  1. Patrick... you just depicted an actual White Trash Fur co. gathering... minus the bucc. garb! That's what we're famous for! PETA won't come near us, hell we'd eat them too if we couldn't find enough GOOD meat! Don't let my normaly civilized grammar fool ya! I'm White Trash Ozark hillbilly backwoods all the way! :) At one of the events I attend here at Truman Dam every year, last fall after tourist time was over I was driving home to shower and grab some more stuff for the next days demonstration, and hit a button buck about 200 ft. from the entrance. Next day it was cooking over my campfire for the days grub! Some of the organizers had a fit, but hey...they have it in writing that ..."we encourage all displays of authentic woods-lore."... so I called them on it! It is a big event that the whole area gets involved in , and I was in my longhunter garb, standing on the road shoulder feild dressing the thing with my longknife in the headlights of my truck while about thirty or so vehicles drove by! I was in longhunter heaven and will remeber it as long as I breathe. THIS is White Trash Fur co. defined! They'll probably change the wording before next years event, but that will be seen and dealt with in it's time! Not fantasy at all mate!!! Later...Capt. Bo
  2. HEAT!!! A plumbers propane torch will work fine, and a little 0000 steel wool will bring back the color. Be careful not to burn the wood. You will nee to bend the guard off the grip, and keep it up until you get the right fit. Fortunately, i have both a coal forge and a propane farriers forge in my shop, but not everyone does, so use the cylinder type. Also, don't over-heat the metal or it will melt ! Just enough to seeit begin to turn red. Good luck! Capt. Bo
  3. Thanx ... If I'm gonna carry one it has to be functional. That's the way I am. I appreciate your feed back and will be looking at some different options. The French boarding cutlass that has a hangar type hilt is my second choice. Anyone have any dealings with Brothersmith that can rate their products for me? Patrick... some of that Taiwan metal is VERY brittle! Take care not to over do it when hammering as the blade may cack all the way through. Haeting it up could help, but that also takes the temper from the steel, making it more likely to bend there. Bo
  4. Hey... I know that guy! He's been peddlin' crap allo'er the place! I've got a REAL Indian tomahwk... they stamped their name in it too! INDIA Haw Haw Haw... later, Bo
  5. Here's what I was looking at...cutlass I kinda like it, what' your oppinion? Not too pricey either. 54.95 + s&h Says not intended for hard duelling, but good for theatrical and re-enactment sword play.
  6. Thanx Beaufort! I'll try to get ahold of Braze, if I fail I will call on you though! I didn't know Dixie was offering a kit gun for blunderbuss! That's just cool. :) The latest catalog I have of theirs is 2003, and they list some parts, but I didn't see the barrels or kit guns. Have fun and best of luck... Capt. Bo
  7. Good ta be knowin yer Captain! Rum if ye please sir, and the next on me.
  8. Yup! I'm 44 and mine did that last month...like to have killed me too! If it weren't for my Blondiewench, I'd have blown it off as just a bad cramp and died. I'm a stubborn rogue!
