I agree. Some of us might be interested.

Why thank you Rogue. I appreciate that. Hopefully we'll make an even better showing this year. More men. More muskets. Should be fun. Hope to see you there again!

how do i find a pirate crew to join
blackjohn replied to piratelass's topic in Find a Crew or Introduce One
As a gentle reminder, being a proponent of your School of Thought the Second, I would like to point out we are every bit as interested in having fun as those of the festival school. The main differences between these schools of thought are, as I see them: the types of venues played (festival vs historical site vs wherever a gig might land them) clothing standards (historical vs hollywoodical) what is done (improv vs reenacting vs music) I am painting these with a broad brush. And as Greg points out, there is alot of overlap. In my time, I have sung shanties at a Whydah exhibit, played a historical part in a street festival, and toted guns in a reenactment. With that, I will say this. I believe things have changed in recent years. More and more historical sites are looking for quality reenactors, and coming to the realization that not everyone who claims to be a pirate reenactor has anything to do with history. Thus, I suppose one could say there are pirate actors, pirate reenactors, and pirate entertainers. Though I don't like that last label (nor any label for that matter), because hopefully the public finds all of us entertaining! Because the bottom line is, at the end of the day, doing whatever we do, we need to make the people who own the site happy so we are asked to come back another day. -
Piratical idea #267... get yourself an hourglass!!! :) Someone here used to have a clock that chimed the hours in bells. That was pretty freakin' cool. So today, I was short on time, so instead of keeping to 25 minutes, I did 20 again, but now I've thrown two 10 pound weights on the machine. That felt good.

Yes, I know the feeling. How many times have you heard me say something along those lines... Advice. Take some time off. A week. A month. Before long, you'll find that you miss this whole adventure. I hope. This much I know. If you take time off, you will be missed. Greatly. You are a boon to our... culture. And many's the time a post of yours has given me cause to think!

^ when I think of one, I'll edit this line! < Surprised at the Pyrate Feast by the appearance of one Ed Foxe from England. So there we were... and in walk's Kass and retinue... and there in the back is a familiar face... my word! Foxe! I was totally floored. It was like... the best surprise I had in a year full of unpleasantries... and I do believe I said to him... "You sir have the worst bloody English accent I've ever heard." "I know you from som... wait... OH MY GOD!" V Coffee, tea or cocoa?

The more the merrier!!!! Welcome! So, yesterday I semi-skipped a day. I couldn't ride the machine due to reenacting gear being strewn all over the place. Instead, this cold, fluffy white stuff fell from the sky, so I spent an hour outdoors running around in it with the family! Now that is exercise! Today... 25! Wooo! And tomorrow, I may throw on some extra weights! More success stories???
-
^ of course, who doesn't < still can't believe I met Foxe, they completely fooled me, those blaggarts! V if you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be

is it... Wellfleet... eh... Cape Cod, where Marconi set up his radio tower. there's this great old lighthouse there... but hey, anything in Cape Cod... the place is so amazing...

The Rio Grande Press' edition of Exquemeling, Part IV, Basil Ringrose's account of the Buccaneers, page 388, heading "A Spanish Stratagem." Hope that helps. My apologies for not including the info with my initial post.

Thanks for the dates. I'll put it on my groups calendar. I suspect we'll be called in to provide supporting fire as we have in years past.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN case you missed that the first time... NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's very impressive, and my hat's off to you sir!

Did my time! And, as much as I'd love to stay and chat... I've got to get ready for The Pyrate Feast! And... Wooohooo... my clothes seem to fit better than they did two months ago when I last wore them!!!
-
And here's another favorite. My kids... from Halloween camping the year before last...

Random photo... me... about 10 minutes ago... getting psyched for the Pyrate Feast tomorrow night!

I'm sticking with "no." And this from a guy who owns a really nice, long, rifleman's knife. Experiment is going nicely!!! Another thread??? maybe... I'm getting ready for tomorrow night... have 99% of my stuff on right now... will probably have pics to post by Monday. Back to the knife... I don't know of any clipped point knives dating to our era. I will spend some time digging around though.
-
Dang. If this experiment fails... I'll have to start all over again from the beginning!
-
Wow. Such great photos! Love those clouds! And kids always make such great subjects! But that spacecraft from a space station photo... that is supreme!
-
I personally though it was rather... poorly executed. And now, I'm back to some serious myhtbusting of my own, concerning cocoa powder and rum!
-
Thank you sir, you are too kind. Yrs&c, Blackjohn (who is at present conducting very serious experiments with cocoa powder and 2 gills of rum!)
-
I don't suppose I could just say "no" and we'd leave it at that?

There's actually a good amount of data on certain types of Roman ships. They've found, as I recall, a few complete river transports. Speaking of... galleys see use in the Mediterranean very late, probably straight through til the end of the Age of Sail.

I think I've noticed it is easier for me to ride the exercise machine while watching something WITH the subtitles on. Reading the subtitles must keep my eyes from wandering to the clock or something??? Keep up the good work folks!
