  1. Depending on yer body chemistry type, some of that piercing stuff might not get along with your body type. Solid gold non-plated hoops work best fer me after punching a new hole through meself. As for a good source of earring and hoop booty, for those of us prone to infection or with sensitive ear flaps or whatever, once I be find a good source for such things and they run out of stock, that’s usually it and I be having to look else where again to find more. (how were that fer a run-on sentence? and talk about not being any help...)
  2. Ahoy there Shipmates, I don't be checking this topic very often, I'm always surprised to see how much everyone be talking about them emoticons when I've been away from 'em for so long. I be glad to see that Cap'n Fishking be having fun pushing a pixel or two as well. Darling Paisley, the answer be yes! I'll add a pink emoticon for ye to me ToDo list. That is if you don't mind waiting a bit for it, I'll get around to it at some point. And Wolfy Wench, thank you for the kind words.
  3. Aye Darkmalkin, I had the same problem with some pictures I be posting some time ago. I think that it had to do with me web server being a Linux friendly sort that had a picture directory with an "&" symbol in it's name. And this being a Microsoft friendly sight and all, well it be getting a bit confused with the path name tis all and be wanting to do something other than just make a link to the image I suppose. The way I fixed it were to rename the directory by getting rid of the "&" symbol in the directory name and now that be working here fine, though that broke all me links else where on the net. Let me know if that help ya at all.
  4. Ahoy there and (berp) 'appy (berp) Berfday to ya darling Katey Congratulations me Lady (berp) O'Tierney on another year of out witting pirate fate and the alternative. I could have sworn that you not be a lass of more than 17 though. Robbing the cradle I be (berp) be, (berp) be, (berp) I were just saying to Pyrate Molly a bit ago about your Capt. Flint. What (berp) color be those eyes of yars again (berp) Anyway, fair winds to you and yours (berp), this first round be in me already so I'll buy the next.
  5. Capt. Flint you bastard! (meant as a Stynky term of endearment of course.) You only spent $30. putting that thing together? Besides looking into your fair Katey’s gorgeous eyes, I had me sights set on that baldric of yars pretty much the other part of the night. I kept hoping that you would be putting it down and forgetting it somewhere and maybe I could slip off ship in a long boat with it unnoticed. It’s a fine hand made piece to be sure there ladd. Make sure to send me detailed shots of that along with copies of your wheel lock pistol drawings, we’ll get ‘em posted .
  6. Ahoy there Master Hawkyns, I for one would be very much interested in seeing some "in progress" images of your “engineer” to “bucket pirate boots”. That be if you don’t mind sharing all that cutting off at the ankles, stitching up and sewing over the winter with us. I be knowing what you mean about the commercial boots being to soft and flimsy, you saw me boots when we be at Capt. Flints. Though I love ‘em dearly and wouldn’t change them for the world right now, especially for what I paid for ‘em. I often wonder just how long they will be around, how well they will wear given that that they be more for looks and not heavy duty at all. Do you be ‘aving any close up images of yer retired or soon to be retired boots as they are – were ?
  7. Arr that's what me problem with me first pair of pirate boots I bought. The web advertisement pictures didn't show any zippers and the names implied a Ren Fair & SCA affiliation. But the soles be real slippery plastic that hurt me feet something awful and the leather be real thin and smelled real chemical like, give me a bad headache every time I took 'em out. The ad had mentioned the zipper but had left me with the impression that it be hidden inside and visible from the outside, sort of like fishing waders. I went around and around with the vender for quit awhile until they finally got so annoyed by me I think they just gave up before I did and told me never to buy anything from them again.
  8. Bravo Capt Grey, bravo, well met, well met indeed Great work I love it.
  9. Ahoy, no apologies needed here mate. Now where did that rapidograph pen go? They glide so nice on a piece of clear acetate don’t they?
  10. Arr Capt Grey, I alway enjoy seeing what others do on a budget or in a pinch, not to laugh at mind you but fer inspiration. I've only spent the big money on things like on me boots after years of frustration and discomfort. The rest I've tried to make, build and put together meself. I'm not sure that a baldric is much more than a couple of belts buckled toegther at the ends and sewed together at the others anyway. Except fer where yer cutlass is supose to be attached.
  11. I appreciate such kind words me lady. Though there be plenty here that given half the chance would have more than a word or two to say about it to be sure. There be some nice things to say about the earlier versions of CorelDraw, though I'm not sure what. Plus all those vector based line and tangent drawing programs on the computer just stray so far away from the basic concepts of real world drawing and painting for me own liking. I mean I use them for logos and line art when I need to but, give me a Wacom tablet and a copy of Corel Painter for the computer anyday, Painter use to be owned by someone else. Better yet just give me the drag of a nice HB pencil on some slightly toothy paper and I be in heaven.
  12. Lady Zephyr, My apologies to the false reference of your gender, it seemed prudent at the time. During our conversation I noticed that we getting the attention of an unsavory lot that I didn’t recognize. In an attempt to protect your honor, (and me person) they didn’t appear so bright I though I could throw them off, distract and confuse them with loud noises, odd talk and obscure art techniques then we could escaped back to the relative safety of the pub. Anyway, they seem to have gone for now… Aye, I be a graphic artist of sorts with a bit of fine art thrown in to make it fun. Spent the last 20+ years of me life making a living at it…on the computer now mostly.
