I’m gargling with salt water as of the moment…but I AM NOT drinking it. ICK!

My throat feels horrible. It started as stuffy nose and a feeling of fullness in my right ear. The when I awoke this morning my throat was on fire and I have very little voice to speak of. This becomes a bit of a problem seeing that half my day I spend talking to people on the phone or paging. Damn it hurts!

Great shot of Captain Sterling, Micky, Shaun and others; fighting over the treasure from Blackbeard's crewe. The photo was taken by Jon Beard Great Shot!

‘Twas a grand weekend for all who went down to Deltaville, VA this past weekend. Blackbeard’s Crew was kind enough to invite The Crewe of the Archangel to help entertained as well as educated the public who came out to enjoy the event. The day with filled with demonstrations of cooking, weaponry, clothing, crime and punishment, along with the well loved ‘school for the scallywags’. Not to mention a simulated cat fight with the one and only, Madame Grace. I’m taking pictures of the bruises…yes, I am proud of my battle scares! Pictures will be forthcoming! I personally would like to say, ‘thank-you’ to the Blackbeard’s Crew for the invite along with the most gracious hospitality. You are all a very entertaining lot and I’d love to do more events with ye!

Well, tomorrow is October 1st....which I like the call the first TRUE day of Fall. There is something about the warm days and purple pink skies of a fall evening that truly makes me long for my New England homeland. Tonight, a cool 46 degrees and tomorrow...Sunny and cool about 68.

I am greatful that since I've moved here to Wiscosin, at least I see the four seasons. This time of year we can drive up north to Door County. This is only a 3 hour drive and we are in the heart of what is known as, "The New England of the Midwest".

No Mission... Perhaps I should go first. Just let me see if I can pull out some of my grandmother's old letters (Grandmother McKinney) she use to write about a few things that happened 'Up North' near VT, NY borders in late fall and winter.

Now with the lovely Autumn season upon us, can anyone tell me their favorite halloween tale (Regionally Related) from where you grew up as a kid? Now, this doesn't mean those Urban Legends that we hear all the time (the mad ax murder or the Hitchhiking Bride/Traveler) I mean something that is very interesting, very cool and very well...lore based in your area. Now go...seek out your most interesting and scarey local tale and share them here!

While reading the Pub (Beyond Pyracy section) this morning, I saw "Doc" had posted something on the Bannerman's Island/Pollepel Island on the Hudson River. Growing up in New York for most of my life, and my Father from the Albany area, I grew up hearing tales of local lore and legends. Some of these tales have been made famous by Washington Irving. With Halloween just around the corner, I picked up a book called, " Myths and Legends of Our Own Land Vol. 1". These are tales of the New England/Delware area from the early settlement times. This book mentions Bannerman's/Pollepel Island and the awful Heer of Dunderberg, not to mention the Flying Dutchman, which like many other vessels sank south of the island in the early 1700's. In fact, the ruins of these ships seem a fitting tribute to the highlands' spooky legacy.

Cheeky looks over at the Captain.... "Do ye have any clue, Captain?" -
Rats, I do remember purchasing a bottle of Mount Gay Rum on our way to the Pyrate encampment. Known to be the oldest rum in Barbados. It's history dates back to as early as 1663, making it one of the world's most earlier brands of rum. Very period correct. Another Damn Good Port is Warre’s! The oldest British-owned Port house, Warre's was founded by two young entrepreneurs, Clarke and Thornton, in 1670. These two adventurers were out to make their fortune in Portugal, following the marriage of King Charles II to Catherine of Bragança. The pair settled in Viana do Castelo, a town at the mouth of the River Lima in northern Portugal, not that far from Bragança itself. Relations between France and England were deteriorating, and this included an embargo on French goods, naturally including wine. They set about taking advantage of the situation by establishing trade between England and their new home. Woollen goods and dried cod came from England, in exchange for local products, typically the wines of northern Portugal. With the Anglo-French War in 1689, which was acted out not only in Europe but North America also, there was an even greater demand for their goods. The two businessmen looked further inland for sources of wine, their combined gaze settling on the wines of the Douro. And so it was that the firm that would one day be Warre's began trading in the wine that would one day simply be referred to as Port. I recently tried Warre's Warrior Special Reserve Port at Bristol. It as a good nose, wonderful mild taste for a tawny port. Doesn’t have a bite like some of the more ‘mature’ ports. I think the Captain liked it too.
