^ My 30th birthday party that my boss at work gave me. It was more of a birthday lunch...he also took me to a really nice restaurant, had a cake and flowers waiting, plus a card that said I could have one day off with pay! Those were the days! < Still trying to recover after the lovely weekend I had at Bristol Ren Faire.. V Passing the question along.

Oh let me do that... I have been wanting to do that for months now... Lilly looking at Sterling. "Here, what's this?! Why on earth would you want to cause me pain? Don't I do that enough for the both of us?" Oh Dutchie! Have a care how Captain Sterling helps you. With that bad eye he cannot judge distance very well...or size.

Perhaps I'll stop at the local Hunting/Fishing store and pick up a few for B-Town. Though Bess is not a healer by trade, she would know some 'wise-woman' cures. I can just see their faces now as you and I put leaches on them...
-
Ooo! Very nice job of it Ransom and Dutchie! Hope you two had a lot of fun. Splendid!

Cheeky, I should also mention that I had a few "Reach for a Leech!" moments throughout the day....the other pirates thought I was nuts. Oh Kate...Do tell! I am sure we all would enjoy the stories. I couldn't bear to leave the ship and 'work the docks' without you though....it's just not as fun to lick windows alone.... Fear Not, Kate! If Bess shows up at B-Town (NC event come this August) I am sure that working the docks (clearing throat - raising ones eyebrows) and licking "the devil's ordinary" windows for a free meal will be quite the thing to get the locals attention.

A Great Success!! It was definitely a sight to see this past weekend at the Bristol Renaissance Faire located on the Wisconsin/Illinois boarder where the several committee members of Reenactor Fest along with a handful of wonderful people (Thank you so much for everyone’s help running up and down the time line)! MadL, The test shows both the strong side and the weak side of the four (4) humoural types in percentages, so if you were: 35% strong in Melancholy - that means have have a 65% weak side to it. Then you can go to the link that shows the positive side and the negative side of each of the four humoural types. You want to look at the score that has the higher percent - this will give you your more dominate trait.

Here is an interesting find! There was actually a Cult of melancholia during the 17th century. This curious cultural and literary cult of melancholia arose in England about the early 17th Century. The religious upheaval and uncertainty caused by the English Reformation and the church paying a greater attention to the topics of sin, damnation and salvation let to this effect. There was a resurgance of this phenomenon, though not under the same name, during the Romantic Period (roughly 1820s thru 1840s).

Interesting note about smallpox...yet, Mistress Lilly's child passed under "dubious circumstances" For those who are interested on learning more about their own traits, Here is a link: Are you a Melancholy Baby?

I have to thank you, Mission for putting the 'leech' subject in my crawl and posting the link to the letting site. As I stated in the blog, though the conversation about leeches started with a comical tone, it really got me thinking about the subject about health in the 17th Century; both physcial and mental well-being). ...and with my character development regarding the passing of her child...this would address the issue of melancholy and mental well being. Hmmm, perhaps I will start looking into Asylums (Bedlam) of the time period?! Though, I am under the mind-set that even though leech use my have fell out of favor during the 1680 to 1730s, I do find it hard to believe that it stopped all together. In my seach on the web, I did come across a lovely picture of a "Blood Letting Chair" from the 1680s. Damn if I can find it now?! I will see if I can find it today.

Thought you'd get a kick out of it, Kate! Glad you liked it...and I hoped that it was somewhat informative.

Interesting insight regarding mental health issues during the 17th Century. Melancholy Baby

The night drew on. The evening's air hung heavy as Lilly lingered by the Captain's bed. She was hopeful, yet Lilly hoped that Nelly would venture off to her own bed...that was not the case. There, on the other side of the bed, Nelly sat peering up once in a while to make sure that Lilly was still there. From time to time Croaker looked on him. It had became a waiting game for all of them. Lilly could only think about finding time alone with the Captain. She needed to have a private word with him...and NOT within the prying eyes of Nelly Greene.
