  1. It's a hand mortar, and it's designed to lob grenadoes (small clay bombs, about the size of a tennis ball).

of course, it's action was imprecise, and quite dangerous, I'm sure it didn't see a lot of use.

  2. Marty is very accessable for his fans, through his IMDB board, he's definitely a laid back, easygoing individual, who campaigns for some very good causes....

I'm not usually responsive to most celebrity charity causes, mostly because they reek of agendas......but there are a few that are worthwhile.....

Marty is really helping several young Little People, and that's an admirable cause......

now, it's easy to see why Marty's cause is for Little People (much in the same way Michael J. Fox is for Parkinsons, and Chris Reeve was for Stem Cell research), but it's not so much advocacy for himself, or HIS condition, but rather, for young Little People, who would otherwise be overlooked for adoption, in favor of average sized people.....

nice to see him put something before himself like that.......he's definitely a Little Person with a HUGE heart!

  3. It's the principle of the promotion. "Bait and switch" is still used by many companies to lure customers into their store, then the store's higher ups back out on the promises, leaving the customer/consumer up the creek without a paddle and the young kids working at the counter getting the complaints.

If no one questions these little incidentals, companies will continue to make promises and falsify advertisements and to put their employees into situations that they have no control over. It's not fair to the employees either.

What pisses me off even more is that I found out some youngin's spent some of their own allowance money on this promotion to recieve said jar of dirt and didn't...well, that is where there is fodder for the fight.

You fight for what you believe in and it's more than a jar of dirt that's involved.

    Besides, I heard it's Depp's dirt...haha

I do believe we agree with each other on this matter.....I can't remember ever disagreeing with everything you just said......

  4. Seems like a lot of fuss and bother over a prop one could make with a single trip to Pier 1 Imports and a shovel-full from the garden. Both will collect the same amount of dust in the end.

were I gonna go to such lenghts to re-create the prop, I'd want a period jar, and period dirt!

  5. good call, Jack!

I'm not THAT desperate for the jar, that I'd go to such lengths, but I do think that anybody who wanted the promo, should get what they were promised.....

of course, that time is now passed, so my guess is that the only people who will be getting the jar, are those who contact the company......

here's to your good luck!

  6. I got the 2-disc set, and the lack of the trailers, and the deleted scenes really upsets me.....

Don't fret about no deleted scenes. There are NO DELETED SCENES in the dvd, just scenes that were shortened. Everything is intact, per Terry and Ted.

Uhm, in the trailer, I distinctly remember a statement about 'almost innocent bystander' that didn't make the final cut of the film.....

  7. I'm upset about the whole 'jar of dirt' fiasco as well....

come to think of it, I'm upset about the whole bonus promotion....

I didn't get ANY bonuses, because of it.....I missed out on Wal-Mart's T-Shirt (and CD), as well as the poster available through the Disney Stores, all for the Jar.....

not that getting a bonus would've really mattered, but with so many stores running promotions, I just kinda figured someone in my area would have SOMETHING worthwhile to give away.......but alas.....

and the bonus Best Buy Disc?, pure bull, IMHO.......I think that any exclusive content should be made available to ALL stores, and all outlets......my closest Best Buy?, is two states away........

Circuit City usually does lithographs (I have a few), and they're ALWAYS NICE.......something like that would've been even better than the jar, or the DVD Game......

the Superman Returns one they did is GORGEOUS......loads of great colors (I know how the lithographic process is done, and the colors just POP!), and a DMC one of Captain Jack would've been even more fantastic!

the only litho they did, that I want and missed out on, is the V for Vendetta one.....still tracking one of 'em down.......the Star Wars ones are really nice too.....

in the end, it doesn't REALLY matter, but it is a bit grating to see all the neat things other people got (Especially the Wal-Mart CD, and the Best Buy Bonus Disc), and know that if I had just been in the right store, or bought the right version, I too, could've gotten one of 'em.....

but then, they're by no means RARE, and Ebay will likely be FLOODED with them....

  8. I got the 2-disc set, and the lack of the trailers, and the deleted scenes really upsets me.....

I'm STILL looking for the bonus disc from the first film, and now this adds even MORE to the hunt.....

I'm disappointed, and feel somewhat cheated (especially since they let advertisers buy placements on the DVD Special Features), but I still love what we DO get.......

I also hate the fact that Wal-Mart didn't package the bonus 10-song CD with the 2-disc special edition......so I missed out on THAT too.....

though, I have a friend who's sending me a copy, so that ain't too bad......

  9. I gots trophies!

anyway, back on topic, uhm, could the potter make a couple, maybe to be used as candleholders, or inkwells?

might turn out to be a good seller!

(Don't forget to put a disclaimer though, that you don't recommend they actually be filled with powder)

  10. I caught it Sunday Morning, and it was fantastic.....

a lot of time-lapse footage, but they did visit many important stages of construction.....the sailmaker was a really fun segment......

I also loved the fact that they placed a silver dollar under the mainsail, in accordance with naval tradition......

of course, it's probably smashed flat now, but it's still cool.....

  11. oh yeah, don't worry about being shot......

this is like rehab for stage pirates......don't worry, I was blissfully unaware at one time as well......

as a matter of fact, lately, I been goin' BAREFOOT rather than be caught with boots.....

don't worry, you get used to seein' buccaneers in shoes pretty quick!

  12. great pics!, I too, want a Pirate/Tiki Bar......

I saw some great stoneware Tiki Mugs while looking for Antiques this past week.....I'll have to pick 'em up sometime.....

I want more of a "Pirate" look though, which means more rum (and Captain Morgan Items), as well as parrots, and Jimmy Buffet type stuff......

but I think it'll be fun, when I finally get started on it......

unfortunately, I must first relocate to a new place, as I have no room to do it where I currently live.......

  13. I've got friends who have explosive ordinance licenses (they're demolitions experts for the US Special Forces), and they expressed interest in creating some clay grenades, to see just how they explode....

I may direct 'em to this thread (and the other one), so they can check things out.....

  14. Cool, I picked my copy of "The Pirates" up at an antique mall, no other volumes were there (not surprising, since this is the volume that sells the series, and so was produced in greater quantity)....

nonetheless, it's a great book, full of great pictures.....I really learned a lot!
