  1. Getting ready for sword practice. I am SO creaky this morning.
  2. Stuffed portabella mushrooms, artichokes and bruschetta. With chardonnay and gelato for dessert.
  3. Might look a bit confetti-like if the dog had eaten corn... texture!
  4. A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects -Robert A. Heinlein
  5. Yeah, for lots of folks it's a manufactured, forced romance day. I guess it's all how you look at it. I'm of the opinion that everyone shouldn't be forced into the package that all those stores are trying to push people into. Everyone has their own way of letting their significant other know how much they are loved, and whether it is a dozen red roses and a heart-shaped box of candy or not, more power to 'em! I must admit to being a sucker for romantic gestures, though. And Valentine's Day is as good a day as any to show that special person know how much you love them.
  6. Yikes - keep in mind that one day, some of us are going to be that old. Although I don't plan on taking naked pictures of myself at that point; that takes more chutzpah than I thought was ever possible!
  7. In terms of talking in one's sleep, I have a funny story that happened when I was a little kid. My brother and I were still young enough to share a room and one morning, he started thrashing around and said very distinctly, "Get off of me, you stupid plants!" and woke up. I asked him what the dream had been about, but he couldn't remember.
  8. My very favorite T-shirt is one I got in Newport Beach. It's my Captain Comdom shirt, with a comdom made up like a super hero (cape and all!) and he's saying, "wrap that rascal!" It is a way cool shirt.
  9. Jack and I have developed a kind of tradition where we buy something for us in addition to something for each other (e.g. a pair of distinctive wine glasses.) Also, he goes out of his way to get me something that he knows I would really appreciate. Last year it was a small bookcase for the bedroom, since I had so many books piling up that didn't fit into the office and he knew I didn't want to put them into storage in the attic. As far as how we spend the day, that varies. I want to take us to see Great Big Sea - they are playing locally that evening and a few of us want to see them.
  10. I'm also a believer that there is more than one person who can be "the one" so to speak. There are degrees to everything, but there's definitely a point where you just know that a person is IT for you. And I used to get so frustrated with my friends who told me, "you'll just KNOW" until it happened to me. It's true - you just know; there's no other way I can think of to describe it.
  11. I did something similar my senior year of high school. I went to a Catholic school and decided to give the nuns a thrill by taping photos from Playgirl magazine all over where they congregated. At one point when I was putting up a picture, one of my classmates (who was a bit of a pill) wandered by, noticed what I was doing and said, "That's not a DIRTY picture you're putting up, is it?" I replied, "No, this is beautiful!" and continued putting up the photo.
