Declare Sumthin' About Th' Hearty Above Ye
Red-Handed Jill replied to Captain Booty's topic in Beyond Pyracy
^ Is a creation of Hester's -
HildeKitten - those started out as Musketeer boots and Jack just turned the cuffs over so that they'd point down. So you might want to see if they make musketeer boots in your size.

^ I've traveled the "road not taken" my whole life, so folks expect me to be different. < I wish my feet and ankles would stop swelling! V Ever surprised anyone?

^Is Red Cat Jenny's alter-ego -
^ I designed a logo for Neil Young's personal trainer. Neil Young liked it so much, I ended up doing a series of t-shirts, all hand-painted, with this logo and then a different personal logo for Neil, his wife, band members and other friends. I'm pretty proud of those shirts. The logo was a 3/4 view of the god Apollo in his flaming chariot, pulled by a horse with flaming mane and tail. There were lots of other details in it as well. < Still tired from this weekend. V Ever had a brush with destiny?

^ All of the above. < Stunned? Pray tell! V Paint, sculpt or sketch?

Yeah - been shopping at equilter for years! They've got some wonderful fabrics. If you're ever in the San Francisco area, stop by Eddie's Quilting Bee on Castro in Mountain View. The store is full of wonderful fabrics. There's also Norman Bernie in Burlingame, which carries mostly upholstery fabrics and bulk muslins and such. Some of Jack's and my more resplendent gear was created from their wares.

^ Probably just to Ojai in September. < Very few frequent flier miles. V Any places you'll be traveling to more than once this year?

That's the same weekend as our maritime weapons class, so we'll miss it this year. -
^^ I'm a vegetarian, so sashimi = yuck. However, I love the veggie varieties, particularly natto. < Back from Queen Bess and the Pyrates faire - boy, am I exhausted! V Sword or boarding axe?

Queen Bess and the Pyrates Faire - May 5th and 6th
Red-Handed Jill replied to Red-Handed Jill's topic in May
That was a heck of a lot of fun; Joyce Roberts does a great job with her faires. Due to the location of the event we couldn't fire cannons, so I built a tomahawk/knife/grappling hook arena (gotta love those cordless power tools - some very unpiratical sounds were emanating from the Tales of the Seven Seas camp the mornings before the faire opened...) We had lots of fun throwing sharp objects. My band, the Bloody Scupper Plunder Club provided some of the entertainment. We had no power so couldn't set up a sound system, but apparently folks within a fairly large area were able to hear us. One wee lad joined us for all of our performances and danced around the stage, clapping. His dad was delighted, although I'm not sure how happy he's going to be when Adam starts singing his new favorite song - The Old Black Rum - at preschool. At one point, he was joined by some other kids and they all jumped on to the stage and danced and clapped. And some girls dressed as fairies started dancing around the stage as well. Also, one of our pirates had been saying that he was going to get his ear pierced; he said this for several months but didn't do anything about it. Handily enough, there was a booth at the faire with ear piercing, so a bunch of us shanghaied Wheezer and dragged him over to get his ear pierced with much ceremony. We wrote a new verse for Drunken Sailor in his honor. And one of the groups was firing either large caliber guns or cannons at one point and the security folks ran over to our camp, since we have a well-deserved reputation for lots of bangs and booms. For once, it wasn't us... -
^ It's situational. Just about EVERYTHING is situational with me. < Used to wear my ex's shirts a lot. V Glass half full or half empty?
-
The movie is based on the first of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Phillip Pullman. They are basically his take on Milton's Paradise Lost. The books are aimed primarily at young people, but are actually a good read for adults. I enjoyed them. I got the snow leopard - similar traits to the tiger.

^ Born in San Francisco, lived in various places in the U.S. and Canada. Now live about 20 miles south of SF, on the bay. < Bought Jack an grappling hook for an early birthday present this year. V Dark or milk chocolate?

^ Sewing the buttons. I hate sewing buttons. < Am designing a combat/tomahawk and grappling hook throwing area for our camp. Fun stuff! V What is your favorite part of clothing construction?

I'll bet yucky doesn't even begin to describe it... Try Gypsy Cold Care tea; you can find it in most supermarkets and it's wonderful for respiratory ailments.

^ The Queen Bess and the Pyrates Faire is this weekend - I'm as ready as I'll ever be for it. < I'm in events pretty much all year, so for me there is no "first year's event". V What event haven't you gone to but really want to?

What do you think of "What do you think" posts?
Red-Handed Jill replied to Gentleman of Fortune's topic in Beyond Pyracy
That's one of the good things about this forum - you don't have to read anything you don't want to. This seems to be a social forum more than anything else and people interact socially in many different ways. I ignore those posts for the most part, but some folks do pick up some really great items of which I am extremely envious. And yes, some folks display occasional bad judgement when purchasing what they think to be piratical swag, but some gentle honesty is always the best policy. (Actually, the best policy is for them to post something and get a consensus BEFORE they purchase said item, but...) -
^ Kind of in the middle. Oftentimes it can be such a chore, but sometimes I meet some really interesting folks. One one flight, I ended up with free rum and cokes and in the middle of a festive, impromptu party, just for doing something courteous for someone. I've met and chatted with folks from all over the world and in one case, discovered that I was sitting next to a man I had done business with for years but had never met. Ya just never know... < I feel so run-down today. I just want to go home and sleep, but I have too much to do. V Cruise ship? Yay or nay?

Actually, a friend sent that to me. I had to share...
