Did I notice a new mark of some type on Jacks face? An "X" on his upper right side almost eye level? Liked the tie in with the monkey and Sao Feng's map. Did not like the zombies (but might have liked them if they were better explained). I wished the mermaid would have saved the preacher only to devour him with her sisters.

Pirates friends: I am the person who started this nasty thread way back. "hangs head in shame" I have regretted it ever since. Your comments about supporting the pirate community and helping new people enter the hobby are the true essence of this site. Posters like Patrick Hand, Mission, Capt. Sterling, and others have all voiced some great complaints about this post. This topic was my fault and it was a bad idea. Will you forgive me or am I to be left on a desert island with a pistol and one shot?

My thought was that if the pirates created a "choke point" while trying to board it might allow the defenders (with a smaller crew) to hold out against them. Approaching the ship from multiple locations would not allow the defenders to all gather in one place.

What about stage combat weapons? Something that is going to get banged about? I have been using Hoppes oil but noticed that a brown funk has started to appear on my rapier. Suggestions?

Have you ever seen the older more cartoon looking figures by Zizzile? Figures for POTC 3? They look closer to the cartoon and young adult book versions of the main characters.

Had some friend (who I credit with some GOAP knowledge) state that the ship we call a "Sloop" is properly pronounced "Slew" (sounds similar to stew). I had always thought it was similar sounding to poop. Which is correct?

Henry Morgan did not consider himself a pirate. He found the term insulting. It angered him to be considered a pirate since he was a patriot of the English crown. But what about the buccaneers he rallied to his cause? Would they be considered pirates? Did not Henry have to hang a few of these lads after he was awarded the gov. of Port Royal?

Oh yes it's a good book! I like the pirate captain best even though I get the feeling he is the main villain for the series. The starting chapter on Treasure Beach is wonderful... very different from most fantasy tales.

Very interesting. It appears that no rough estimate could reasonably determined. If you had a family member joining you in the New World from Europe it could be from anywhere from 2 months to 4 months.

I'm about 80% through the first novel in the series. I can tell that it will not wrap up and that I will have to continue the tale in the remaining 2 novels. I do agree that parts are tedious.

I am almost finished with the first book in Robin Hobbs Liveship Traders Trilogy "Ship of Magic". It is a fine read if you enjoy a little fantasy blended in with your sea adventure tales. Lots of detail and while I must admit to finding the main character rather boring (Althea) I do like the pirate captain. Any fans? Any who have knowledge of Robin Hobbs world?

I'm curious as to the length of time sailors generally planned for when traveling between the Old World and the colonies as well as between the colonies themselves. I know it would not be exact but a rough estimate would be of interest. Example: roughly how many days travel between Boston and Port Royal.
