  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you make a wedge tent out of a rectangle piece of canvas, 2 pole on both ends tied down and rope for the ridge? Then drape the canvas over the "rope ridge" and presto its a tent. Is the canvas just to heavy? I will be expirimenting later on.

  2. Well after much deliberation I and my wife are going to be joining the careening camp. We were going to try and get some clothes and hats made but alas I believe buying a house has to come first.

So with that out of the way I wanted to get more involved with the discussion and ask, what kind of "set decoration" might we need? We will most likely be driving from Orlando. I plan on renting a car for the drive so I probably bring down some bigger items. What kind of crates and boxes might we need? Just let me know I'll try to see if I can make them. Just let me know!

  3. Can anyone take some pictures of making a fabric button? I'm not quite visualising the process right.

PS I must be a thread killer. Most of the threads I start and then answer back on just get killed. I haven't been on in a few days and look this one blossoms into something good.

  4. So I made my first all linen shirt and I love it. I wish I would have made these from the beginning. So on to the questions.

What would be the most appropriate way to close the sleeves and neck? Currently I have nothing on the neck and buttons for the sleeves. Would ties be more accurate? If so how long should they be? What kind of ties? I would try and sew up a couple of small tubes out of the same material.

  5. Version 10 or 14.

I know that the designs look nice and crisp on the computers but when you sew it or paint it gets nice and gritty. That what happened to my designs anyways.

Here's a thought. Maybe we can get a bunch mass produced and be able to sell them to the public as keepsakes? I don't know might be a way to raise a little cash for PiP.

(although WHY you'd want to leave lovely Florida in February, I'll never know... blink.gif )

For the snow of course! ;) We don't get thtat to much down here but seriously. I think I will be in cali for those dates this year. I will have to plan for next year. Thanks.

Wow those painting are gorgeous. Almost as good a photographs. You can see the texture of the fabric.

      Well I'm 6'1"...

Amanjiria, the photo was taken at the Reenactors' Market at Coventry earlier this year.

Not to pull off topic here, but CRAP! Thats in the UK. I guess I won't be able to make it there for a awhile. Anything like that state side? Its hard to find decent patterned material here. I found a dicount fabric store and they have some stuff but I'd like to be more period with my fabrics when I can.

That was his "long, curly, dark hair and miniskirts" stage if I remember correctly... ohmy.gif

    I'm a bit scared. I don't think I want to know.

  8. "Freebooter" Jack (myself)

    Brig (My wife)

    Nea (My Mom)

    Robert (My Dad)

So thats it tentatively for now, in the careening camp. If I can get in as a vendor we might just stay in our merchandise tent if that's allowed. But I want to have options if I get get "lazy" B)

  9. Well, I certainly hope the fort gets its much needed face lift. Then maybe we can set up inside there some day. Maybe taking the whole encampment outside will work? If all the vendors are outside and the encampment is inside, I don't thinjk there will be much traffic inside. (or vise a versa) Just reserve the inside for the pub.

Yes I brought down a whoole bunch of pyrates for this year. Although for next year I'm going to let everyone go on their own. It was just to much work, but never fear I will recruit as many as I can to come. (Besides were else are they going to wear such snazzy cothing  )

As for the camp I certainly want to come and hopfully bring the parents along. They currently do 1850's, so the 1700's will be a nice change of pace for them.

To Harry, I think I remember seeing that there was campers and tents set up away from the fort? or am I dreaming? Maybe some campsites could be made for those not involed with the encampment but participating?

  10. How about

    "The Fancy"

Sounds to much like the other end of Duval st.

Just kidding Greg, I mean no offense. I couldn't pass it up.

Back on topic. I like the Damned Compass. It may be a little PoTC but that might be a good "hook" for the public. Help them start to relate to what we are presenting. The most exposure of pirates for the public has been those movies. It might just help. Just my 2 pieces of eight.

  11. Yep, I can't wait for next year. We'll probably do the canvas and oar thing. I liked that idea. I plan on just buying a whole bunch of it and sewing it together.

So I saw there wasn't a camp fire this year. Aside from it being blazingly hot was there any other reason for not having one? It would be a great smell to have in the fort.

Oh, oh, my mom makes a great stew for putting over fire. She uses it for when she does interpertation out at Westville.

Her and my dad are planning on coming next year.
