Ok so what did the fashion experts on the ships just flip thier hand and say 'Oh no these are all wrong we need something else?' I seems hard to accept that 50 years between something that works they decide not to wear them. The men on these ships were not into fashion... If they were then they would wear what all the dandy's on shore were wearing whether it was harder to wear or not. I would like to see where you got your documentation from though Kass.

Actually Maria, I fight rapier and short sword in skirts and handle the guns as well in proper female attire... I will not fight in anything other, unless the mud is to my calves and then well i do not want to be weighed down and that only happened once. Ok, there are a few on this board that will go to Hawkyns when there is a question on powder. As well have worked with him at various events. He is a respected gunner and holds the title Master Gunner for many an organization including a large SCA event every summer. There are many that take his word as gold when it comes to purchasing and even thinking of purchasing a piece. But when it comes to powder there are no games at all when he is there, all powder is handled safely and in a controlled enviroment. And if there are any that have questions ask... don't sit there and hem and haw about it, this is not a chat on what is for dinner. We need to put in to place a person that knows what they are doing because i was near someone with a extremely heavy load and am still having a problem with my hearing as they did not warn me that they were going to fire it. My big comment is following her cutting lines or tracing as it is for me, I tried one of her patterns for a womens 17th century jacket and could not tell which line went to where as there was not much description even on the pattern itself. And thanks for the heads up Rhumba on the sizing as if i do attempt her pattern again and at this time a big if. I will have no choice but to do a muslin piece in advance. Though as I said following the lines on the actual pattern, it is not easy to follow when there are 2 different cutting lines for 2 different jackets on the same piece. Again Kass this is just my cunstructive critisism.

I am far from being prudish, but if my ex husband saw my 10 year old son looking at that he would fly off the handle and he looks at the board from time to time...And as a mother I would have a problem with it if he was looking at it too. There is a place for pictures like that and this is not one of them... And considering the job i just quit you would understand...

Speculation has it that the opening was to the back, but to me this makes no practical sense, unless we conjecture that it is just as easy (or difficult) to access and use the button closure at the back under long skirts as it is to access it at the front under long skirts. I found this information about ladies drawers on a web site i got from the Wenches Forum : "From the Moors to the Spanish: "Unmentionables in our period were mentioned but not illustrated for the noble ladies of Spain. Anderson also mentions an interesting titbit: Queen Juana's (1509-1555) drawers, "bluntly termed breeches, were lined with white fur"." this will sound strange and far from period but use stick deoderant between your thighs stops chafing... but if you sweat a lot reapply....
