  1. Started on a new pair of breeches as I figured I needed something a little nicer for the Ball. Now I'm not sure if I will make the Ball, but i can always use these. They are french fly with pewter buttons, pockets. BTW... breeches are way more difficult than a shirt or vest (or even slops for that matter). This is the second pair I've made, the first pair nefariously disappeared (I won't mention names but she knows who she is). They are basically done. just doing button holes now. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/KuuWimi6A2xLGcEOxYYi39MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink mP

  9. Yes, there needs to be some balance. I think last year conditions were similar to a perfect storm keeping the small arms out. Due to the overzealous black powder rules, those that didn't meet the req'ts (due to the difficulty of applying flashguards to arms available for that era) had no choice but to sit or find a slot on a cannon or the ships. If it weren't for the new option to sail last year, there would have been many more sitting out. Also the appeal to sail as a new option drew others with small arms that did meet req'ts. That, combined with the large number of cannons and crew required, leaves few pirates on the field. although it is good there were so many cannons, as there would have been more sitting out. Not sure what the solution will be, given the current black powder rules. Possibly limit the numbers on the ships, cannons or both... or reserve those slots for folks who can't meet the black powder req'ts. Or, maybe its best to just accept that there it is a duel between ship and shore with artillery from the fort and small arms from the ships. As I fly in, Its difficult to bring clothes, gear, sleeping arrangements and a small arm, so am lucky to be able to borrow one. I have little interest in working the cannons as I do that in Civil war events the rest of the year and am looking to do something different, In all likelyhood i could be sitting out this year also. mP

It has functional pockets on the outside. subject to prior sales as I will take it to events I am attending. 18. Welcome! We celebrated Talk like a Pirate Day at work one year, and in my googling around ran across this site and got totally hooked. After absorbing much of this site, I made my first event at FTPI in Key West (Pirates in Paradise at the time). T I can only say you will make lifetime friends, learn a lot and have a ball. The people in our crew are friendly, instructive and welcoming. Don't be shy. Keep reading the various threads here, especially the clothing threads as you will need some kind of kit. We're planning on a presence at Utah pirate festival this year in Sept if that is closer for you. We have several Mercury members going to support that. I have another friend in Denver who would do pirates if something was to come together for an event in Colorado. Hook up with William, he has drawings of the Ship Mercury and others in exquisite detail if you are interested in ships! mP
