  1. Hey Sterling, Since me and the missus are signed on with the Archangels for this venture... I just wanted to ask if we will be portraying "pirates", "privateers", or "local militia" in Beaufort? I'm pretty good with any of the three, but knowing which will help me pack and also help best determine which projects I am working on should be prioritized... Post here or PM me... Thanks!
  2. I'd like to second that thanks! Not only will I try cleaning the missus' stays with the Nature's Miracle... But the next time one of the flea-lines empties thier gullet on the floor I can use it for that too!
  3. Maybe being banished by M.A. D'Ogge to ride in the trailor rather than the cabin may be a blessing rather than a punishment...
  4. Speaking partly for the wife, and mostly for myself here... I was hopeing there might be a reasonably safe way to wash the lining without pulling it out... As the one who does most of the sewing, I was hoping I could avoid having to cut the stitching and restitching the lining in... But if that is what I have to do, then that is what I have to do...
  5. If you scroll down about three quarters of the way on this page of this thread, you will see my clamshell hanger (which was custom), or you can visit the MK Armory website to see the array of SCA styled rapiers and other earlier period weapons Dan has done. Please note, that the price I paid for that weapon was a year and a half ago, and because of the drastic increase in the cost of steel since then, prices may have changed dramatically... I've convinced him to make me a "combat/fencing" safe off hand weapon that will look exactly like a period plug bayonet... Things have just been too tight for me lately to place the order, so it will likely have to wait until autumn or perhaps even winter. If you contact him, mention my name, it might help...
  6. I don't want to take this thread too far off topic... But most good sword makers should be able to do well made copies from a good series of photos... I happen to know a really good swordsmith that is local to me, that specializes in historic fencing weapons (he mostly does work in the SCA, but is VERY much interested in expanding his markets)... I'm fairly sure I showed you my clamshell hanger sword at Hampton, and if I didn't, I will ensure I let you have a good look at it at Beaufort... It is made from said swordsmith. I've been needling this guy to make a few more GAoP period combat blades of various styles, but he's been so focussed on his typical orders (that he is rather disenchanted from doing) he just hasn't had the time or inclination to do up stock in a market untested to him...
  7. Interesting, I must of glossed over that quote Dutch... But they must be a very good guild if they are getting their hands on original peices, dismantling them, and copying them... Hell I wasn't even allowed to take my bloody camera into the "Real Pirate"/Whydah exhibit, and they made us turn our cell phones off just to prevent any use of camera phones as well... If they're actually getting that kind of special treatment, hell where do I sign up?
  8. I think they are scattered, but with the highest density being arround Eastern PA...
  9. Also of note, I picked up the latest(?) copy of Skirmish magazine yesterday (it is a magazine for re-enactors based in the UK for those unfamiliar with it), and there is a three or four page article featuring the Sea Rats in the mag. Not a very detailed article, but a pretty cool sumary of re-neacting the GAoP.
  10. Every time you post that image Misson, I can't help but be marvelled by it... The blade is steel (or iron), of that I have no doubt... The handle looks like turned wood with metal caps on both ends... But I can't wuite tell if the metal caps on the handle and the spine of the saw is iron/steel with a very aged patina, or if all the metal that isn't the blade is a copper allow (brass/bronze). Do you have any other information about the saw? Or is the image all you have?
  11. Well since you're not invited and all... Can I borrow your purty yeller dress?
  12. Just thought I would ask here... But the "Ball" on Saturday night (Aug. 9th), is there any chance that there will be a discount for participants? (I'm kind of doubting this, but it never hurts to ask... ) And do the tickets need to be bought in advance? Or are they only being sold "at the door"? Thanks in advance if anyone has any info or insight into this... Now back to trying to figure out what to wear..
  13. While this doesn't answer your question (I do wish you all the bets of luck with your hunt)... If you scroll down to the very bottom of the section (Plunder in this case), you will see a set of three drop down menus... The third one by default is "the last 90 days"... If you change that setting you can view more threads... Or if you scroll a little further down, there is also the "Search" function. Hope this helps, and good luck again with the quest for holsters...
  14. I guess I wll give this a go.. Although my list should be fairly short.. I think I can safely speak for both myself and my wife, as I am fairly certain we have met all the same folks Capt. Sterling M.A. D'Ogge Cheeky Capt. Pete Straw Bloody Jack Mad Mary Diamond Croaker (he's on the pub? Or was his name just added as a member of the Archangel Crewe?) Gigi Aminjiria Mae Brig Abbington Normal (almost forgot Abbington, don't know how though!) Misson/Carriocoli (sp?) Kass Capt. Tightpants (sp?) CrazyCholeBlack Haunting Lily Edward O'Keefe Silkie bbcdutchman Capt. Pern (barely made his aquaintence, but I will count it anyways) withoutaname CallenishGunner SaltyPots Fayma Callahan 1stMateMatt Lady Seahawke That list actually was much longer than I expected it to be... And I hope to expand this list a lot more over the course of the year....
