  1. Thanks QM James! I know it is just advice (from an amatuer but definitely well0-meaning and intelligent source), and I am heeding it... For now I am going to play nice, but once I see the insurance payout, I will have to make a decision to dispute it (hire a lawyer) or if the settlement is reasonable (at least close to blue book value of vehicle) there is not much for me to do but play the waiting game. I'm not feeling kindly disposed towards the driver that hit me getting off on the premise of a "phantom vehicle" (I like that phrase!)... And I will be following up with the police on the matter for sure, as the driver that hit me should be cited for unsafe driving (whether it is for following too close/not leaving a safe distance or something else). Evern if she swerved to miss an alleged or real "phantom vehicle" she should have been travelling slow enough to be able to stop without hitting another vehicle. Can't answer the question about the "witness statement", I will have to talk to the police before I know anything about that, so far I have just heard it from the insurer... So I am still skeptical about it.
  2. Today, I'm still feeling good... A very minor bit of stiffness in the neck... But no real pain or discomfort, and I am still doign all the little things the wife and Chirporactor advised to help prevent any serious harm from from setting in. Just got off the phone wil the other driver's insurance rep not too long ago... It seems there is credibility to the story where she was cut off. Apparently there is a witness... We'll see... I'm being cautious and guessing it might be a ploy to avoid liability... But time and the lawyers can work that out. Wow Cheeky, that is quite a story... While not as austentatious as a BMW, I was hit by an almost brand new Accord. There is almost nothing left of the Accord... I'm glad I was in my van, had I been driving my wife's civic, I might not have walked away from this. We've already started the shopping for a vehicle... we are going to base our decision on the insurance settlement and what financing we can get in the current economic climate... but the lead choices (should we have a choice) are another minivan (I do so love me my minivans, although we are considering a Honda Odyssey over a Dodge Caravan this time) or perhaps a smaller SUV (like a Honda CRV).... Again, thanks to everyone for the advise and well wishes.
  3. I sent you an email,.. But congrats again ya big oaf. He's a good looking lad, he must be someone elses... Good choice on the name! Every time wife and I have talked kids, we always agree that if we have a boy (when it is time) we were going to name him Liam, or Tristan... But regardless Liam is (was?) going to be either his first or middle name.
  4. When I was still living in Canada I was moderately politically active... One campaign I dedicated a bit of my time towards was lobbying for a ban on cell phone use in motor vehicles. I think at that time three or four Canadian provinces had implemented such laws (out of the 10 provinces and 3 territories)... And from driving to and from Toronto to Ohio to visit the wife when she was just my girlfriend I learned that New York State has such a law... I to wish more states and provinces would implement those laws.... Most of the area that have such laws will exempt those with hands free sets, so it is not infringing on the rights to use the cell phone, just encouraging safer practices while doing so. I'm getting pretty hopeful for feeling good tomorrow... An early visit to a chiropractor, and a spousal unit that used to work for said chirpractor is getting me all the care I need, and keeping me following good practices to help prevent full st in of the whiplash. Thanks to everyone for the good wishes!
  5. Her cell phone was in her hand... Driver in her teens (or maybe early 20s), driving daddy's car... so I am also fairly certain that what you think caused the accident is in fact what cause the accident... Cell phone while driving.. And I was definitely not at fault for the accident... The officer on the scene assured me of that. Shock... I doubt it, but shock is one of those things that the sufferers thereof always seem to be in denial of.
  6. So driving home this evening I was rear ended... But I am perfectly fine and unhurt... But I was hit hard enough to rotate my vehicle 180 degrees so I ended up facing the vehicle that just hit me. I was stopped on the freeway as traffic had backed up trying to get off on an exit. The girl that hit me claims she swerved to miss a vehicle that cut her off in the next lane and hit me at close to freeway speeds... She had hit her breaks, but I only heard a half of second of squeeling tires before I was hit, so she probably didn't get slowed down much by her breaks before impact. As a precaution the wife took me to the Chiropractic centre where she used to work (and her mom still works), the doctor there took some X-rays(just in case) and did an adjustment on me... I do apparently have mild whiplash, but I will be fine. My minivan will likely be written off as there were bent bits of frame showing through the body damage... Just a mere two months before I finally paid it off.... I'm strangely calm about it all. I'm also positive Insurance will cover me, and I will likely have a new vehicle of similar value as soon as that gets all sorted out.
  7. I see my name on that rather short list... But who the heck is Talderoy? It's hard to feel blessed when I am completely oblivious to the belssing?
  8. Another interesting citation about equipage.... No mention of uniform colours (although it is in reference to a "Red Regiment") Taken from the lower right hand corner Of this page of a London Gazette published in 1715. (Some typing corrections put in by me) And another good reference...
  9. Welcome Mr. McLAren, glad you were able to find your way here. Cheers.
  10. Speaking of variety, I also am making them in four colours now... Natural Veg-Tan, Timber Brown, Black, and now Cranberry Red as well. I haven't made one in red yet, but I am hoping to get to that later this week, I'll try and remember to post a pic when I do one to show the colour off. I've also been considering doing a "rust" colour (mixing the red and the brown dyes), but we'll see... As a reminder, I am still making these (as I have been for the last year and a half). My have had to go up since the cost of materials went up a bit... But now natural shot boxes are $45, and dyed ones are $50.
