  1. Wow, they have a great links page for knife shopping.
  2. There's this thread although the prices are probably out of date.
  3. The only purpose of two swords is to look more menacing, i.e. cool. I want to be armed to the teeth so I am looking at at least one sword and one axe and at least one pistol. I am considering if I want more than one sword or if I want a brace of guns or both. My dilemma, and a serious consideration, is how to wear two swords.
  4. I'm going to use my tax return to buy a cutlass and I am toying with the idea of ordering two instead of one to be even more fearsome. I currently have no gear for wearing even one sword, so I'm in a good position to buy whatever is needed to wear two. The problem I have is I have no idea what to buy or where to look to carry two swords. Anyone have any ideas? Would I wear two baldrics criss-crossing my body? Is two swords a bad idea for a pirate?
  5. Heh, took me a moment but I got that one. Clever. (sorry about a double post but I didn't read all the way through the thread before replying)
  6. I got 1, 3, and 4... but where's the answers so I can cheat on the other two?
  7. I'd be a plowman. My actual last name is derived from the name of an agricultural town.
  8. Wow, I haven't posted to this thread since July (page 19). I'm still on Weight Watchers and I've lost about 55% of what I want to lose. I have a really long road ahead of me still. I've found bike riding to be my thrill again. When I was in my 20s I wrecked my car and had to bike everywhere for about a year. Surprisingly, after about a month of simply puttering around I find that I'm still relatively fit and I'm quickly regaining my old biker stamina from ten years ago. I'm lucky enough to live on the outskirts of a town with a great bike path (Burbank, CA) and I ride that more than I even go for casual walks around the block. I'm really lucky to have an old healthy habit in my past - of all the people I started my weight loss with I'm the only one still going and I think that's because I like the exercise I perform. I think it's great that you, blackjohn, have a knack for finding new ways to make walking work for you. I really believe that enjoying exercise is key, well outside of sheer self control.
  9. Check out PirateDocuments.com for ideas.
  10. Instructions I made mine following the diagrams in The Marlinespike Sailor by Hervey Garrett Smith, so I don't know how easy it'll be to follow the instructions I linked.
  11. I just received my Jean Lafitte last week. Took about 12 weeks from placing the order to placing the bicorne on my head. Every bit worth the wait though.
  12. I just got done practicing sennett making, and now I'm going to play a PC game.
  13. I went to the one in Buena Park in their first month of operation. It was most excellent fun, except for the pre-show lounge. The lounge suffers from too many people and from too many people ordering mixed drinks so that those of us wanting a quick soda or water needed to wait an eternity in line. The show itself is fun. It's very acrobatic and it gets volunteers from the audience to participate. I'm hoping to go again soon, but now that they're advertising on TV I wonder if it won't be even more crowded.
  14. I just made five photocopies of a long document and now I am using the company comb-binder to bind the copies.
  15. So here's my dilemma. I started Weight Watchers in February. I'm having great success with the program, to the tune of having lost 6" in the waist. I am new to re-enacting and I really want to start buying clothes, but I know I'll just shrink out of them and I can't predict my final reduced size yet (it's about 90 pounds away). My solution has been to spend money on shoes, a hat, a sword, and all the stuff that my waistline won't affect... but I'm getting all babyish about it and I want pirate garb now now now. Yarr!! I'm not really complaining though. Having lost so much weight I feel a lot better. I can only imagine how good it'll feel to get to the finish line and slip into some normal-sized clothes. I have complete faith that counting point values will steer me to my weight loss goal. It's nice to see so many others having success too. I visit another message board where a lot of the people are trying to lose weight, but I'm the only one who's still counting points and losing anything. It's encouraging to read the last few pages of this thread and find others who are going great guns.

  21. When I asked for help choosing a sword, I found a whole host of goodly people on this site willing to assist me in my search. I have spent some time combing through old threads here all related to swords. It seems like there are a lot of people asking for and receiving the same help as me, as it relates to swords. With this in mind, in an effort to assist future sword seekers I thought I'd post up a listing of cutlasses that I found that seem appropriate. I can't vouch for any of the swords, their manufacturers, or their retailers as I haven't bought one yet and so have no first hand experience (in other words, buyer beware). In order from least expensive to most expensive (with a few that I don't know prices for), I give you the cutlass list: Bladematrix: Buccaneer Cutlass & Scabbard, $60 Bladematrix: Pirate Cutlass, $60 Bladematrix: Brass Cutlass & Scabbard, $89 Bladematrix: Nickel Cutlass & Scabbard Loyalist Arms: Dutch Cutlass & Scabbard, $90 Musket.net: 1742 British Infantry Sword & Scabbard, $90 Musket.net: 1751 British Infantry Sword & Scabbard, $90 Bladematrix: Cas Iberia Naval Cutlass without Scabbard, $95 1ABCstore.com: French/Pirate Cutlass & Scabbard, $99 1ABCstore.com: Pirate Boarding Cutlass & Scabbard, $120
  22. Did anybody happen to save the pictures from this auction? I want to see if my local smith can recreate the sword, but I acted too late to download the pictures.
  23. Wow, they gotta have a new manager or something. I've ordered from WoodChests in October 2006 and they didn't have any of the shirts, hats, games, or toys.
  24. Those look mighty fine, but what's an India gun and how do I get one?
  25. Read about this on another pirate forum and thought I'd share it here. Dunno if I'll get to it though.
