  1. It seems that all of us are trying to get two tons of fertilizer in a one ton truck. I have a roof rack on my Chevy HHR for all of the poles. Containers are convenient for keeping stuff together, but can be counter-productive. Cars are irregularly shaped on their insides, so containers tend to leave a lot of "free space" around them. If you have a trailer with vertical sides, this is not a problem. I pack all of the containers in the center of my vehicle, and fill in the voids with loose "conformable" things (tent, ground cover, ropes, etc). You can also use these things to fill any voids in the containers. And don't forget the Navy's tradition: roll your clothes, don't fold, they take up less room. In fact, roll all of your material items. I have tried vacuum sealed bags, maybe someone has had better luck with them than I have.

  2. I'm still very on the fence about coming (and the decision isn't completely mine to make)... But if I am able to make it, I will be flying. While I can book a hotel, I would rather keep it on the cheap. If I pack a bed-roll and am able to attend as a more "campaigner style" re-enactor.

Failing that, anyone have some extra space in their tent?

If you don't mind being out of your "time period", you may encamp with the" Wreckers" of a later date.

(Not to mention more modern conveniences too.)

  3. Welcome aboard Mate. I've heard of some pirate names that have struck fear when heard...

but none so scary as a woman named P.M.S. (Vixen).

Now I'll just go hide in the corner, drink my rum, and try not to rile the beast.

  4. Yes

I received my book today, "The Florida Keys - Volume 3, The Wreckers", by John Viele. In it he states, "For amusement and relief from the heat, they would put a sail in the water suspended so as to form a pool and bathe in it". I suppose this would have also worked in earlier times too.

i had forgotten about that, glad you kicked it in. did they say if it was to keep out sharks, jellyfish or so the non swimmers wouldn't drown?
