Interesting... And rather un-Mac-like... Have you tried any of the other browsers available for the Mac? Like Opera, or Mozilla, or Netscape, Or FireFox? I've not used Safari, and I have heard very little about it, so I can't say fairly or not if that may be the problem... But it may be worth a shot if you have the hard drive space to load a second (oer perhaps even a third) web browser program on your computer. A close friend of mine who is an avid Mac user swears by Opera....

Sorry your having so many troubles with Photobucket... OUtside of being painfully slow, I've not had any real troubles with it. As for other online photo storage options... There is Flickr... Their FREE storage is VERY limited, for any reasonable amount of photo storage on Flickr, you have to pay a fee (can't remember if the fee is annual or monthly). But when I did use Flickr, I did find it easy to use and not too slow. There is also mySpace, it's easy enough to get the photos onto mySpace, but I have had troubles posting images on the Pub from there before... It is a fussy beast, and probably may not be the best solution... Although unlike Flickr, it is free. There are probably a lot more options, but that is what came to my mind first. Hope this helps!

I really hope you are able to make it Midnight! It would be great to meet you face to face!

The ultimate pirate/ninja-sword/gun!

That is hilarious! What is even more amusing (for me anyways), is that I was at a Renn-Faire this past weekend, and I saw one of those on sale at one of the booths... Of course I didn't realize there was a secret hidden within, I only saw the exterior.... Now I regret not stopping and asking to take a look at one. -
Hey Callenish, I sent you an email abo a week ago, I'm just wondering if you have been busy and haven't had the chance to get back to me yet... Or if there is a problem with my email and you didn't get the message. Please private message me or email when and if you get the chance. Thanks!!!

Not that I am any sort of expert on the matter.... But I would say that image is OF the 1680s or 1690s... The style of the Justacorps depicted in it has a very early period feel to them. That said, to me (and my opinion is based on nothing here), but to me that image looks like a pretty good modern (late 20th early 21st century) depiction of the period. But I admit I could be wrong here... But if my memory serves me well, I have plenty of period images (particularly early French, 1680s/1690s) where men are depicted wearing sashes. Judging from THAT image (the dude in the pink and blue), it looks like it is loosely tied (not knotted), similarly to how I tie my scarves in the winter. I'm not sure I know how to explain how to get a sash or scarf tied like that... Maybe if I can find a scarf I can take some pictures later and see if that helps. As for the sash over the dude with his back to the "auidience"... I've seen plenty of images with baldrics similar to that, but none quite so wide... I wonder if the artist is exagerating the baldric for some reason. I imagine finding some specifics on the provenance of the image would probably give the most information on how (and if) any parts of the image could and should be interpretted....

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes on our wedding day... But we will not be naming any offspring after Mr. D'Ogge!!!

Well, the wife (seems strange to say that without irony ) and I needed a few minutes to decompress yesterday, so she logged onto my computer and I was reading over her shoulder... But we weren't on for long.... As to what we should have been doing, well... I think we figured it out... Callenish Gunner , I will be sending you an email either later tonight or tomorrow. To everyone else who has messaged me, I am a couple of shot pouches behind at the moment, I should be caught up by the end of the week, but I will try and respond to everyone tonight or tomorrow as well..

I haven't got the bug yet.... But I have been mildly missing gamng in my life for almost the last decade... And I've actually started to meet some local people that are into gaming, so it might just be a possibility for me. Although I did pick up Talisman a month or so ago, and we have dubbed that cardboard crack. I think the only reason we've been continueing to play Talisman over switching to D&D 4.0 is for want of another person or two to play....

THIS IS ACTUALLY KATE SOURIS! (I was too lazy to log in as meself.... :) ) I would love to join in if it's not too late? I am an avid scrapbooker, so I hope that I would be able to contribute something fantastic to these books....and it just sounds like fun!

Hey all, I just thought I would inform those who know me, that this Sunday at 3:00 PM, Jessica and I (Kate Souris and I) will finally be tieing the knot... With a real live minister and everything. So from here on in, we will not only be portraying a married couple, we finally actually WILL be a married couple. As this will likely be a pretty busy weekend for both of us, I am guessing neither of us will be online much... So thanks in advance to any well wishes (or condolences) . Maybe if all goes well I can post a photobucket link on Monday or Tuesday of some of the wedding photos. As for tonight... I celebrate my bachelorhood with a bunch of friends. My best friends smuggled a few bottles of my favourite well aged Canadian Rye Whiskey with him. I know it's not rum, but I still love it.

