A dear friend gave me the Pirate Primer for a gift. It is a lexicon of pirate speech from history, TV, and movies. Any of you see this fine tome?

I thought the Pirates Code "Guidelines" might have a few tid bits that fill the holes in AWE. The art looked fun and Borders had it on sale for a mere $9.95! I haven't cracked it open for a read just yet but I'll let you know when I finish!

I once met a sword maker who had a sword he called an "U- Wakeo", it was shaped more like a machette with an unusal pummel shaped like an animals open mouth. He stated that the weapon was native to Japanese Pirates. I might be off on the spelling but I clearly remember this encounter since the sword was so unique.

Weevils are mentioned in the hard tack of the Civil War also. I've also heard of black headed flies

DK Books are some the finest made! Use them for travel over seas all the time. The POTC DK book I saw was rather thin and had only photos with few drawing of the ships. It told a brief version of the 3 movies in story form. Perhaps thier is another book I have not seen?

Hard to judge literacy in the past by today's standards. We are a much more demanding society. It amazes me that Jaybird can function as well as he does. I often take reading and writing for granted.

I need a new buckle for my baldric. Mine broke at the Siouxland Ren Fest. It was pewter (which was nice looking but fragile). Any suggestions?

So today I'm at Borders again and I see a book about the Articles of Pyracy from AWE. I do a quick scan and it looked pretty nice. Thought it might tie up a few loose ends. I wondered if any of you bought this tome and what you thought of it before I laid down my hard earned money.

Do you find Drum Jams to be sensual?

Saw a great display of POTC books at my favorite Borders today. Noticed a few books that I had not yet picked up. One was a "Making of the POTC" and another was a DK book on the trilogy. Just wondered if any of you read these titles and could give me your opinion.

I forgot to mention all the cheap trinkets you can buy! Great craftsmen and good food!

I think I maybe able to explain the monkey. Remember the pirates said they could eat but it turned to ash in their mouths? Maybe that monkey just doesn't care. Monkeys eat poop for goodness sake! And I did get the feeling that they (undead pirates) can feel pain (perhaps dulled by the state of undeath) so that would explain the shivering.

I enjoyed POTC 3 AWE but I had had some questions and concerns. Perhaps a few things were cut during the editing phase of production. I don't know. But maybe you do or at least have your own ideas... When Jack sees/ speaks to the multiple Jacks is it an effect of the Locker or does he always this kind of crazy drama going on in his head? Why the heck would Beckett want to kill the Kraken? He could destroy anyone with that beast! Are the spirits in the water different from the spirits in the boats (Like Gov. Swan)? If Beckett wanted Jack dead so badly why didn't he just kill him instead of locking him in the hold on the Dutchman? What was the past relationship between Jack and Beckett? What was the past relationship between Tia Dalma and Jack? It appeared friendly... I suppose I'll have more after I dwell on it for a few days...

If you are in the area and get the chance swing by the Siouxland Ren Faire the first weekend in June. This little festival has a huge heart and always ends up being a lot of fun! And don't forget to say "Yar" to Jib and the Pyrates of Portobello!

GOF, Perhaps after a brief 'time away' from historical pirates you can return and share it with your kids. Seeing something from the eyes of a child may refresh you. Good luck, enjoy your posts.
