We had quite a long discussion about striped stockings on my pirate mail list. The verdict was, as I recall - no, they are not accurate. There's not really much evidence to support their use/existence during the "Golden Age of Piracy." Also, fwiw, the mass produced re-enactor stockings available today are constructed differently than those of the 300 years ago. I'd tell you more, but I'm just a simple pirate... with a friend who is really keen on period stockings.

Here's some recent news on the QAR.

I recall reading somewhere that the last time a cutlass was used in action by a member of the USN was during the Korean War when a group of Seabees were over-run... Moving back to the topic at hand... definately take that edge off!!!

Many's the night I dreamt of cheese, toasted, this here frigate to carry me from Treasure Island. :) That's a fine ship, and very good for the period we are interested in. And you can find her, and many others appropriate and not so appropriate here.

I'm with ya on this one Hawkins. Finding a decent cutlass isn't easy. Even this particular sword, while nice, is really closer to a much later (1770s I believe) style.
