  1. bloody pirates....... now i recall why i stayed away from social networking sites for the first 26 years of life, and why i am thinking to discoutinue all use of them after a very short time. I am never on them anyways, they are a waste of time and with all the games people play really not worth the efforts. It is a pity that people cannot use them as contact zones instead of posting major amounts of information, that they then cry about misuse when what they posted becomes the next hot news story. Sorry just my twa pence and i will be discontinuing facebook even though it seems that they maintain a right to whatever I have upoaded. However, since i cannot recall the last time i even logged on, i doubt I will be missing thier services. what this world needs to to go back to writting letters and actully talking... ye ship's potter salty
  2. fasinating subject, as a used to be archeaologist, thier culture was not totally alien to ours, it fit thie times and nature of the land. our modren society has lost the connection to the land and gods that our ancestors held. as to cannabilism, it makes more sense to make your prey walk back to camp then to run it down, kill it, and drag it back. At least the cases of sacrifice were not done just for the sake of eating human flesh. It may not make sense to us now, but it ran thier wolrd then and kept tham as safe as any set of beliefs does. Thanks for the article.

  6. 1. I dont know what purpose the gods have for me as of yet, and they are not telling. Whal i have studied all my life is not the path i find myself on now, perhaps the teaching o my subject is how I can keep it going, or perhaps I am meant to learn from my students somthing that no one else can teach. The bottom line is yes. 2. Ideally, no I do not wish to be rememberd, I wish to fade from memory as quietly as I may touching those in life as they wish to let me, and causing no sorrow or grief at passing out of thier lives. 3. As I have said before there are two dates on a headstone, the date of birth and the date of death. What truely matters most is the way you used the dash in between them. As to longing for what is yet undone, death is just another part of the journy. salty

  10. salty retreats here after a small tirade that wasn't meant to be one...... slides into an empty cushion plucks a glass of something off a tray as the cubana boy walks past and asks if any one minds the scent of a good pipe.
  11. following on syrens post, and yes that is very good reason to get freaked out, sorry it happened syren. yes men are going to look and women are going to dress in a manner that will get men to look. The problem comes when they all forget that they are adults and should be understanding the dynamics that come with that. There is no harm in cat calls or remarks made and people are sometimes way to oversensitive about it.... what pisses me off is the cases where women dress provacitivly and then cry foul when a man makes a remark or a move. but also when a man excuses his behavoir by saying that he was driven to do so because she deserved it on account of how she was dressed. I read an article some time back about a young black woman who was completly blind and raped in a shopping mall. the judge threw out the case againt the male who raped her because he said she was dressed in a manner that provoked him to do so.... the lass was dressed in a pair of jeans and a baggy sweatshirt. Point is it is easy to say someone overreacted...there may be a reason for it and excuseing it as expected behavior is not always right. other then that hey there are times that it is no quarter asked or given, how you play is up to your temperment, maturity, and most of all PRATITUDE. sorry for the soapbox it is just syrens relating her tale and my own expirences coming through. i will retreat to the womens club for now and ne'er post in the mens territory salty

  16. ok, stratight forward..... can anyone suggest books titles and authors if possible for researching and getting examples of period clothing or costume?????????? if this is posted elsewhere i am sorry i have been looking and not really finding. Thank you... I am going to sit down with a seamstress friend and start working on another set of jumps, petticoats, and an apron. I have 5 yrds of a light blue plaid wool that i am debating on making jumps or stays and a petticoat from. Some lovely cranberry red wool that will eventully end up as a set of stays and petticoat, embroidered to match in a blue colour. I dark merlot wool that i am going to have another bedjacket made from for those colder events. and an intereesting linen that is a tannish with purpe stripes vertical not horizontal ( thank you callenish). besides these projects I am hopeing just to learn my way around sewing enough to get them accomplished by end of summer. the next project is an actual ball gown...... i shudder to even think on this one so any advice books or screaming saying not what to do is always grand. the above pictures give alot to think about and come up with. thank you cap'n salty

  23. aye tis fun to be out and about in kit thinking on having two more sets of jumps made to teach in, great back support, and though the petticoats might be a bit much in a science classroom I can intergrate peices of attire into my everyday wear. sometimes it is far more comfotable to go about dressed it the clothes of a differnt age. I tend to wear ren shirts all the time because they are large and comfortable. yep i agree it is fun just to see peoples reactions as well Salty
  24. As this is an opinion topic fyne i dislike the fact that people choose to deside that there are lines in the sand in this HOBBY.....yes there are few of us that make our living at this so it stands as a hobby. There is room for all sorts of folks, families, singles, men and women it does not matter, what matters is how you choose to adapt yourself to it. That said it bothers me that there are people out there that think just because you are either PC or hollywood that you dont belong at events or in forums. that is why as i understand there are DIFFERENT forums on places like the pub.......there are places to discuss what your particular interests are and some for the coming together of the various and assundery points of veiw. if an event is PC then do the best you can to fit in, if it is a ren faire or day festival then dress to fit in there, but there are reasons that the different venues exsist. the main point of my wondering is to say that I enjoy this hobby because of all the people I have gotten to meet both online and in real life.....so thanks to all who do what you do and keep going on it... just me twa pence ye ships potter Salty
  25. aye, i kin atest ta a fyne lad in kilt wit a brouge.....nothing fyner can any one suggest a good book on proper clothing fer the time pierod????? ye ships potter Salty
