How does that turtle wax hold up being handled? Does the oil from your hands eat through it quickly and require frequent re-applications?
-
any truth to the rumor that these were often loaded with broken glass, rocks, or old nails?

I hae been given a copy as a gift and shall enjoy it over the summer. Thank you all!

So during the Golden Age the British Army would have flown a different flag?

When was the Union Jack first used by Great Britian?

How about advice on the book "Under a Black Flag"? Is it a good period book?

Just got back from a fun little Renaissance Faire near the city of Twig in Minnesota. Set back in a birch forest this little tent faire is very charming. If you are looking for some fun in June next year and are in the MN/ WI area give it a try.

Very nice GOF. What do you do while sewing so you don't loose your mind? How often did you work on the jacket and for how long each time?

I gotta say that when I was down last fall for PiP I took a turn through Pirate Soul with my wife and we loved it. It was well done, clean, and had something for everyone. For kids you could find the Disney styled touch. FOr history lovers we found tons of artifacts and stopped and read each and every exhibit. I say go if you are in the area.

Cascabel is a great guy. Very approachable and friendly. He answered many of my questions and gave me the guidance I required. You can find him on this list serve. His buddy "Braze" is also very active in the PiP arena.
I think I may have teased Braze a little bit too much at PiP 2005. I hope he'll forgive me if I buy him a malt.

For some reason I can't seem to view the photos on B Munk's web site. Is this just me?

Good to know Capt. Zeph. I have a cheap Bud K that I'm trying out for a little street fight/ stage combat. I like the weight and the feel, we don't go at it that hard so I think it should manage to hold up.

Anyone ever try that Bud K cutlass in a stage fight?

all I can say is "Wow you guys are amazing!" Geting ready for PiP this soon with stuff for the camp will only make 2006 a great year! With the new POC movie it will draw in even bigger crowds. I hope I can join you!

Nothing wrong with pale skin!
I rather like freckles too!
But I must admit last year it was only about 60 at night and with a slight breeze you may not have wanted to jump in the sea. Sharks or no sharks.

"Lost" just rocks!
Maybe you could have some sort of item that you can't seem to part with from your earlier vocation? It need not be a bible. An altar cloth that you have turned into a shirt? Perhaps you drink from a chalice?

MerryDeath you will be missed and we will drink in you name.
Join us at MRF and we will put you in the parade again!

One thing I have learned over the years of working at various Ren Faires is that the way you make the event work for the parents is through the children. Make the day enchanting for a child and mom and dad are happy too!
I do a pirate street game for kids at MRF. I earn more smiles that way.

Could you define one as more "outward directed" and the other as more "inward directed"?
Living history and Re-enacting is more like playing a part. More acting for others to observe and discuss with.
LARP is more inward. You do it for yourself. It's all about your imagination and where it leads you and those you play with.
What do you think?

For kiddie give-a-ways how about beads or knotted pieces of cord (Monkey's Fist?)?
I use beads and the kids seem to like them.

The Pyrates of Portobello will be back at the MRF. Some old stuff and a few new tricks!
