  1. Ifn you arewantin to see some fancy knot work you should contact bosun Carl and have him put up some pics. He did a harbormasters telescope for me and it is incredable. I would post pics but I still don't know how

  2. Sir while I can agree about a loose fitting bal, I never use one. All of the round ball I shoot bare ball are as close to bore size as possable. Also military stye would have favored the paper cartride for most od the golden age and so would not have been loose.. After the first feww shots in mu experience you have to dropp the paper to get the ball down the muzzle. What I think was the reason for the problem is that soldiers were not to aim at a person but at a massed group.

  3. as has already been mentioned the weaver stasnce classic two hand didn't show up until the 20th century so this is a settled question. The important question is where al this nonsense about the inaccuracy of muzzleloading firearms comes from. I have been shooting black powder for nigh on 31 years and muskets and pistols in the hands of people who practice is legendasry. I used a brown bess ( supposedly inaccurate and hit a 12 inch gong 2 out of three times at 150 yards. and I was only fair at shooting. My Brother in law with a 50 cal. flint pistol hit squirrel targets at better then 50 yards shooting one handed and standing unrested. Also one of the favored losds on pistols and smoothbore was shot, and buck and ball. Any gun is only as good as the man on the end and he or she is only as good as their practice makes them. Sorry about the rant but we have finally hit my pet peeve.. thanks

  4. Wes If you still have the pistol available I have a nice Jack Hubbard scalping knife I will trade. 13 1/2 inches overall 9 inch blade. I live near the airpot in st. louis and could meet you so no shipping. If you need pics send me email address and I will send them don't know how to post pics on the pub.. Has a nice leathe belt sheath. let me know thanks

  5. OK hope this is the rifht forum for this. I was thinking about adding a binnacle compass to my navigation display but I don't know what they look like. I have found some late in the 18th century but no nreal early ones need help thanks

  6. the pics from colonial spanish arms shows a wall gun and the type of yoke they used. As to loading I have an 88 cal wheel lock that I have used for a swivel and a good charge in it is between 150 and 200 grains. Just a warning I made more noise than a six pounder when fired. I just treated it like you would a wshoulder gue but with a rest. I use paper cartridges but just dump the powder and use the paper for wadding.

  7. Hey on your Spanish blunderbuss if you Look in The book "spanish military weapons in Colonial America 1700-1821" there are a couple of pics of original blunderbusses from the Ripoll arsenal. If you can't find the book Let me know and I will try to scan the pages for yo Rusty Spike

  8. I have not posted of the pub because I am new to the pub but not to re-enacting. That I have been doing for nye on 30 years and I must warn you that If you intend to make your shelter yourself you shouls consider that all of the canvas you and the others have mentioned will leak in a hard rain. Having raised two girls in historic re-enacting I can tell you the fastest way to discourage their participation is to have them soaking wet. If you are going to use canvas treat it with a water proofer and a good one. Even then know that if you touch the canvas during a rain storm it will drip on you. Others may have other opinions but I have tried all of the things you can try and they just about all have drawbacks. Tentsmiths makes a trail tarp the is treated with the same stuff as the drovers coats and it won't leak in the worst stor even if you touch it. It also rolls up to the size of about 12" by 6" and weighs about 5 or 6 pounds. I have used the one that I have for going on 10 years and it still turns water and sleeps great. Also to have room for a little swab until teen I suggest the 10 X 10 . They are not cheap but cheap gets you uncomforable Hope this helps