  13. 'appy berrfday (burp) and to the auction block wit ya... (burp)
  14. Arr, I hear what you be saying Scupper, It took me more than 10 years of going to faires and events before I decided to spend the $300.00 on a good pair of solid boots. I had tried the cheaper $80.00 route and was very unhappy with the quality or lack there of. Found I was much better off showing off a pair of hoop stockings and a covered toe, Berkenstock clone sandal type shoe. Say what size feet do you have?
  15. Arr do you have some pictures that you can share with us?
  16. Wow, looks like you guys had a great time! Claire, you have to upload some of those images to the Pup Photo Album, make sure to add people’s pirate names so we know who we be looking at. Great stuff!
  17. Aye Zephyr, As everyone slips in and out of pirateese, tis often hard to tell what the hell is being sayed and to whom it's being directed at sometimes. From what I can tell everything here be fine. Gary the Royaliste is just kindly offering pictures of his ship for you to use if you wish for your t-shirt project, with his approval before printing. (I think he just wants to make sure that you don't dishonor the ships name in some way before you hit the press.) As for me being an artist, yes and thank you for noticing kind sir.
  18. Arr isn’t that always the problem. Other than the musketeer type bucket boots that I mentioned back on page one of this topic, priced at $175. (still considered pricey for most on a budget) I’m not sure that there be a good low cost alternative or budget boots out there worth buying if you plan on really wearing them with any level of comfort in mind. Silvermane http://www.silvermane.com/ (home) http://www.silvermane.com/leather.html http://www.silvermane.com/MR/MR-8252.html (more fine pirate & musketeer type buckets) Alternative footwear to boots, other than buying authentic period type shoes, you might want to try a pair of covered toe, Berkenstock clone type sandals. They usually run about $20. - $50. I know a lot of faire folk that work the faires that wear these and actually find them more comfortable than wearing boots all day, everyday. Them with a pair of hoop stockings a skirt and some breechs and yer set. But for those of us who just have this thing about boots, they’re the only way to go.
  19. Ahoy there Redd, My meaning wasn’t to over run the thread and stomp on your generous offer to help Zephyr out with some drawing. My apologies to you sir. Fair winds to ya both.
  20. Jennifer, This really be yer call here and depends on what ya be wanting to use the boots for. If they be the kind of boots that I’m pretty sure that they are, they be made cheaply and have yar feet hurting at faire or event in order. They also come with the “Inner Ankle Zipper”, that means there’s an obvious and exposed zipper on the outside inseam at yer ankles. Besides zipper thingys being frowned upon at period costume events, most self disrespecting pirates, like meself just ain’t wouldn’t be caught dead with a pair of those things on. (sorry, poor attempt at a Marshal Mathers double or triple type negative, not sure what though) But then again, some times people take all this period and historically accurate stuff way to seriously for their own good and somewhere along the way the fun and joy of it gets lost. So, have fun.
  21. Master Zephyr, I actually be familiar with yer name sake and yer description be more than wonderful to be sure. Exactly what I be asking fer. The real reason I be asking was that I know of another artist that be known to go by a similar name and I thought you might be them tis all. I would have been very surprised if you were they. Arr and back to yar t-shirt project. Now it’s been a while since I’ve done any heat transfers, tis fun indeed. How do you get yer design from paper to the transfer material? I use to be able print to transfer material stock using basic copy machines or color copiers at the local print shop. Now a days I’ve seen that they have the transfer material for color printers for sale at the local computer store, haven’t tried it out yet though. Do you just use a regular hot iron to do your transfers to t-shirt (I did) or did you invest into one of those uber clothes press steam heat thingys? As for the Dover Publishing, here’s a link to their web site and a link to their nautical section. If the nautical section link doesn’t work, just type in nautical for the on their site. Dover Publishing http://store.doverpublications.com/index.html http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsea...&query=nautical I’ve already got the Ready-To-Use Old-Fashioned Nautical Illustrations, there be lots of ship images in there. Most of them are way to small for what you be wanting to do directly. But with a couple dollars spent on Xerox copy enlargements at the self-serve station at the print shop, you should have what you be after.
  22. *Nodding in agreement with S E V E N* Arr, being that clothes be woven and sewed by hand, they be more than just symbols of wealth or status, they were wealth. Remember when Miss Turner in POTC was asked to remove her dress before she was going over board, well it was more than for a cheap thrill, the dress had major monetary value. As fer boots El Pirata me Ladd, I be sure that if you attended faire or event with nothing except your boots on that you would be getting yerself all sorts of attention.
  23. Arr, just get yarself a pair of boots and see what happens. Nothing else needs to be sayed. ...like you be needing boots for that anyway El Pirata.
  24. Ahoy, so who all be planning to attend this here event?
  25. Historically speaking, I don’t think I could agree with you more RumbaRue. Most pirates likely wore little or no shoes at all when on deck or climbing the riggings. Smooth leather soles just don't have much in the way of traction anyway when it came to wet slippery surfaces, especially during high rolling seas. But I think we be talking about a coolness factor here... pretend if you will…and I hate to be saying it out loud… but Pirate Fashion, for those of us who like to dress up, look good and get laid accordingly for it.
