Oh not a can of worms...just needed to clarify more on my part, as someone was already asking what I meant by bottles/flasks...

OMG...ROTDLOL!! Um There is a group of folks living on Tangier Island, a few hours away, that supposedly have the oldest 17th century accent surviving today in the US. We plan to make a field trip of it soon to check it out.

Pouring from wooden bandolier bottles/flasks is still allowed due to the fact that there is only enough powder for one shot per bottle/flask. Note: Wooden bandolier bottles/flasks as in what some call apostles.

Perhaps whatever is discussed at the meeting could be passed along here and brought up with any members attending Key West's Pirates in Paradise Festival and Fort Taylor Pirate Event? Nice find indeed! Nice to see the case bottles going back that far, as I was told emphatically no, and must agree with Foxe, hard to tell if it is breeches or drawers under the petticoat breeches. As to ribbon garters, they were still being worn, one of the coffee house prints, circa 1700 shows them being worn. so Jack, does this mean you are now Dutch?

Have you read The Invisible Hook: The Hidden Economics of Pirates by Peter T. Leeson? I have only read some excerpts but it was interesting that he was driving at the idea that, although pirates were against the established law, they made their own 'laws' which were pretty harsh in order to keep things from getting out of hand on board their own ships.

As per yer request, I am asking here... what would be done for a severe headache? Was consumption known to be contagious?

Question... do we actually know how many became pirates to truly seek freedom from oppression? Or is this something we think they did because of their rules/regulations on board certain ships or some one said they were doing such and such which makes them sound as if they are trying to achieve such a result? For instance... the current day Somalia pirates...it has been said they do what they do to provide for their families who are suffering from oppression but other say they are just using that as an excuse and could go about providing for themselves in more "legal" ventures.
