  1. Heres a nice upper end outfit I just traded for... Coat is sold! The weskit is a brocade that looks like Gramma's dining room chairs, and is lined in a wine colored faux satin like material. The shirt is hand laced and closes by hook and latch at throat, button links at cuffs, and has a cravat too. I want to go with seamans clothing for my son and myself, so am selling this rig to offset costs. $55 and I pay shipping. Prefer to sell together, but might consider seperating. PM me for details if intrested.(sz. 38-40 )
  2. I appreciate the plight of the traders, but I don't see where sending a few kids home with some thing to remember the day by would impact the sales of the vendors all that much. Taking this into consideration though, if we do, it should be done as a "reward" for participation on some level, and not just handing them out to every passerby. This way, we don't go in debt trying to be too freindly, and the impact to the vendors would be minimal.
  3. Awhile back I asked for input as to what I should do with my old CVA Blunderbuss kit gun. I decided not to rebuild from scratch after all, and am in the process of re-shaping the stock. Here's what I started with... I will post photos of the project as I complete steps. Right now the final stain coat is drying in the shop. I'll put it partially together later to show the difference in it to date. Here is phase I... More to come...
  4. Here ya go- 1730 Scottish Smallsword, scabbard, and hand-made Baldric. I gave $235 plus shipping for the sword & scabbard only. I made the Baldric form hand-woven webbing from Becky's Loom,(Inkle weaving), and black leather. this is the "real-deal", not a denix blade. Fully functional and very well balanced. I want a Schiavona, so I'm letting this one go for $225, and I pay shipping. PM me if intrested.
  5. As far as I can remember, the only weskits with short tails I've ever seen at re-enactments are on Cavalry or Mounted Officers uniforms. I haven't or don't recall seeing any in the civilian impressions. However the outer coats are still long-tailed with the exception of the mid 18th century and later Dragoons and Rangers, who went with the short tails.
  6. Wha' happened to yer hair mate!?! As always Mr. Hand... very well done sir!
  7. Don't know what's wrong with your stock that it can't be made into a boat/canoe gun, but the Bess stock isn't wide enough to take a blunderbuss barrel, unless you can find an old .69 caliber brass CVA barrel. I have a complete unit, but won't part with it. It may be made to fit the Bess stock though. I would suggest saving a while longer and look at Loyalist arms blunderbuss at around $550 I think it was.
  8. Aye, and if you're dead set on ebony I'd tack on another 500 to the price. It is getting near impossible to get, and extremely difficult to work with. ya may want to consider something else.
  9. DAMMIT! I just got here... they can't take that away! I'm with ye mates all the way! Where do we point the guns!?!
  10. Well if it doesn't make you a pirate, it still makes you a role-model! Aye, it's a thankless job... but it has ta be done. :)
  11. And what kind o' lubber I be!?! I should think to return the favor, as yours is very well done itself... I nominate Charity....
  12. Bloody Jack Madd... you forgot the thrift store cowboy hat stapled into a tricorn!
  13. Why thankee Luv! But the credit must go to Captain Bloodscalp who put it together for me. :)
  14. Well, I just got into this pyrate thing a couple months ago, but back in the early eighties, my best freind and I took a rental canoe,(borrowed without asking) , and paddled out to a party around a pontoon and crashed it, drank as much beer as we could, made off with a couple of drunken floosies and left in THEIR boat. Does that count?
  15. Awww c'mon Patrick... I know you've Pyrated SOMETHING off the net, or at least took a government ink pen or something!
  16. OK, this is out there. I was standing in line at the supermarket earlier, and I always read the tabloid headlines to kill time while waiting.(just to see how long we've got to live before the bat boys from hell arrive! ) Any how, one called the "GLOBE" I think, had a story about the Kennedy kid that crashed his plane in the Atlantic, with a cover photo of him getting into his plane. I had to look twice to be sure, but guess what he was wearing? A Pyrate T-shirt from the WHYDA museum! Yep! Skull and bones and all! I just thought that was really cool. He must have been a cool guy in spite of bein a Kennedy!
  17. You've all been very kind, thank you. I do want to point out that Gus was my FOUR legged friend, but I held him in higher esteem than most two legged creatures. He was quiet, loyal and faithful to us always, and a better dog I've never known. Just so that everyone realizes that Gus wasn't human in body, he was more human in spirit than most people I've met. Thanks again everyone.
  18. From all my reading thus far, the Spanish were THE target of Pyracy in the Atlantic and Carribean/Gulf waters. It wouldn't have been a bad idea for them to have formed a privateer bunch to recover some of the losses! Seems like they just never got it with the things on this side of the pond. They never succeeded in colonizing North America considering how long they had control of the large area they did. Even when France ceded the Louisiana Territory after the F&I conflict, virtually nothing happened in the 40+ years it was under their control. It would be intresting to hear their take on these things.
  19. Capt. Bob, some of this was covered under the dental hygene thread below. I can't give any further details other than soap of various types has been around well before the GAoP, but how often it was used...? I'll leave the rest to folks that know.
  20. Thank you Jim. I couldn't believe I had any tears left for stuff like that, but damned if they didn't come right out. It was a tough evening for my 14 year-old son and me. Clayton was very fond of the ol' buggar too, so we just dug and cried together til it was done. Hope that don't take away from the pyratey image, but he was the best kind of dog to have around.
  21. Thank you. He will be sorely missed, and fondly remembered.
  22. Funny you should say so, I just noticed myself a subtle change. I just buried my old Gordon Setter, Angus 'Gus' McGoof. I always look angry, but right now it's a sadness. Maybe it's showin up in the photo? Anyhow, if it starts cryin', just take no notice. It'll be OK when the healin starts.
  23. Forgive me folks but it's turned in to a sad day around here. My old freind of many years, Angus 'Gus' McGoof, died just a little over an hour ago. He was an old Gordon Setter I've had for along time. I think 14 years. Just lay down and went away it seems. I'll sure miss the ol' buggar. If yer liftin' a glass and need a reason to toast, lift one for ol' Gus, a fine Scottsman gone to his Clan. Thankee.
