHARPIES in battle scenarios.....unless HIGHLY CHOEROGRAPHED FOR UP CLOSE TO AUDIENCE EFFECTS....special circumstances only rule # 28....similar blades vs similar blades...ie starfire against strfire...rapier vs rapier....loddaladdaladda..ya get yhe point rule # 162....know who yer fightin...same group safest....or one teacher vs student...should really stayu away from newbie vs newbie...unless supervised and approved ahead of time.... rule # 278....fight in designated area....in a battle...areas where shootin only(no blades allowed)...then run through blades area(no guns allowed)...should always be scouted out earlier rule # 302...slow down yer feet....run up to the fight...then stop...then engage....be mindful of yer blade...yer opponent...yer audience....yer feet...etcetcetc rule # 436...ahhh ...i forgot that one rule # 524 and a 1/2.......make sure everyone else in battle scenario....fightin or not...knows when and where yer plannin to swing yer blades....and is ok with that..... rule # 524 and 3/4...apendix B......simple "hits" and "blocks" can be discussed and practiced with the "newbies" for a safe alternative to choreagraphed....as long as everyone stays within safe zones... rule # 525....never mind...never liked that rule.... rule #526.....see rule # 672 rule #672....NOT A COMPETION....NOT TRUE FENCING...STAGED COMBAT ONLY....object to LOOK AS IF YOUR ARE FIGHTING TO THE DEATH ( or at least to the pain)...DONT ACTUALLY FIGHT TO THE PAIN..... rules # 803 thru # 4,682...will save fer another post...when i actully wake up....
