  1. Any and all Native/ Natural peoples.
  2. Actually, I'd be rather interested in hearing why people think bikers are like pyrates. Sure would help me understand what yall think pyrates are! Is it just that it's easy to group all "outlaws" into one homogeneous mass? I guess for myself I thought that common elements between the two (pirates and outlaw bikers) included a break with tradition and a rebellious nature, the desire to profit from crime (pirates took more than just coin from victims: food, drink, garments, tools, weapons, etc), a nomadic lifestyle, violence (or the threat of violence), symbols (skulls, bones, images of devil, death), dependance upon a mode of transportation(ships/ Bikes), and a certain bravado. Hey, I could be wrong. I've never been a Biker. I don't have the insight that some of you do.
  3. Thanks Bo! I think you explained yourself very well. Perhaps it is one of those "You had to be there" experiences that most of us will never have.
  4. Jib raises hand and asks the 'stupid' question: Whats a Trunion?
  5. Bo and others with Biker heritage: Without making you uneasy can you share a few reasons why Bikers are not like Pyrates? Doesn't have to be personal experiences... Could be just examples.
  6. How about "Snuff"? That appeared at about this time did it not?
  7. I forgot about Hash! And that was popular in the Middle East since the Dark Ages!
  8. I know this was in Pirates Magazine but I think it has merit. Do you think todays Outlaw Bikers (criminals) could be compared to the Pirates of the past?
  9. Took a look at a book entitled "Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs" by Jerry Webber. In the book Mr. Webber notes that people in the 1700's drank 3 times as much alcoholas we do today. He also mentions Marihuana Tax act of 1937 and says that the use of Marijuana stretches back thousands of years (page 18). Made me think? Did Pirates enjoy something other than rum, wine, ale and beer from time to time?
  10. I was watching the movie "Alatriste" over the weekend and they show a few Spainards spike a series of cannons. I imagine that given time the touch hole could be drilled out or a new one bored in. Just wondered if that indeed intended to the gun was ruined or just a hassle to repair?
  11. While reading the post on tatoos it made me think that I have never heard of a Native American who took up piracy but it seems very possible. Anyone know of any of the First Peoples who took to the sea for plunder?
  12. So no armor used in European conflicts after say 1670?
  13. Callenish I seem to recall reading something like this too! I also seem to recall that Coptic Christians often tattooed a cross upon them so they wouldn't be accused of being followers of Islam. I also seem to remember something about the Turkish Janissary as having various and assorted tattoos (wheels, passages from the Koran, etc) upon them.
  14. I know that the Morion style helmet was used by many nations (although often considered Spanish) and was used in the 1500's. When did this type of helmet cease to be used?
  15. Thinking of picking up pair of rope style sandals. Something primative and yet comfy that can hold up. I would like to stay away from plastics and try to use more natural materials. I don't want to break the bank. Have any suggestions?
  16. I had a friend, who knew I did pirate entertainment, suggest this movie. I thought I had heard that it was just a non-stop comedy, the type of movie I have to be in a mood for. I have discovered that while being far from serious it is an entertaining film.

    Stilletos

How about the stilleto? I have seen a few that are marked with measurements to check the depth of gunpowder.
  18. Thanks mates! I will explore deeper...

    Mortuary Sword

I think that might be the blade for me!
  20. Bilge Monkey, No worries and thanks for the assistance. I will try the phone number this upcoming weekend to see if I can get a little direction. I think it's a nice game for kids (perhaps Merry Death and Red Bess could agree?) and might offer a little more to the Festival. Either way I will be there too!
  21. Thanks friends! If you hear anything pass it on!
  22. I have a beat up old ruff (stained and difficult to get on) and I might need to take a new role as a Spanish gentleman. I'd like to buy a ruff. Any suggestions of a good vendor? I'm not too handy with a needle and thread.
  23. I own the LOTR Aragon figure from Sideshow and let me tell you this isn't just a toy! The detail and the clothing is top rate! Articulation is excellent!