I can confirm this... When I was last in Canada for a while... I heard all about some new laws in Canada (not sure if they were proposed or had just passed), but aparently Canada is getting pretty anal about any and all recorded (pirated?) music/software/movies (basically any recorded media)... It is aparently a very big issue at the moment. But other than recorded media Metasalem has it right... You could bring in an big shiny purple elephant, and Canadian Customs wouldn't bat an eyelash or say a single word about it.

Hey Chris, there is this Old Thread on the matter, while even the old thread doesn't have all the answers, picking up that discussion and reviving it might be enough to satisfy you, or perhaps it might restart the discussion again so all the information stays together!

Ship's Lanterns, Rush Candles, Frog Lanterns &c

I haven't used this type of light for late period re-enacting.... But I have a lamp I forged for late Dark Age use. It is open and without glass, so I never used it inside a tent, but I did use to light it and leave it a few paces from my tent (for safety) and it was sufficient light to find my way into my tent late at night. Remarkably enough, I have used both vegitable oils and bacon grease, and have found that the bacon grease gives the more steady light. I had to stop using it though as the bowl of the lamp is about 3 feet off the ground, and too often I was camping with groups that had small unruley children. Hope this helps. -
As someone who has dealt a grat deal with the other side of that coin, let me tell you, you guys have it easy!!! Try getting something completely innocent and harnless through US customs.... Now that is when REAL trouble begins. 4 to 6 week delays and pre-oppenned packages would be a WELCOME releif compared to dealing with US customs. I am very sorry to here that folks shoe orders have been delayed though...

It would be a wretched loss if Mr. Wake doesn't make it, I was really looking forward to meeting William. Not that this will make up for his loss in any way, but I have about 5 or 6 friends that are considering the trip to Key West with Kate and I. I'll provide names as I get more solid answers out of them (if any of them wind up coming at all ). I am also going over the idea of a fund raiser for William and his wife, in case that may help... More details on that when I connect all the dots on this not quite formed idea (if it turns out to be feasible at all). Or perhaps if anyone else is interested in this idea, we could start a thread on it.

Also, since it is now the end of June... Has anyone received their Loyalist shoes yet? Any prelimenary reviews?

Not that this topic needs any more support... But I found the below image by Watteau dated to 1712, and I would wager that these French soldiers are wearing gaitors as well.

Quote found on this page Interesting insight on the standard issue of clothing within the army.

In my ongoiing research into uniformed (and militia) soldiers of the GAoP, I have stumbled across a few interesting quotes recently... Above quote can be found here date to 1709 I can't find it at this particular moment, but I found a similar citation from 1705 (I think) about a militia unit in Barbados also following the practice of wearing Red Coats in emulation of regular forces. I'll post that when I find it again.

Just an FYI... I am also now offering cartridge boxes in Cranberry Red (it's a dark red). And while browsing through the British History archives, I found the below citation about cartridge boxes (cartouche boxes), the citation is from 1693. (Bold emphasis added by me)

Here is a link to a long waistcoat (weskit) pattern... You could just shorten the length on this pattern to suit your needs. Also leave the arms out if you do not want sleeves. Long Waistcoat pattern

Well then, it sounds like the best idea is for you to slow down on your way past Columbus, and we can jump on board... Because if you bring half as much stuff as it sounds like you do, unpacking your stuff just to load it into one of our vehicles just doesn't sound like it makes much sense. As for Mad ravings... I'm good with Canadian jokes, hell I have a good collection of them I can probably share with you! I don't think you'll find me making much fun of Illinois, as before I got lost there trying to find my way to Chicago back in February, I can't say I've ever heard of the place before. As for Detroit (pronounced "de-twah"), I've heard some jokes, but not enough to remember any... I'm also really good for about sharing part of the driving responsibilities (for some twisted reason, I really enjoy distance driving), but the other half will likely sleep most of the trip as she gets motions sick unless she doses herself out. Sorry if any of this is a repeat, it seems she and I both posted at the same time.

I'm not sure which order to answer all of that in, or even how to respond to half of it... But here it goes, Yeah, we're in Ohio, just in Columbus (I'm an import, she's a domestic... wait, she is domestic... no that's not right... oh, you'll hopefully get the idea). We travel fairly light, we can fit all of our gear and garb into the trunk of her Honda Civic. Although we could take my mini-van if we needed more space, or if you are willing to haul our sorry backsides for a share in the cost o the expenses, that would work too. I think the event is only three days (Fri - Sun)

No Problems, perhaps we may be able to work something out with Mr. Dogge, and there is still plenty of time between now and then to see what other arrangements there are to be made.