  9. I'm in favor of time frame as well. Just keep me posted on when so I can be on track before I start sewing! I hink I have all but a cutlass covered. I don't want to put out alot for something that I'll be using for re-enactments, so I was looking at brothersmiths "pirate utlass". Would this be acceptable? It's not the fancy engraved big bowl type, just a simple wide bow guard, wood handle job. Something I wouldn't mind if it got all beat up in a swordfight. Feedback? Capt. Bo
  10. images Found this while googleing for blunderbuss images. May be some good resource material. Capt. Bo
  11. Yeah, and they said Shrek was'n't a satire of Disney either! Capt. Bo
  12. I was looking in the Track of the Wolf cat. and they offer a french type 'c' lock that was used from 1680- 1720. this is one of the components I was considering for the Blunderbuss project. Flintlock/ Doglock transition period is in this time frame, and because the flintlock was considered inferior to the Doglock, it took far longer to "make the scene" than the transition from flint to cap. At any rate, todays manufacture seems to be in reverse. the Doglocks I have seen in operation simply do not impress me in their function. I want reliability first, and as I said, this period was the transition from Doglock to Flintlock. I'll be going the Flint route myself. As soon as I figure out this picture thing, I'll post my first build project of several years ago. it was intended to be an early 1750's trade gun, but I believe it could go earlier as it is a cut down or "carbine" length with a sort of Dutch looking stock. I had to replace the cheap Italian lock I originally used, with an L&R early trade type lock that is very plain and very reliable. The musket resembles several early 1700's pieces I've seen . Capt. Bo
  13. Do I load from the camera or from my folder? So far I haven't even been able to e-mail from the folder. I know ... I'm a dummy... but I am tryin ta learn! Man... I'm gonna be in soooooo much trouble when Blondiewench sees all the gear stretched out allo'er the house :) Well... she shoulda married better I reckon! Capt. Bo
  14. Welcome... I've not been long 'ere meself, and should of made me welcome sooner M,lady. Fergive me tardiness in salutations and allow me ta purchase yer pleasure in drink. Capt. Bo
  15. Back yer sails laddie! No need ta be thunderin in! Buy a round and visit a spell, then ye be seein the true nature of things as have I in me short time "ere. Tis more of a family of bretheren and kindred spirits than that of cutlass slashin marderers... UNLESS it need come ta THAT! :) Welcome and rum fer this bum! Capt. Bo
  16. Back to the topic of the Buccaneer Project... I've decide to begin my kit in the latter part of the GAoP as well. I always come about late nyway... ( ie 8tracks went out after I got a bunch... cassettes... VHS... ETC ) Anyhow, as soon as I learn how to use the camera and scanner on this thing, I'll run up some photos of my existing kit pieces to see what will work and what I need to come up with. I just got this thing back in November and have no previous experience with computers. Teaching myself as I go, and slow going it is! My sister is coming to visit this month and she's going to hold Computer 101 classes with me here in the house so hopefully I'll be able to share more info soon. Later... Capt. Bo
  17. Whoooeee! Is it gettin hot in here or is it just me!?!
  18. I got shot by my sister when I was twelve and we kept it secret til two years ago! (I'm 44!)
  19. Thanx for the feed back! I've got the time as I'm recovering from surgery and cannot go back to work for some time. I'm new here, so where do I find Braze? It won't be "the showcase" but I'd like it to look the part anywhere. I got some input over in Twill on another thread, and I've just about convinced myself to go ahead with the complete rebuild on cherry with brass furniture. Still like to here some others thoughts. Thanx again mates!
  20. Wish I'd known sooner mate! If I could quick-time it don the Mississippi in the canoe I certainly would! :) Maybe next one! Capt. Bo
  21. The butt of the stock is shaped like a Hawken minus the cheek piece, and doesn't guage thick enough to turn it into a "trade gun " style like I've seen originals. The lock is one of CVA's standard tiny Spanish flint locks, only this one actually throws sparks! But it also has the cheesy stamped engraving of I don't know what. It has a small rifle btype brass trigger guard that looks like the one on a Philidelphia Derringer. It was quite a novelty piec, but the smooth tapered round brass barrel is very authentic, and it just bugs the hell out of me! I might be able to salvage the stock, but it is curly Maple, and also not very authentic to the time period. I've almost convinced myself to mount it in cherry, or walnut. It's just that I'm also the "if it works-don't fix it" type. AHHHRRRRGGGH! What to do what to do!?!
  22. Kankee thindly! ure a goller ana shentleman! Capt. Bo
  23. Welcome! Rum fer tis bum! Enjoy yer voyage! Capt. Bo
  24. I rode to Abilene Kansas on my Sportster and don't remember doing it!
  25. With pleasure Miss Merry... I be camped between the two big lakes 'ere in "misery",(Mo.), and travel the big rivers mostly, the Missouri and Mississippi, and can be found wanderin into the french fot Du Chartres, and cousin Nathan Boones home near Defiance, Mo. Ive been doing mostly F&I, and Rev War events fer the past eight years, and have decided to expand me horizons and try me hand at pyracy fer a spell. Mind ye I'm just dippin the toes here, but so far likin what I'm seein. It be a family affair, me she-mate blondiewench and arr three offspring- ages 5, 7 , an 14. We all particicpate, and are lookin ta come out an play wi' some friendly folk. Me Missus has cleared me fer sailin these waters and it's OK ta make freindly as long as i don't stray from home port! Don't wish ta make ye late, but ask what ye will. I've got time on my hands. Capt. Bo
