  1. Think of it as mini-training for sword fights.
  2. Although I am not much of a ST fan, I can't wait to use that line at PiP this year. Can't. Wait.
  3. Penny made that movie. Quirky, independent, clever and cool. I actually haven't watched the special edition because I had just watched the movie from NF when I purchased it (and actually watched it again with the commentary on the regular version because I liked it so much.) Having so recently seen it twice, I decided to wait for the opportune moment.
  4. Not that one. This one! Geoffry Holder is kewl...and that skull painting...well, what more is there to say?
  5. Almost Famous. After I saw it a few months ago, I liked it so much that I immediately went out and bought the expanded/deluxe DVD set. Did you know it contains a music CD of The Stillwater tracks? Awesome movie.
  6. Canvas and gerbils? I give that about 2 minutes. No gerbil or hamster wants to be in a cage, no matter how colorful or Byzantine it is. (Believe me, I have over a decade of experience with such rodents. Sharp pointy teeth!) But there will definitely be an old-timey period section. And of course, for the purists.
  7. Where the hell did you find that?! That is just too hilarious!
  8. You're a natural choice for a leader of pirates. I think it's the classic pirate features and easy going attitude. The perfect pirate leader, from we pirates POV. However, you'll probably wind up with the gout with all your new wealth which will lead to ill-considered habits. So I will surely get a slice of your take. ("But of course I can help you with your gout, governor! Emetics, cuppings, purgings, bleedings... " Welcome to my tree-house parlor said the surgeon to the gov.)
  9. Ok. First, I have to confirm the dates and the location.
  10. Mary, you're a skull! Congratulations! (I keep having to reset my post count every few months so I can remain a skull. Fortunately, my new admin powers allow me to do that.) "With these powers I could be...a superhero! I could fight crime, protect the innocent...work for world peace! But first..."
  11. Actually, that's my impression of her. She seems quite sensible and intelligent from my discussions with her. Now, Josh...well, Stynky's dazzled him with a life of crime... I hate to think where he'll be hanging out in our little town. "I say, first, medicinal wine from a teaspoon, Then beer from a bottle. An' the next thing ya know, Your son is playin' for money In a pinch-back suit. And list'nin to some big out-a-town Jasper Hearin' him tell about horse-race gamblin'. Not a wholesome trottin' race, no! But a race where they set down right on the horse!"
  12. I nominate Captain Jim for Governor.
  13. It's certainly not my place to say you couldn't live on a ship, but it just occurred to me that since Sterling brought it up, it wouldn't be long before this turned into another "What kind of ship would you buy?" thread. It's one of the more visible aspects of piracy and many folks fantasize about that. Call it gentle guiding back towards the original question. As for the type of town, I didn't start the thread, so you have to go to the source. And she says, "If we had a colonial style town - say like Williamsburg, but a port town like Charleston - what would your business/career/trade be? What would your home look like? Would you be in town or outside of town? Just have fun with this, mates!" "colonial style" leaves some leeway, don't you think? 'Fun' also seems to suggest leeway to me. Strict rules seem sort of grim and not much fun IMHO. I originally thought of putting my fantasy house up, but rejected it because it's not even remotely colonial:
  14. Ships are cool and certainly a home for pirates, but the original premise that we were establishing a colonial town or village. I just thought I'd mention it before everyone starts posting pics of ships. ("Yes, we know that part, anything else?")
  15. Interesting! I am reading several different (non-Johnson) sources and when I come across something that has been debated in the past (even on our other forum, Daniel), I post the information here. It's as much storage of the info as anything. In many cases the books I read are from inter-library loan and take weeks for me to get. (Mostly because they're far to expensive to purchase for what I'm doing.) Since this sort of info is not related to the Surgeon's role - which is what I'm really researching - I stick it in here. Plus others sometimes find the info interesting.
  16. They have asked me to supply some photos. The reporter said they'd probably only use one or maybe two. I expect they'll hate my photos and want to take some which probably means a trip to Columbus is in my future since Michael has all my gear...most particularly my Patrick Hand original hat.
  17. Bereft of ornaments?! It has loads of ornaments! (Oh, thank her for sending me the one she did. She should have put her picture in it, though. It's my Grace ornament.) Hey, the writer said he was going to make sure and mention the May Santa Maria event at the end of the article, so who knows? Perhaps there will be a Michigan contingent in Columbus.
  18. I'm afraid that would go badly. See, I never read this group of forums, so I have no intrinsic feel for indexing it. I only pop in and post in the forums that exist for the events that I've decided to attend based on outside invitations and recommendations. (I only attend 3 or 4 events a year and one of them has it's own separate forum.)
  19. I suggest you contact Stynky directly. He's in charge of the organization of the forum and having people modify things. I'm pretty sure he doesn't read the forum beginning to end so he may not have even seen this post. In fact, it should really have gone in the Pyracy Pub Status forum because that's sort of what it's for; I know he reads that when he checks in. I suggest presenting him with a well organized idea about what could be done to improve the forum. (Don't just complain about why you don't like the new format and how it was better before. Think about how well you respond when someone complains to you about something you've taken the initiative to design.) Stynky really does want to make the format better and if you have a good idea, I'm sure he'll at least consider it.
  20. I envy you not, Michael. I was support for one program (with multiple variations) for about 60 people and that was a job that could really stress you out at times. (Particularly certain of the 60 people, especially when they of that group all had (or, worse, all thought they had) problems at the same time.) "The word 'user' is the word used by the computer professional when they mean idiot." -Dave Barry
  21. Wow! That is awesome; thanks Foxe!
  22. Gee, I dunno what I'd do. What is my skillset? (What to do...what to do...) I do know that this would be my establishment:
  23. Oho! I knew there was an explanation for why I got charged at the gate! Say Pete, would you be willing to ink and sign a copy of this for me? This is turning into quite a cool little thing.
  24. Ah, yes... Daily Surgery Tips with Mission...I can see it all now. BTW, Connie, he was extraordinarily interested in whole Baby Lion and Grace chain of events. He said he was going to try and write a sidebar article specifically about that and asked me for a photo of her. If the article gets published, I'd guess the sidebar has a high probably of getting chopped if they don't want to use the space, but I thought you'd enjoy that. If it gets published I will post links. And, for the record, I said nothing good whatsoever about Stynky so it will probably be very useful in getting him elected.
