  2. Beer lovers rejoice!

This has just been added to the event...

    On Saturday...

Noon-3pm – 1st Annual PIP BUBBA Homemade Brew Fest at Village Thieves’ Market. Brewers from around the country will compete for the title of PIP BUBBA Homemade Brewer of the Year. Purchase a PIP BUBBA Taste Cards at the PIP PIRATE PUB & INFO BOOTH & vote for your favorite brewer! Info, 305.296.9694 or email Info@PiratesInParadise.com. It is expected that over 100 brews will be available for tasting during the competition.

    Other notes:

The National Walk the Plank Championships have been officially moved over to the Truman Waterfront, where it will be joined by the Tryal of Anne Bonny and Mary Read, the First Annual Tall Tales Contest, and my personal favorite, "Coloring with Uncle Don", a new kids event led by Don Maitz where kids will be coloring one of his original pieces of art.

The newest schedule is now posted at http://www.piratesinparadise.com/schedule/index.html

More and more coming every day it seems.

  3. I am being reminded of that by my crew daily, dear Captain. I had almost forgotten that there was one.

Even after a dozen or so visits to KW over the years, I have still never made it to Hemingway's home (still hoping to keep that record intact) and I really want to finally get to the East Martello Museum which has such fascinating stuff to see, including that possessed doll, Robert. And I haven't been to BOs Fish Wagon in something like three or four years. Egad, where has the time gone?

Between the fort, the Thieve's Market area and the town, I haven't yet figured out when there is to be sleep. :)

  4. I must say I haven't been to downtown in the last three years at any time during PiP. So, I'm anxious to spend a lot of time there this year, reconnecting with other aspects of the festival and doing a little Duvall Crawl with me mates who will be in town.

  5. Had a crew mate ask a question for clarification in the powder rules.

Understand the powder flask issue (I remember the one that went lost there one year, loaded), but what about shooting from chargers instead of cartridges. Some of us in the buccaneer era use the chargers/apostles. Are these still going to be allowed? I know some of us have never shot with cartridges ever, and have a lot more confidence in the chargers.

Let me know so I can let them know.

  6. As a clarification, is this for everyone who will be visiting the fort but not camping as well? I've had some questions about that from those hoteling.

I assume it's like last year that anyone participating at the fort needs to fill one out regardless of where they set their aft quarters at night. Correct?

  8. Ahoy all! An update!

Just found out that the WOLF will be doing the bulk of her sailings from the Truman Annex Pirate's Village and Thieve's Market Wednesday through Sunday during the festival.

We are expecting around 30 to 50 vendors in the Market now that Suzi has taken over the management of it and the new Pyracy Pub is underway as well there, right next to the stage.

It's going to be a great event this year!

  9. It looks like the WOLF and the National Walk the Plank Championships will be at the Pirate's Village and Thieve's Market this year instead of at the historic seaport.

Spectator viewing will be aboard ship and on the Mohawk as we bring the righteous contestants aboard and send them to their watery graves. Who will be ascending to the crown of Champion this year now that D'ogge has been retired as Grand Champion (until some wins four at least).

  10. Does anyone have an update on the camping situation? We're only two months away and I am getting asked (offline through piratesinparadise.com) if there is any room to camp. I had a crew today say they were coming down to camp at the fort, thinking it's like last year and had to tell them that camping is limited this year. Is it full? Is there an update? And who do they contact via email so I can just get them off my plate and onto someone else's?

  11. Gotcha, that makes a lot of sense, Jas. Thanks for the clarification. Love the tips by the way. I have some other pieces that I don't like the shine on and don't want to wait for time to take its course.

    -- Hurricane

  12. I'm not sure how that adds to the period nature of the piece. I have had a brass hilted cutlass for 30 years now. It has been dropped into the salt water, been buried in the sand, been left out in the weather, left in the bilge of a ship - just about anything a regular weapon would have undergone and the hilt is still brass in color. If I recall, it was the duty of all sailors (pirates, et al) to keep their weapons in top condition, which would mean 'like new' in most parlance.

    Am I missing something here?

  13. Sounds like she visited Pirates Adventure in Florida and stole the idea. They closed Dixie down here because it couldn't compete with the other dinner shows in the area, and of course, The Mouse.

  14. Sorry to hear that lad. Thought it may end up that way. After OSC we hit the Wine Bar in Winter Park and were the usual centers of attention there (the only ones in costume always helps). We were invited to go to Redlight Redlight but had a little too much of the grape to wish further imbibement with a 2 hour drive back to the housienda.

    Good times at OSC though.
