  1. Good point Silkie....so let me 'splain a bit further... crossed writing was an attempt to save money on postage in England, when the cost depended on how many sheets of paper were sent in a letter, etc. People would write, filling up a side of a page THEN turn the page 90 degrees and write some more on top of the first bit...actually quite easy to read... The stuff I have been reading says it was quite common in the late 18th century, around the AWI...so I was wondering when did it start to be commonplace and if there were any examples of it from the GAoP time frame.. Mickey thanks...very interesting stuff...
  2. and what has that got to do with what was in the bales? and the bloody priest? and how many churches there were and windows...
  3. Aye but that is 1829...I'm reading it was commonplace by the later 18th century... I want to know if they were doing it in our time frame and are their any originals to prove it...
  4. Anyone come across any actual examples of "crossed" writing from the late 17thc into the 18th century? or crossed letter writing

  9. oh gad... good conversation? What happened to a good fight? A decent battle? a little action? People are getting far too genteel, all they bloody well want to do is sit around and talk...Algiers was more riveting... **and no image on these antique fossils at school either

  15. @ Jen, up and down the east coast and any where else the crewe ends up... @ Mission...surely ye jest? For that price I could get a few more great guns and a trailer..and pay any fines for hauling illegal birds over state lines

  19. The act of bringing chickens to an event isn't a problem as far as I am concerned after bringing 20 horses or more to events in the past...what I want to know is what are the laws(possible) laws about transporting "farm animals" across state lines, especially chickens that can carry disease... what paperwork would you need for example, especially from a vet? But seems to be a moot point here as from the replies, it seems no one here knows...
  20. Many happy returns and all the very best!
