He...? That's Mary diamond. Tsk. Tsk. Oh! Sorry, Mary! After all those nice things I said about you previously, too. I thought it was Michael with his rifle. (He has a coat about that color.) Apologies. Actually, it is Mary with my rifle.... She was kind enough to pick it up for me (I had tossed it aside as it was being problematic, again...)... And she got shot trying to return it to me... I believe Cheeky compiles her favourite photos on her Photobucket, so it can be hard to figure out which photo belongs to whom when drawing photos from her account... But it does make for a great summary!

No, your not doing anything wrong, The links are from prior to Stynky's revamp (the pub recently changed hands and underwent some minor changs)... So if you copy and paste the link, and remove the portion of the URL that says "forums" they will work correctly. For example the first link for "Common Sailor's Clothing", the old link looks like this... http://pyracy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8310, but if you edit the link in the address bar of your browser to look like this... http://pyracy.com/index.php?showtopic=8310 it will work fine. Hope this helps! You may also wish to check, this thread out... Clothing Index from the Captain's Twill section Basically, the "Thieve's market" covers everything (authentic and hollywood inspired and fantasy and archetype inspired etc.)... And "Captain's twill" is more or less for discussing strict authenticity. Cheers!

Happy to hear that you got your shoes, and they are now done correctly! Time for me to get about ordering a pair, I keep saying that, and then I keep finding reasons to drag my feet about it....

Welcome Raymond... I think I might recognize that User Name from some other later period colonial forums.... Either way, good to have you here. Sit down and enjoy. Cheers

Not to be a pain in the butt... But would anyone in this discussion mind if I petitioned a moderator to split the Chemise/Shift stuff into it's own thread? I don't think there has been a really good shift/chemise thread here (or at least not in a long time), and having a thread of it's own that can easily be searched for int he future would be a very valuable thing. Anyways, just thought I would throw the suggestion out there.

stays and other female costume questions...
michaelsbagley replied to withoutaname's topic in Crafting Kit
Etiquette? We'll have none of that here... Really there are no rules here... Some people try to keep discussions about certain topics together, some are more free-spirited.. and it is all good. Hopefully the images and links in this thread might help you with your projects. Don't ever hesitate to ask if you have questions, as you will find, there are plenty of people here who like to help and give advice. -
A Pyrate's Account (a PiP Journal)
michaelsbagley replied to Cpt Sophia M Eisley's topic in Fort Taylor
I've also kept a blog of PiP on my mySpace page... http://www.myspace.com/michaelsbagley But it isn't complete yet... I've been dragging my feet about it, but maybe this will inspire me to finish. Silas, Mission usually won't post links to his "Surgeon's Journal" until it is complete. Although you can find the earlier editions of the "Surgeon's Tales" Links on this page. -
Uhm, yeah.... Well, he uhm... He stubbed his toe... And since Mr. Red Wake wasn't around, well someone need to be operated on.... (In best "Mom"ish voice) See what you get for leaving your toys laying around. Next time you'll know to clean up after yourself. And besides, didn't you know that imitation is the best form of flattery?

stays and other female costume questions...
michaelsbagley replied to withoutaname's topic in Crafting Kit
Oh that is so pretty... I myself make it sort of like a mantua with set in sleeves. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't show the waistband or the very front of the bodice. Did you have an idea of what you were looking for? Welcome to the Pub Lady Brower, in true spirit of this forum, this discussion has kind of moved over to this discussion topic.... Although because the discussion ranges over two threads, share your ideas on either or both as you will! -
Deep Pockets? Considering how you pay your pressed men (and women) those deep pockets had better be empty deep pockets...

Wow, a triple post! That has to be a new record. (kidding) What do you know, Md. De Maintenon, 2nd wife of Louis XIV.... How could I miss that?!?!?

I would have thought that the very existance of a fashion plate that (in my eyes) quite clearly displays someone who is not labelled as a royal wearing ermine would clear all that up... But going back to out of date sumptuary laws and then going through the rise and fall of the parliamentarians backs it up I guess. Okay, I guess the fashion plate is French, and the conversation was relating to England, so I can see how one would want to verify prevenance in the different context...

Heck as far as conflicts go, locally we have the Ashville Viking festival (Renn Faire type festival) the last weekend of April (Ashville Ohio is 20 - 30 minutes south of Columbus), and then we have the OSU (university) Renn-Faire the first weekend of May... But at least the OSU thing is Saturday only, so working with that one might be possible. So the more thought I give it, the better the second last week of April, or the second week of May sounds better... And that is without considering the events of neighbouring regions. We'll make it happen one way or the other... Lucky timing will likely have more to do with it than palnned design will.