  11. Reposted with permission from this Forum This tent is a great deal, I'd buy it myself if I hadn't just acquired a new (to me) tent on a trade deal. In case you are worried about shipping, the owner is in the Baltimore area of Maryland.
  12. Well that depends... I am firmly intending on paying for the postage on this round... But I get the feeling there are some mutinous feelings about this practice .... So I am guessing it is a case of respect my wishes and send nothing, or make your own judgement call on whether you are going to send me a SASE or $2. I think the SASE or $2 is a discussion that may be ongoing, for the next round.
  13. Ya know, the term "cider" is a vexing one... Some people use the term cider to indicate alcoholic apple extract, and any liquid from apples that is not fermented is just apple juice. However I was raised that apple juice is all filtered and clear, apple cider is just unfiltered apple juice (what the above mentioned type of people call raw apple juice), and "hard cider" is when apple liquid has been fermented... So the above recipe may be calling for "hard cider" if the depending on the author's point of view... It's just all so darn confusing...
  14. I wouldn't read anything into not seeing or hearing mention of them... Just a week or two ago I saw a post from HellfireHannah (I think?) about shoes from two other sources in the UK that looked pretty promising as well that I had never heard of. Vendors in this hobby are popping up and dissapearing all the time so while dealing with a new vendor for the first time can be a crap shoot, it may turn out they are great. I don't know about being an "Authenticity Sensei" though... Sounds pretty foreign to me... Even Asian, like those Ninja fellas that are always getting their butts kicked by trying to off my mates and I.
  15. Okay, I should have posted this on Saturday, but the above list (my previous post) has the final list for this round of Pyrate Trading Cards. Please try to have your cards in the mail to me by May 15th at the latest, this gives all of us a full month plus a few extra days (more for those keeners that started last week). Please private message me for the mailing address as you finish, I will be mailing the cards out the day after I receive the last batch, and hope that if no one is late getting the cards to me, that way all of you should have your new collections of cards by the end of May at the latest. Cheers!
  16. I wouldn't bat an eyelash at seeing those at a GAoP re-enactment. They're actually pretty sharp shoes! That said, for those perfectionists who fret over the nitty gritty details, most of the detail that tends to seperate the earlier period shoes from the later mid-18th century shoes is in the side to hind quarters, which are completely not visible from that picture. The rather long tongure is a very good sign, but the profile of the side seam is usually one of the key details in seperating early from mid 18th century shoes... On the whole shoes are one of the items that the most leniency is given towards as there just aren't that many manufacturers, and most of the manufacturers that are trying to get it as close to possible for the GAoP, have extremely long waiting/ordering periods, or are really expensive, or both. Fugawees and/or Jardigans have kind of the de fatco standard for their comprimise in accuracy, price, and turnaround time, and you will likely find that a larger percentage of GAoP re-enactors wear the Fugawees or Jardigans than any other shoe. As for the above company, I've never dealt with them, nor have I heard from anyone who has.
  17. It looks like we'll be going. We hadn't originally planned on it being so busy prepping things for next month here in Columbus... But a small contingent of the Scioto Pirates will be out to help the cause and having some fun while at it.
  18. Another London Gazette find that I figured someone would be interested in while I was again looking for something else... Citation is from the lower right hand corner of This Page The cut and pasted text is crap and too long for me to edit right now... But there is a description of two womens mourning (morning?) gowns from 1677 (bit on the early side, but so what).
  19. It's not a reference to construction (really), nor is it made out of wood.... But I thought this was on topic and interesting enough to warrant popsting. (I found it while looking for info on a different style of box) From HERE from a facsimile copy of the London Gazzette from 1685. Some editting has been done on my part as these are done with horrible optical character recognition software that produces tons of spelling errors.
  20. Again the posts here have all been corrected, if Patirck would like to cut and past these links to the original first post, that would make it easier, but otherwise the correct links can now easily be found and used with no more troubles. Cheers
  21. I have edited the links below so they will work. If anyone has any trouble with any of the links please let me know and I will try and fix it.
  22. Yeah I am making them for sale if interested, but since this topic is suposed to be discussion rather than sales (which belongs in Thieve's Market) see your private messages.
  23. Ya knnow, I think I might try to make both the Pirate in Paradise and Fort Taylor Pirate Festivals this year... But now that I am home and have watched the video.... Awesome work MorganDrake! Loved the play with the slow and fast motion, almost made me think I was watching a John Woo film (who is one of my favourite action movie directors, so you know that is a compliment).
  24. Hey Silkie, The links are from prior to Stynky's revamp... So if you copy and paste the link, and remove the portion of the URL that says "forums" they will work correctly. For example the first link for "Common Sailor's Clothing", the old link looks like this... http://pyracy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8310, but if you edit the link in the address bar of your browser to look like this... http://pyracy.com/index.php?showtopic=8310 it will work fine. Hope this helps! I'm also looking into fixing the links so this will no longer be an issue, but that may take some time. Cheers!
  25. You're most welcome for the help (for all that it was)... As for your question, it is very subjective.... One person, may not care about boots but get bent right out of shape about stripey socks, another person might hate boots but be more than willing to overlook stripey socks... Personally, I'd be more willing to overlook the socks than the boots... But I'm only one person and not one of much consequence, specially with regards to the event you are prepping for. Contacting one of the host Crew (Blackbeards Crew) might get you the best answers on tolerance levels.
