Afterthought... There are many groups (performers and living history) that participate at reenactments that MUST have proof of group insurance prior to being juried/asked to an event. Proof must be sent with their application(s). In the past 15 years, I've seen more and more events requesting proof of insurance. It doesn't matter if you have 5 or 150 people in your group...the event coordinator(s) want you to be covered. I know that KISH (1880s Wild West Group) that I'm a part of must make sure that we are responsible for our horses and guns. Unfortunately, it's been tough for reenactor groups to find insurance companies to cover them. Though, I do know that the NRA has several differnt policies if you are a card-carrying member.

- Though I am flattered by your suggestion, Lady B...I'm not sure that I am what 'most' Seafaring men want? What Pirate Sirens contest, Matt? This is the first I've ever heard of it. Does your publication do this every year?

Wondering if this season...the Captain of the Archangel will known as Pyro-Pryate Sterling

Thank you dearly BlackJohn! I was really trying to make sure that my Lilly was much better looking than my indentured black-toothed servant, Bess... Maybe the kids won't run away from Lilly as much as they do when Goodie (sic) Hagardy is around. It must be the blackened teeth and showing them that she was branded in the hand!

Yes, Dutchman...is there a way of making your photo any bigger? (Lilly waving from the docks)...I can bearly see you!

Captain Sterling.... Regarding the 'props' of Lilly/Diver/Bess....package will be sent out within the next week. Please look for a custom built corrugated box just like the last time for the tobacco...(GRIN)... The Guys in Design and CADD love me! Cheeky -
Not to worry Rats, we'll be able to meet up on Friday and help set up the Tavern. It will be great to see your Pryratical self once again. Question, I plan to bring a few tavern games for the public (especially the kids to learn)! Cards, and Skittles...just to name a few.

Sorry for 'running' away with this thread - but here you go Silkie! Here is a picture of a late 17th century Coffeehouse with 'Mistress' at the bar. Take a look at her attire. Note her dress. I am sure that you could very well carry such a look.

Let's see....our ladies sewing, stitching, and weaving.... Making and taking note,.... sewing, drinking, laughing...ya, we're getting there! -
Well... funny you should ask Silkie...and thank you Rumba Rue (I wouldn't tell a soul!)... The real reason behind these items did have a purpose. These patches or "recleuses" were frequently applied to the face and body to cover smallpox scars, acne and similar marks. The patch grew in popularity over the course of the 17th century and into the 18th century. What 'Type' of women? Well, any women who considered herself 'fashionable' I suppose. Those who would be the 'in crowd' - Royal Court culture and the like...the don't forget...one would 'ape' one's betters!

Here is just an example of the look of Court (Late 17th Century) Here, I wear a Fur de Lis next to the corner of my eye and a small heart next to the corner of my mouth. I have an assortment of shapes (period correct) and if you are interested, please contact me via PM here on the pub. Thank you.

It been a while since I posted any thing new here. Therefore, I decided to post the gown I wore at RF4 in Arlington Heights, IL - Chicago this past February. In my hurry to take said photos, I realized that I am lacking my shift. Darn, don't know where I put it, either. Perhaps I left it 'somewhere' My compliments to Captain John Sterling for his wonderful work on my beautiful gown. The ball gown is made of purple silk taffeta with ice blue dupioni silk, trimmed with linen lace of white and silver braid and ice blue gems. Next...my attempt with hair and make-up of the time period "Beauty patches": star-, crescent-, moon-, and heart-shaped silk or velvet patches worn as comouflage, sometimes a dozen at a time, by women (to cover scars let behind by acne or the pox). The patches (*mouches) have been used as a form of silent signal, The one near my mouth states that I am willing to flirt and the at the corner of my eye means passion or a Mistress. The hair was a bit tricky, I used a hair rat to give the lift I needed for my brangs and in the front to support the slight tilt of the Fontage/Commode. I did use several hair pieces to add volume and to achieve the over-all look of the style. The pale white face was achieved with 'Geisha White' foundation and translucent rice powder. And for the final touch, 'Tulip' cut lips of red - giving the mouth a smaller more delicate look.

So far, so good, keep the orders coming lads and lasses and thank you!

As Lilly left the professor’s shop, she quickened her pace once more. Now that she had the remedy in her possession, she found herself clutching the parchment in her pocket, repeatedly, just to make sure it was still there. Down the narrow alley and back towards the docks she went, her feet now flying as she made her way back to Nelly’s house. The air was heavy now. Perhaps it was just her heart that was feeling that way. Lilly thought back to her sea-faring Captain lying helpless in his bed as the fever took him. If he were to expire from his dreadful beating, she would not know what to do. However, she could not think the worst. There were other things to think about and discuss once he did reclaim his strength. She soon found herself in front of Nelly’s garden gate. As she looked up at the house, she could make out no light coming from any of the windows. Surely they had not retired to leave the captain all alone, she thought to herself. Even if the day had been hectic and far from the norm. She slowly opened the garden gate and went to the kitchen door. She found it, once again, left unlatched awaiting her arrival. Inside, she found Sally tending the fire and warming the kettle. “Good,” Sally whispered. “They are still waiting for you upstairs.”

Crazy weather here in NE Wisconsin. Between the heave thunder boomers we have been getting at night and the cold windy weather in the day (with sun...smattered about), it would be nice to see a day in the mid-70s. I'd be in a better state of mind right now....need to motivate meself.... Come on Spring...I know you're out there!!!!
-
^Clearing the yard of old brush (Burn Baby Burn!). Well, I should be out there preparing the flower beds...but it's been far too cold. Spring has been here for at least three (3) weeks and it's still freezing out! < I wonder if we'll ever have Spring this year...rain and snow so far. V Passing along the question.