  15. I guess I would invite anyone interested, but as it would likely be a small event (1 day, actually we were only "on" from noon until 6PM so that is a 6 hour event), so I would guess that most would probably not want to drive more than 3 hours +/- for it... But I guess I could post any news of it here and let people decide for themselves what a reasonable drive was/is...
  16. I'm really sorry M.A. D'Ogge... We only found out about the demo on Tuesday of last week, and we didn't get the rest of the details until Thursday (or was it Friday?).... There were a few people we would have liked to invite from nearby areas, but as it was very last minute, and it was someone elses gig, we just couldn't this time... Now that the first run is done, when and if we do another demo like this, we will definately invite you and others within reasonable drive... and Probably with more notice than we got too. Now please, please, please don't stick us in the trailor.... I'm afeared of small dark spaces... Although I will be locked up in there with a really hot chick...
  17. Speaking of variety, I also am making them in four colours now... Natural Veg-Tan, Timber Brown, Black, and now Cranberry Red as well. I haven't made one in red yet, but I am hoping to get to that later this week, I'll try and remember to post a pic when I do one to show the colour off. I've also been considering doing a "rust" colour (mixing the red and the brown dyes), but we'll see...
  18. I'll be in Beaufort with my wife, the Archangel Crewe has graciously offered to take us in again. Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else there again. Maybe if time permits, you would indulge me and some others with a quick jaunt on the Explorer again?
  19. Dorian, if you read back through the thread a ways, Midnight mentioned some time ago that he is giving up on making the shot pouches (although he may have changed his mind)... I don't much relish the idea of sniping a sale... But if Midnight is still on hiatus from making the pouches, I would happily take your order if you are so interested. If you are fond of the slats added to the roof of the pouch as Midnight does it, I can do it for you that way as well, I have just chosen to make my "production"model closer to the Phips shot pouch than the Whydah version.
  20. Wow, this is an old thread.... Anyway, I decided some time ago that I wanted to make a new sword belt. I was happy enough with the one I had, although I found the angle it held the blade at was a little too "horizontal", and I wanted some variety as well. The only source I have on hand for sword carriages is the often touted "Swords & Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. While the book's focus is much later, it does have quite a few items of information and pics of swords that are much earlier than "The Revolution", many of which fall nicely into the GAoP... I decided to "dumb" it down a bit to be more suitable to a more common impression, so I left out the fancy edging, and instead of using "buttons" on the two loops that hold the sword in place, I rivetted that as well. (Picture below) The scuffs and marks are mostly from schmutz on my mini-anvil and work bench (the rivets used are solid peened rivets and not modern pop rivets), although some of the dirt is powder residue from this past weekend. Doing this sword belt has made me seriously consider re-doing my older one to change the angle on the older belt...
  21. Thanks Sterling... As much as I would love to take credit for this gathering, this small event was the result of another's hard work. Although I do intend to help grow and foster this as much as possible in any way possible. I only wish our camera battery hadn't died and we had gotten more pictures of some of the others that arrived a little later... Despite the photos not showing this, it was a really good mix of more authenticity minded pirates AND pirates that dress more to the mythical archetypes fostered by movies and renn-faires.
  22. Hey all, This is more of an "after-action report" than an event announcement... But this past weekend myself and my wife and a handful of others did a demo style event on the reproduction of the Santa Maria here in downtown Columbus Ohio. We had a lot of fun, and got to meet some other local folks that are similar minded so it was a great day all in all. My Photobucket account has a bunch of photos taken throughout the day for those inclined to want to take a peek. There was some talk about the possibility of doing a second "mini-event" of this type later in the summer or perhaps in the autumn, just in case there is anyone in the Columbus area that might be interested (or anyone not too far away that would want to commute).
  23. I don't want to hijack this thread or take it off in a completely different direction... But I have had this link sitting in my favourites for what seems forever... I thought I might have gotten this link from here, but on going back through the thread, I didn't see it (on a quick scan)... Anyways, here's the link, it's kind of a cool and cheap effect, but it may be a little too graphic for a family oriented show... I leave this now in the hands of those who like and work with special effects, and those who have been to PiP already and know if something like this would be appreciated or not... By the way, that is a really cool gibbet Misson!
  24. For more information... Try this thread, Waistcoats Or this thread, Sailor's Short Coat Or this thread, Sailor's Short Coat Or this one, Admirality Sailor's Slop Contracts Or even this one, Common Sailor's Clothes Or nto much here, but a little more, Weskits or Sailor's Short vests Or from Plunder Proper Waistcoats Most of these threads have been lovingly pre-bundled by Patirck Hand on this thread, Clothing Thread Index (in Twill) ot this thread, Clothing Threads Index (in Plunder) If the information you are looking for isn't in any of the above threads, it probably doesn't exist... And if you have any questions that aren't fully addressed in a particular thread, it is always more helpful to bump an old thread to expand that than start a new thread and fragment the information. Hope this helps
