  1. Could be worse - you could be listening to the Muzak version of that song.
  2. Robin Hood? (The one with Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman.)
  3. A lot of people are fooled by books and the media into thinking that the infatuation phase is supposed to last forever and believe the relationship is over when that phase naturally ends. For me, the true love part starts after that initial stage, when you see the other person clearly and still love them, even though it has transmuted itself from the "almost-physically-hurts-when-he's-not-here" stage to the "warm fuzzies" stage. I'm recalling a scene from - oddly enough - the series "Twin Peaks" when two of the characters are discussing whether or not they are in love with their respective girlfriends. They were discussing how it intensified their feelings and one of them said something like it made him feel EVERYTHING more intensely. Just because you love someone doesn't mean you can't be mad as hell at them.
  4. From what I've observed (and experienced), the best matches seem to be between two people who are fairly similar (at least in values), but are different in ways that each appreciates about the other.
  5. I wish. We didn't bring a camera because we thought Mark would bring one. Then he told us he almost never takes pictures and almost never takes a camera anywhere. I did take some pics of him in garb the next day with his cell phone. Hopefully, they'll end up posted here. So if anyone comes up thisaway and ends up sailing with us, bring your camera!
  6. Now if I could only find them in my size... I've looked everywhere online, but the ones that would work come in men's sizes. The smallest one's I've found are about 1-1/2 sizes too big. Grrrr!
  7. I just picked up "This is San Francisco", a colourful history of the city, including the shady dealings at the waterfront. Anyone going to Ojai may see some of these shady dealings reinacted...
  8. Oooh - Alize Gold Passion cognac and passionfruit liqueur! Jack and I discovered it awhile back - no, you don't want to mix it with anything. It's way too good on its own!
  9. It seems to me there are a couple of debates going on here: One is the love or to not love debate and the other is the marriage debate. These are two totally different matters, since you can have either of them with or without the other. You can love someone and have a very happy common-law relationship like Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn (and me and Jack, coincidentally enough.) They are right - this works very well for them and I'll bet a lot of folks look at their relationship as an inspiration. I certainly do. For other folks, marriage is the epitome of love and commitment and there are lots of folks who have been married for awhile and think it's the best thing since sliced bread, or close to it. Then there's the love debate, which I think is how this discussion started. You've got the "love isn't worth getting hurt" group and the "love is more than worth the risk" group. I'm in the second group, in case that wasn't blindingly obvious. I've been hurt before, but it's not in me to guard my heart to avoid getting hurt again.
  10. Aye - one of the few folks to give Donald Trump a run for his money. And lots of headaches as well.
  11. "Instant Karma" by John Lennon Favorite Tom Waits song is "Singapore"!
  12. Thanks! Now I have to find some decent desert boots.
  13. Well, the saying "It's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all" came from somewhere... And it seems that quite a few folks agree with it. Whatever floats your frigate - if everyone was the same, this planet would be awfully boring! I'm all in favour of love. Sure, there's the risk that you might get hurt but the rewards are worth it, at least for me.
  14. I once designed a bodice for a friend to give her a bit more oomf. It added more support on the sides as well as below. She wears it with a padded push-up bra and is very happy with the results.
  15. ^ A friend of mine turned thirty and for some reason he decided to have a big catered affair with friends and family. Their vegetarian option was Green Giant brand peas and cubed carrots. Bleah! This was over twenty years ago, when folks weren't as enlightened about other diet choices. < My aunt could ruin a salad... V Pass the question - too good not to pass.
  16. It wasn't meant as a guy-bashing exercise, really. It's just that there were several posts from men who expressed a wish to know what made women tick and I demystified it for them. We women read just as many female-bashing posts that many of us here are the exception to. Just as many of the guys here are exceptions to the typical male issues that we women have to deal with.
  17. ^ Pretty much every meal I ever ate at my aunt's house was a horror. I don't know how she did it, but she could make even the most basic stuff taste horrible. < Red Cat Jenny - I am SO with you on the blood pudding. Vincent Price - heh. V Pass the question.
  18. Hands-free isn't illegal, which is what he was using. The thing is, NO ONE is that good a driver, either with hands-free or not. At any rate, Tales of the Seven Seas had a pirate gig tonight at a developmentally disabled children's camp and Mark joined us. We got him kitted out and handed him our hand-sewn Jolly Roger. The kids were great and we all had a wonderful time interacting and playing pirate with them. Then we adjourned to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner before dropping him off on his way back to the hotel. We encountered no accidents on the way back...
  19. Had a bit of an adventure yesterday. Mark (Misson) flew out to SF on Friday night and we picked him up and took him sailing Saturday morning. The wind was very wacky, changing direction and there were some powerful gusts. We had a couple of close moments, but he was a real trouper and even spent some time at the helm. Always an adventure sailing on the Bay of Saint Francis! Then we went to the local watering hole for an early dinner and margaritas and then drove home. On the way, my car was rear-ended. Since we were in stop-and-go traffic, we weren't hit hard, but I got the other guy's insurance info, just in case. And the entire time, he was talking on his cell phone. Gee - wonder why he rear-ended me? (People who drive while talking on the phone - GRRRR!) At any rate, Jack and I were okay and Mark seemed okay but we'll check today when we see him.