Since this was mentioned in another thread... I thought I would bump this up. We are planning to do another pirate re-enactment day on the Santa Maria, but all scheduling on the ship has been postponed until funding for the 2009 season has been sorted out. I will however go out on a limb, and explain some ideas for it that I have in hopes that everything will work out. That said, Mark (who many of you met at PiP) is really the man in charge... So please take my throwing ideas out there with that in mind. I have discussed some of these ideas with Mark, and haven't come across any objections yet. I am hoping for an all weekend to-do this time, so where the last few times it was Saturday only, I am hoping we can get this going all day Saturday and Sunday. When Mark and I last talked, we had discussed aiming for "early in the season", and since the ship opens in April, this would likely mean the event (if it happens, and when we hope), it would likely be a weekend in mid to late April or early to mid May. Being in an urban park, camping will likely not be an option. That said, last time we were allowed to sleep on the ship (which was a really cool experience). But keep in mind that means no privacy. Although sheould the weather not cooperate about a third of the main deck is under the quarter deck, and the hold (which can be a bit stuffy) is also sheltered. There are no guarantees as to this sleeping arrangement, but I would find it likely. Alternatively, Kate and I could put a few people up at our apartment. The numbers we can accomodate are limited, and also those with alergies need to know we have cats. Also, we will likely have two small boats along with the ship (the ship is permanently moored for those who haven't seen her). One of the small boats is a small row boat that can probaly safely accomodate up to 4 people, although 2 or 3 would seem more comfortable (going from my memory of the boat). The other is Mark's own boat, which he just bought. I think the crew capacity for that one is closer to 6(?). Last time we had the attackers in the rowboat and on a rocky outcropping attacking the ship. This will likely not change (althought he addition of the second boat may leave fewer people on the rocky outcropping depending on attendance of the event). Historical dress will be preferred, but there is a place for everyone, so all are welcome. The hours for the last demos have been from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM... while I personally would like to see this extended to 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, I don't know how likely that is to happen, so they are likely to be short days... Which only leaves more time for personal enjoyment, relaxing, and enjoying each others company. I guess that is all the rambling I can think of for the moment on this one. Like I said in the other thread, I hope to have more solid details for this in the not too distant future. Hoping to see some more of you there this time around, and hoping those who have come out to join us in the past will do so again!

Which is still in doubt until funding for the Ship's budget for the 2009 year is firmed up... I'm hoping to hear some news in the not too distant future... So far the rumours surrounding the matter are alternatively hopefuly and pessimistic. But I am very much hoping it will go well. And we would love to have you Mary, and everyone else as well!

The deal with the head scarf, is they are designed by a guy from up this end of the world... His name is Nigel (De Sade?). I have one of those scarves as well (bought it from Nigel myself). Nigel is an excellent graphic artist, and fairly prolific in the RenFaire/Pirate scene in this part of the country (and perhaps others as well?). The next fair around here is the OSU Renn-Fest, Nigel usually sets up there (or someone is carrying hsi stuff there for him)... I'll grab one for you when I am there in late April/Early May.... Is there a colour you prefer? Or if you find a quicker menas of aquiring one, please let me know.

Awww, thanks... Funny how all the best pictures of me involve me and my 100 mile stare... All I could think of when I saw that one is (in my most Austin Powers voice) "Grrr, baby, grrr!"

Regarding shifts/chemises... Cotton did exist in the GAoP, but it was still fairly rare, so while it can be PC, linen is the better choice as (in my opinion) mostly only the fabulously wealthy would have worn cotton, while everyone (rich and poor) would have worn linen. Also, I find linen breathes better than cotton in the hot weather... but that may just be me. As for the mantua, if you get a chance, do a search in the "Captain's Twill" section of the pub for the "Cryes of London"... They are basically a bunch of drawings/sketches of good ol' working class folks from the period (and other periods as well), but you will see some women in mantuas that are only knee length... Nice and easy to get around in because they don't get in the way like the longer ones do. Think of the mantua as a robe that is worn for all occassions, with longer fancier ones in pretty fabrics for balls, and shorter ones in more basic fabrics for doing work in, and everything in between.

This event has been canceled. Apparently the site is being weenies about insurance and a number of other event are bailing on this site or considering bailing... It's such a shame, I thought this event was a great concept and was very much looking forward to it.

Received my CD from Silas today. Thanks! I'll be copying all of our photos and hopefully Nick and Ashley's as well, and sending those out this coming weekend. There are some great photos in there Silas! Compliments to you and Constance for capturing some of those moments. Cheers

Well it's 12th night... And it seems some jolly freaking awesome fella with a beard left me a parcel in the box. And man, am I one happy pirate!!! I got a set of 4 tin rum cups.... And not only did I get spoiled by this secret Santa, there was a small parcel in the package for the wife as well!!! Apparently the wife gets to ration the rum out, with her new mini-flask.... So we even match! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH SECRET SANTA. Anyone know what "Ho Ho Ho" sounds like in Scottish?

You and me both.... The work volumes here have gone th way of the dodo... And of course I am too new here to take time off until things pick up... So I am left twiddling my thumbs trying to look busy and important.... If I didn't have the pub as a refuge for amusement, I would be stark raving mad with boredom.
